Pass a law that makes it mandatory for all citizen to serve and in the same breath pass anti descrimination law to make it illigal in Israel to descriminate based on race or religion

When you are serving in the IDF you are not invading other countries, you are serving to protect yourself, your family, your neighbors, and your land. One would think from these Hareidim that if the Nazis were invading Poland in 1939 and they knew in retrospect that the Nazis would throw them in concentration camps, that the Hareidim would accept their fate because "God told them not to fight" and not serve in fighting against the Nazis! Serving is self-defense. Self-defense is Pikuach Nefesh and permitted by halacha. If you are a pacifist, then do National Service outside of the IDF. You think secular high schoolers know any more how to hold a gun than yeshiva students before basic training?! If the IDF tells you to invade (Gaza, Lebanon, etc.) then refuse orders on the basis of morality if you so believe. But DON'T condemn the draft!

I served in IDF over 30 years ago ,but still have a knowledge that surpass many at so called "professional army".

During the Yom Kipur War I lived in Israel and went to visit my inlaws in Bnei Brack. I was atonished to see the population behaving like the war was nothing to do with them. Every balcony was iluminated and people were singing and eating on that Motzei Shabath as any other day , while thousands of our soldiers were fighting and bleeding for Eretz Israel! At that moment I felt ashamed to be a Jew !

Until this imbalance is redressed this issue will never go away. It is wrong that some parents children have to serve three years and others, just as capable , don't.
