1. Hareidi vs Torah Observant
Andy Kutnofsky ,   Jerusalem Israel   (04.03.10)
If these were not shovavim (disenchanted hareidi youths), or perhaps even if there were, then it shows the terrible result of creating a culture of 'hareidism' as opposed to those who fear G-d and keep his Torah. The biggest danger facing religious Jewry is identifying with a culture i.e. black hats, and outward appearances of being 'frum' - instead of what the nation of Israel stands for - which is being a holy and G-d fearing nation. Anyone who could do something like destroying a plaque to victims of terror, lacks any feeling or closeness to G-d
2. make an example of them to show haredi are treated equally
JEWBIE ,   ATL,USA   (04.03.10)
arrest and convict and sentence to appropriately punish and show the world that Israeli justice doesn't play favorites with the Ultras/extremophiles/heredi.
3. The product of bad parenting and lack of decency
dave ,   uk   (04.03.10)
4. Shovavim?
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (04.03.10)
Is that what the Haredim call criminal youth in their community? Shovav in Hebrew means playful, or at worse, playfully disobedient. Like Dennis the Menace. Seculars would call kids like this punks, or JDs.
5. Idiotic Charedi Smeer
Yonason Herschlag   (04.03.10)
Only an idiot would believe the anti-charedi press, that charedim were actually involved in this crime. But YNET knows that people's hatred of charedim will blind them of the obvious, so they have no problem selling this lunacy.
6. so very sad lacking in respect for memory of dead people and
(04.03.10)
yet these are the same people who want us to spend millions of shekels to move an emergency room at Barzali Hospital because of a few Canaanite graves. A true shame!
7. Yonason ! Denial is not a river in Egypt !
Yisrael ,   Jerusalem, ISRAEL   (04.04.10)
Wake up and smell the coffee ! People who deny that Hashem protects the State of Israel and that the State is part of Hashem's plan for the Redemption of the Jewish people are capable of anything !
8. Monument
abenzev ,   Jerusalem   (04.04.10)
I don't understand. . . I went by the monument a few weeks ago and it was removed and thrown down into the parking lot below. I was surprised as it has been on the sidewalk for all the years I have been here. . . Strange that they claim they threw it down only now. And what about all the other monuments that have disappeared? For example, the one in front of the Clal building for the 14 bus bombing that I was standing next to with my daughter and grandson.
9. #4 They call them Shebabnikim.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (04.04.10)
Andy likely overheard the term once, and didn't remember it correctly, that's all. Shebabnikim, or "Disconnected Haredi Youth" as the more politically-correct term goes, are street gangs of ultra-Orthodox youth that either abandoned their community, or had their community give up on them altogether. They're usually Yeshiva drop-outs who went from one establishment to another, until eventually they either left, or none would take them in anymore. Shebabnik is a term taken from Arabic - Shebab being "Youth". They also tend to be called Pirchachim, Mekulkalim, and Sheketz (or Shaygetz, as the Yiddish accent tends to make it). Not tender nicknames, to say the least.
10. Yonason Herschlag - Sentence them to 3 years in the army
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.04.10)
And not just working in a kitchen - send them into frontline combat positions where they have to get dirty and do their job, or get sent to the brig. Yonason Herschlag reminds me of the charedim who defend haredi child rapists by saying what upstanding men of the community they are. Face the truth Yonason Herschlag, haredim are like the rest of us... they steal, rape, vandalize (big time past time, by they way, just ask the Jerusalem City engineering department what the annual damage bill is from their riots), they deal drugs, and they shirk their army duty. These 5 should be charged, tried, and if found guilty sentenced to 3 years at hard labour in the IDF.
11. These are NOT Torah observant Jews
HaDaR   (04.04.10)
but some other kind of cult...another type of "reform", with penguin uniforms... Were they truly Torah observant, they'd know that it is forbidden to destroy things (bal tashchit). Shame on them and their bad teachers!
12. Not Haredim - Dropouts
Aryeh ,   NY USA   (04.04.10)
Whilst these dropouts sometimes still wear Haredi outfits, they are non religious youth with Haredi parents. They are neither Haredi nor Hiloni, but bunches of deliquents with no direction and no where to go. The Haredi establishment tries to offer them services but is usually frustrated by their lack of ANY direction or desire to be productive members of ANY society.
13. Destruction of the Memorial
Yochanan ,   P.R./Yasur,US/Il.   (04.04.10)
Just another example of black hats acting up.As Israel becomes more of a Haredistan.
14. It's not that bad.
Michael ,   Galut   (04.04.10)
A few stupid youths disrespecting a memorial is really not that bad in comparison to a whole society refusing to work and thereby collecting money from the rest of the hard-working populace.
15. Stop and think
Loyal Jew ,   Efrat   (04.04.10)
Those unfortunate people were riding on a mixed bus, with men committing indecencies and women putting up with it. Then after the terrible outcome, the seculars build a pesel (statue) in their honor. What these kids may have done seems out of place, but it should be a wake-up call for everyone.
16. #10
Lorry ,   Northern Israel   (04.04.10)
They are not good eough for the IDF 5 years of hard labour but NOT THE IDF
17. #14 if this happened in Galut it would be a hate crime &
(04.04.10)
everyone's knickers would be in a mighty twist racing to the news media to condemn it! So what makes this different?
18. andarta
nosson tzvi ,   YERUSHALAYIM   (04.04.10)
Japan deals with anti-social acts with public shame and very heavy fines. When teenagers at real risk leave the home, parents should be required to notify the social services and/or the police .
19. What kind of punishment is house arrest?
