1. Communists desperate - lost their red diaper doper babies
Rami   (04.05.10)
The youth doesn't follow their Communist/socialist/looney leftie/false peace/Oslo/Stockholm syndrome parents. Thank G_d! The wrinkly socialists will be unhappy about it till the day they draw their last leftist looney breath - well so be it.
2. Good News - Right.
Shajan ,   India.   (04.05.10)
Indeed it is good news to note that 61% would vote for the Right. I would also wish that this numbers go up and wish to see the Third Temple built on the Temple Mount very soon. Love Israel.
3. "one-sided approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict"
Z Lando ,   Tekoa, Israel   (04.05.10)
Wow! This "professor" thinks we are supposed to be neutral while Arabs/Muslims want to destroy us. I think Sagy has given a new meaning to the brand: "intellectually challenged". Who was it who said that some things are so simple that anyone who isn't an intellectual can understand it?
4. To prevent a schism between Jews in Israel and the US - also
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.05.10)
discussed in today Yediot Ahronot (Ynet) I strongly suggest that the American Jewish leadership found a way to send high school graduates, men and women, to Israel - after proper preparation at school, community, youth movement and home - and have them participate in the defense of the only nation-state of the Jewish people. No doubt, once they experience what our youth have, they too will develop love for this Land of Eretz Israel and will learn to appreciate the reality in which we have been living, something that is difficult and actually impossible to experience by being totally consumed by the "values" of materialistic and status seeking society of America. Have them come here, learn the language of the Jewish people, Hebrew. Have them appreciate the Land of our forefathers, the history of our people and the realization that we must, with our own hands, defend and build this collective home of ours if we wish to have one all together.
5. "Israeli-Palestinian conflict"? Not so! This is certainly a
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (04.05.10)
conflict, but it is first and foremost a conflict between the Jewish people which has set out to proclaim by right its nation-state, Israel, vs. the Muslim-Arab world - not Christian-Arabs, not Druze-Arabs - which would not allow a non-Muslim and non-Arab people to have its own sovereign nation-state on ANY parcel of land in the region. 1948 - a coalition of Muslim-Arab countries, backed up by the Arab League, attacked Israel and created the "refugee" problem. 1967 - a coalition of Muslim-Arab countries, backed up by the Arab League, initiated a war whose goal was to accomplish that which they couldn't have 19 years earlier: the annihilation of Israel. In the process they created the "occupation", "settlements", "Gaza", etc. 1973 - Once again, a coalition of Muslim-Arab countries attacked Israel to recover land and pride by eliminating once and for all Israel and couldn't. The local Muslim-Arab community, "Palestinians", played only minor roles, if at all, in all these conflicts. It is time academics adhered to proper description of reality and not be swept by popular slogans which are hollow of content.
6. excellent article ynet

7. true, this is what we have left
Eshkol Hakofer   (04.05.10)
brainless, heartless, chauvinist bigots!
8. The problem isn't our youth. It's "professors" like Sagy.
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.05.10)
Professor Sagy moans the fact that most Israeli youth are patriotic and supportive of Israel rather than our deadly "Palestinian" foes. The problem is not Israeli youth. The problem is that "professors" like Sagy should not be educating our youth. Nor should Israeli taxpayers be burdened supporting them to inculcate our youth with their sick, destructive values.
9. This is a good trend.
Steve   (04.05.10)
How do we reconcile these two opinions? "Professor Shifra Sagy says, the Israeli youth does not see the other side, and holds extreme views," etc. Professor Oz Almog: "The difference between the Israeli youth and its western counterpart, with regards to the military and patriotism, stems from the fact that HERE we are faced with a war of survival... The youth looks at the leadership in the Arab world and sees no moderation. It sees the incitement, and opposes it." This extremist trend on the part of Israel's enemies - 'the other side' - will only worsen as the months and years progress. US youth, by and large, elected America's first Black (Muslim-born) president, a thing many commend as inclusive and pluralistic. Yet this Black president is an extremist in his own "Wright." Here we have a world leader that has profound issues with Israel's Jews. America is gradually turning in this anti-Israel / pro-Muslim direction. We need strong youth in Israel who, as Professor Almog observed, is skeptical of the pretensions of Israel's purported "friends."
10. Defense of thy own countery. How much more sociial one can
leo ,   usa   (04.05.10)
get? US and European youth does not have to face 400,000,000 Arabs hell bent on their destruction. First thing first.
