1. Apples, grown in Syria, consumed in Syria
Iyad ,   Dundee , Scotland   (03.29.10)
As they soak in the Syrian Golan water, absorb the Syrian Sunshine, Bathe in the Syrian soil... Many UN resolutions state the very obvious: The Golan is illegally occupied by Israel. I know you right wingers thing that its yours. That is besides the point. We live in todays world of resolutions.. The UN has plenty about Israel that are yet to be implemented... do not say they are binding( you cry wolf and resolution 1701 when its Israel's Ouch! time) The Golan is Syrian by international decree/laws (whether you dug up the entire Golan and found a few Jewish pots and pans, or not) Syrian Apples,, grown in Syrian Golan (to be confirmed later by history) eaten by Syrians
2. #1 - Golan was never Syrian. Given away by colonial France
William ,   Israel   (03.29.10)
You can't, on one hand, decry the Balfour Declaration for giving part of Jewish historical land for a State by "colonial Britain", then accept the lines drawn to give Syria the Golan based on purely political reasons between two European powers. Your hypocrisy precedes you! Besides, the minute Syria used the Golan for war and war crimes rather than peace and apples - they lost it by law. Until this day, they still insist on retrieving it through war and using it for war (placement of tanks and military to overlook Israel and divert ALL water away from the Sea of Galilee). If any other nation considered doing the same thing - you would cry foul, but if it's against Israel, it's somehow....acceptable?
3. #1 - "Golan is Syrian by Intl decrees"
William ,   Israel   (03.29.10)
which ones, exactly? I don't recall a UN/League of Nations vote on it...ever. It was an agreement between two European powers, like the dividing up of Africa in the 19th century which we all consider today to be colonialism. A few Jewish pots or pans...and major cities...and large synagogues...dug up on the Golan speaks more to the ownership than your claim. By your logic, then too Israel is 100% legit on all land west of the Jordan River because of Intl decree. Do you agree? Somehow...I think you don't.
4. 1 # your point being?
David G   (03.29.10)
So the world sees the heights as Syrian, great, they can have it back too some day. But since it was captured in an unprovoked war, it will stay in Israeli hands until such time it can be guaranteed that the Syrian government is peaceful. Given the rhetoric, actions and nature of the current Syrian regime that is all but impossible. If things change I will let you know, in the mean time the status quo in the Golan is just fine.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.29.10)
Wrong on so many levels. The Golan was acquired by Israel in 1967 in the course of fighting a defensive war. When the Syrians came charging over the border again in 1973, Israel kicked their collective @$$eS back to Quneitra. Check international convention and statute. If the aggressor of an armed conflict loses territory, the victor need not return it. The aggressor here (twice) would be Syria, and the victor here (twice) would be Israel. Golan has been formally annexed by Israel (1982), and is now forever a part of Israel. Israel will not go back to a situation where the Golan Heights was used by the Syrians as a perch from which to fire upon kibbutzim and moshavim. No more armored tractors. All Syria's chest pounding is not going to restore the Golan to them. Talk of violence and armed conflict will not serve them in good stead, either. They cannot defeat Israel in a military engagement and no one is going to help them try. See how easy that was to understand?

Thanks for your efforts in replying...I note you are all quiet active in defending your lovely country..I too think highly of Israel as a nation of amazing capability... except where you go illegal.. This is your problem and you are responsable for it.. The world is seeing that now Even your allies the US, and us here in the UK see that...That is why the west is saying enough is enough.. occupation of the Golan is Illegal (OK so you one the war so what. Israel was not so peaceful even when it was in Arab hands as even your own Moshe Dayan admitted provoking the Syrians in the demiliterized lands in the 50's and 60's). Syria was not a saint though and neither was Israel Wake up and realise that the international will can not be ignored, wether by you or by Syria Israel has so many friends that admire her on one hand and are critical of her disregard to UN resolutions (check the UN websites: tons of them condemn Israel's illegal actions here is an example http://unispal.un.org/UNISPAL.NSF/0/26E6D541D29D970D852576B7005D555A
7. apples Israel would alow apples RIGHT ???
M. S. ,   mpls america   (03.30.10)
I realize some times the Israelis act like perfect Jack Asses who cares about some apples the real issues are whether the Jack Asses decide to return the Golen Heights to Jack Ass Syria and so I realize the Jack Asses like Obama demand it but I may only hope a miracle stops it and so if I ever get the miracle I need they the American and so British Jack Asses who blockcaded Palisteine and so killed six 6 million of my own race and so people in W W II both may pay dearly for it that is the real issue not some apples RIGHT ??? Thank You... M. S.

What about Antakya in Turkey ? Do you still hope recovering it? So it will be for Golan . Syrian water..syrian air..syrian teeth..You should write poems, dreamer...
9. #6 - Still waiting for the "Intl decrees" that Golan is Syri
William ,   Israel   (03.30.10)
Iyad - you made the claim, now back it up. When confronted with questions and other facts, you fell back to "well, gee each side is doing no good so..." That's not an argument. Neither is your one-sided claim that Israel ignores resolutions. Guess what - they have a right to since the other side (Arabs) rejected them out-right from the start. Resolutions are made for both sides, not Israel only. I will point you to the very first resolution UNR194 which states that Arabs MUST end all aggression against Israel. I'm sure you know the answer...but we're still waiting for their acceptance, then we'll talk about the newer resolutions.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.30.10)
Moshe Dayan, z.l., never admitted anything of the sort that you claim. Between 1948 and 1967, the Syrians used the vantage point of the Golan Heights to shell Israeli settlements in the valley below. That was the provocation. The Syrians are rather an inept bunch, good at destabilization and not much else. You need look no further than Lebanon to figure that out. Moreover -- you are spouting really nonsensical things on the subject of international law. You can get away with that on the BBC and on Al Jazeera, but not here. You should not even try.
11. Check out all the UN resolutions..
Iyad ,   Dundee, Scotland   (03.31.10)
..on the relevant websites..can not quote them here they are too numerous...William read them...Israel's actions have constantly been condemded.. Israel despite its achievements is acting with absolute arrogance...the same mistake that once great nations made and later fell.. to Sarah B the BBC is a great institution that speaks its mind with clarity and neutrality...A thing that Israelis see as pro arab because they speak the obvious and Arabs see as pro israeli too...(thats what makes the BBC a brand not to mess with)..It makes us Brits proud. However..That is why that everyone in the world follows the big name for trustworthy and unbiased news ...BBC a household name not a mouthpiece for right wingers (Respect for Ynet News that allows some opposing views to be broadcast by the way) In the End: The UK helped create Israel as a historical correction of what it saw as an major injustice. But it was created at the expense of the local Arab population..Another Diaspora...another Calamity. and the cycle goes on...The Golan is no exception The Golan is Syrian...by international law and decree.. END OF LINE OF DISCUSSION

Iyad ,   Dundee, Scotland   (03.31.10)
Antakya and the Alexandretta Sanjaq or Hatay district is Turkish by international law: it is not considered by the UN as occupied territory unlike the Golan...no league/UN resolutions condemed Turkey for their actions in 1938 when they took over Iskenderun...However Syria has never recognised this annexation though. ..While Syria and the rest of the worls have never recognised the illegal annexation of the Golan by Israel.. That is the difference Know your history
13. Golan is Syrian!
Kate ,   London   (05.14.11)
Israelis took it just like they're taking over the world through the US as a cover. Kate, London UK
