2. My version of religion is better than yours, so there!
Robert ,   Brisbane, Australia   (04.03.10)
#1 You really are as nasty a piece of work as roman catholic fanatics. Both yours and their versions of religious adherents are riddled with pederasts and are as reprehensible as each other.
3. I am offended by this Priest's statement, first as a human
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.03.10)
being and then as a proud Jew!!!!!!!!!!! I have not taken part in the debate about the sexual offends carried out by priests in North America, Europe and beyond against children for many decades. These offends have been proven and they are both illegal and unethical in the extreme. Jews who have been attacked by anti-Semites, discriminated, expelled in mass, mass murdered in the hundreds and in the thousands and in the millions have not committed any offends but their being Jewish, members of a different people with its own religious beliefs and practices. It is offensive and disgusting for a priest whose Church has been in the forefront of anti-Semitism for centuries to now equate his colleagues - some of whom still preach anti-Semitism - to attempt to find cover behind his Jewish victims instead of standing tall and stating to the world: We have sinned and we must be punished for it.
4. How Dare They
Ken ,   Australia   (04.03.10)
These catho;ic church people are insane, how dare they bring jews into this madness. They are completly mad, now makeing a wide range of comparisons , which are inexcusable. For 1: jews have nothing to do with this situation and for 2: Its catholic church people who are into this up to there necks. If the pope is covering up pedophilia then let it be known. If so, this church is a total disgrace to humanity, like any other pyramid association , but this one acts as a front for G-d to the eyes of there followers, 1 billion I beleive , but in actuall fact they are an A-Front for molesterers instead, how convenient , trust in us is there motto , give us your donations but the flip side to this coin is all of our top people are sick individuals who perpetuate the most of all heinous crimes in life - Pedophilia, thus really a criminal organization who blatantly lies directly to the facers of the masses.
5. Cantalamessa's remarks
Spencer ,   Israel   (04.03.10)
I don't condemn the Catholic church for the existance of pedophiles in their clergy but I do condemn the remarks of Cantalamessa. Fortunately the Holy See and some of the heirarchy in the Vatican have distanced themselves from his remarks. Let's now see if they punish the offender appropriately. If they do this will prove that their distancing was genuine.
6. P.S. to my previous post:
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.03.10)
Wouldn't it be more honorable to "step to the plate", or to the public "confession box" and admit, ask for forgiveness of the thousands of children - now adults - molested and raped and move on with it? But the Catholic Church continues to hide behind its own victims: Jews, children, non-Catholic Christians, etc. Is this the Church that its leaders want to world to respect...?? Is this the institution that preaches morality and respect towards fellow man - and child - yet refuses to admit to its own sins and repent for them publicly and ask its victims - not of a supernatural being - for forgiveness...??
7. In a word....
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.03.10)

8. "Christ" is not a name

9. TO CANTALAMESSA :
MALAKH HA MAVET ,   SAFED ISRAEL   (04.03.10)
Sir, just keep trying to justify the unjustifiable.
10. NO, but the twisted comparison is definitely anti-Semitic
Global Citizen ,   Israel & USA   (04.03.10)
Remind us again what the Jews did that is on par with molestation?
11. To live in shame....
Mikael ,   Europe   (04.03.10)
I am in accord with the Jewish critique of the Vatican. But Israel is also accountable for discrimination, collective violence against stateless Muslims in their vicinity. The Jews are in a repetition of the horror of their own history. That is also shameful and the people in Israel are compliant in this crime. One crime that will go to history is the Gaza massacre as the Sabra and Shatila massacre in its time. This is crimes against humanity that you have to live in shame with.
12. The Vatican statement is disgusting but look at our lot!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (04.03.10)
The world is in an uproar about the way the Catholic Church covered up the scandal. We have seen the same thing happen here in is Israel over the years and some of our Rabbis have done exactly the same thing! We all know, although some don't want to admitt it, that similar abuse happens here in Israel and the Rabbinate and Haredi "Spiritual Leaders" do exactly what the Catholic Church and Popes, present and past, have done!
13. Indeed, #12
Cameron ,   USA   (04.03.10)
If the Church isn't smelling too good, then neither do a fair no. of Rabbis as well. Everyone has some real accounting & apologizing to do, it would seem. Let all be judged.
14. Waiting for the people on ynet who defended...
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.03.10)
... the Pope for his antigay stance to come out from under their rocks and defend him now. By the way, I don't see these rapists as homosexuals. They were just attacking the nearest child they had free access to who was usually, but not always, male.

sabra and shatila massacre WAS NOT DONE BY ISRAELIS. IT WAS DONE BY MUSLIM LEBANESE ARMY AGAINST THE PALESTINIANS IN THE REFUGEE CAMP IN SABRA AND SHATILA. NOT A SINGLE ISRAELI SOLDIER TOOK PART IN A SINGLE SLAYING OF ANY OF THE ARABS THERE. IT WAS AQLL DONE BY THE LEBANESE WHO WANTED TO TAKE REVENGE ON THE PALESTINIANS IN SABRA AND SHATILA BECAUSE OF THEIR TERROR. THE LEBANESE MILITARY, THE FALANGIST MILITARY SLAUGHTERED ALL THE PALESTINIANS IN THAT REFUGEE CAMP. EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!! israel never lifted a finger to slaughter any of the palestinians there. you are a liar. go read a book to know what happened there. not a single idf ever killed a single palestinian in sabra and shatila. it was done by the lebanese mikitary the falangists. also, if you are so concerned about genocide and killing of palestinians, how would you explain that: hafez assad from syria killed 20,000 palestinians in camps in syria in HAMA. he slaughtered them in 20 hours because they rebeled against him. now, this is jenocide that israel was not part of. it was done by syria's regime. also, how would you explain the genocide of black september, where king abdullas of jordan slaughtered the 30,000 palestinians who supported arafat, killing all of them and throwing out the rest. israel was not involved there either. why concentrate on israel when arabs cfommitt hundreds more genocide on its own people every day. do you remember saudi arabia kicking out 40,000 palestinians living vthere because htey supported sadam hussein???? this is also called genocide of the living because they were dispossesed and thrown out just like the million of jews from arab lands were dispossesed by arab regimes upon the birth of israel. my friend, you have much to learn. you idiocies and lies as well as complete ignorance of the subject shows loud and clear. go back and read some history and educate yourself. you sound like an illiterate. hameed aboughaze, iranian
16. @12
(04.03.10)
there might be some incidences in israel of abuse by religious people. however, it has never been on that huge scale as in the catholic church. and in israel, the court persecutes and doesn't let the abusive individual to go from one synagogue to the other and to continue abusing. they punish and take the individual away. unlike the chirch that has covered thousands of these cases over the years and only protected their name and rfeputation. you can't compare here at all.
17. hameed why pretend that israel is always blamless?
(04.03.10)
you neglect to mention that the idf was the occupying force on the ground and ALLOWED the lebanese forces militia to enter two of these refugee camps, sabra and shatila. over the course of two days the idf did not lift a finger to stop the massacre that happened under their very noses. you also left out the fact that the kahan commission (1983) found that israel bore "INDIRECT RESPONSIBILITY" for the massacres and sharon was sacked from his army post. HAMEED WHY DO YOU ALWAYS TRY AND WHITEWASH ALL CRIMES COMMITTED BY ISRAEL? malcomb spinterling, jr. manchester, england
18. Oh I think I should & will judge both camps under...........
Cameron ,   USA   (04.03.10)
the same harsh light, #16. Both have a no. of religious figures engaging in exactly the same kind of creepy behavior. Be it priest or rabbi, neither are excused nor overlooked for their bad deeds. Both houses must always keep cleaning their mutual dirt away when it appears.
19. Why does anti-semitism always equal Holocaust?
Kevin ,   United States   (04.03.10)
I don't see why people have such a problem with his statements, the correlation seems fair if you think about how these sexual abuse allegations have caused the catholic church to be vilified as a whole. The same can be said for anti-semitism, the whole organ harvest allegation on the Gaza Strip, how individual immoral actions of someone such as Dr Yehuda Hiss, whose action the government tried to hide caused the Jewish state as a whole to be cast in a bad light. No one would make light of the Holocaust on a public forum who cares about their credibility and anyone who would think such a thing has a skewed sense of reality.