11. Ultra-nationalism
Ilene ,   Washington, USA   (04.05.10)
Is a sign of a sick society and doesn't bode well for that society's future prospects of getting along in the world.
12. Orwellian professors
G.S. ,   U SA   (04.05.10)
These brain dead professors are complaining because Israeli youth are patriotic? Why do leftists who pretend to care about society always end up in universities where they try to indoctrinate young people with their Marxist garbage? It’s the same in the U.S. They should get a job where they really do some good, like sweeping the streets.
13. This article gives me hope.
MiamiGuy ,   Miami   (04.05.10)
14. hardly surprising...
yitzhak goldstein ,   tel aviv   (04.05.10)
This isn't surprising. For years, Israeli youth has seen their government bend over backwards, making concessions and giving in to more and more of the Arabs' demands. But it's never enough. They want more and more, and more. They will not give up until Israel is eradicated, and the young people in Israel (may G-d bless them) are finally seeing this. I'm not at all surprised that they're starting to say 'enough!'.
15. Brain wash leads to fanatism and to blodshed

Dan ,   Boston   (04.05.10)
There is nothing wrong with patriotism, though. If anything, mindless protests that have swept the US and Europe are much more disturbing, especially since most of the protesters have no idea what's going on. I see this more and more often as crowds flock to protest one issue after another as soon as it turns up, and forget about it as soon as it falls out of fashion. Perhaps Israeli youth is a little too hostile to Arabs, but I think the army is more likely to fix that rather than the reverse. Confronted with military duty any idea of one's own superiority vanish, and they do teach some respect for civilians. It's not perfect, true, and they should educate the youth in the army to respect the enemy a little more. But even the leftist Israeli's I met all think that the army experience made them better human beings. Which is why I think professors who never went to the army are completely misguided and don't understand what they are talking about. It might seem scary to them that the youth is not thinking of their Arab neighbors, but Israel is not more racist than any other country, it's just that the people are more blunt there. As the Arab sector in Israel improves (and I hope it does), I suspect there will be less racism. The key is not to make the majority less patriotic, but rather the minorities more so.
17. Eshkol Hakofer @ 7, what is the base for your conclusion?
leo ,   usa   (04.05.10)
18. Ilene @ 11, Israel almost self-destruct while trying to
leo ,   usa   (04.05.10)
follow so called "Oslo peace" path. And what is wrong in loving one's country? Must you be so extreme in your views?
19. clearly these profs haven't meet any kids in Mechinot
(04.05.10)
somehow they missed a whole segment of the population that does volunteer work etc. And they completey forgot about the thousands of kids who do National Service instead of going to the army. In other words Y net found intellectuals as shallow as their reporting in order to put together a silly article
20. "social issues" means what exactly?
free marketeer ,   Modiin / socal   (04.06.10)
This complaint about a lack of concern for so called "social issues" is totally bogus. What they really mean and want is for young people to favor statism, big government, welfare, socialism, etc. What we really need is exactly the opposite, namely more private initiative, free markets, entrepreneurship, and capitalism. That will solve all the so called "social issues" more than stupid government welfare programs that just keep the citizens in a state of dependency.
21. Patriotism & Nationalism are not Fascism
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.06.10)
Commenters #11 and #16 took exception to the use of the term patriotism respectively. The fact is that the article uses the word "patriotism" but by the implied definition the intended word is "fascism." The two are not the same. As far as Israeli youth having a "deeper political understanding," that remains debatable. While the youth swing right they seem to delude themselves that the right wing political affiliations they support are proponents of their fascist views. In a minority of the cases they are right, but extreme left wing parties such as Meretz are just as fascist in opposing "equal rights to Arabs" - they just express it by intending to rid Israel of the Arabs by giving them a separate state in which they will never receive the rights they are supposed to receive as Israeli residents and citizens. On the other side of the political spectrum, the new Likud faction Likud party's Manhigut Yehudit is gravely misunderstood. While it is perhaps the greatest proponent of civil rights and equality under democracy, most associate it with Arab expulsion. I personally stood in line with Likud voters in the primaries while youths clamored to vote for the Manhigut Yehudit lists of preferred candidates with expectation that this would "get rid of the Arabs." These erroneous stereotypes of the political right and left are perpetuated by the Israeli media, but this strongly demonstrates the vast lack of Israeli youths who have actually read and understood the political platform of any particular party or faction.
22. Ultra-nationalism
Johnny Canuck ,   Toronto, Canada   (02.25.12)
What makes this nationalism "ultra"? Say, in comparison to ultranationalist groups? Ilene, your own society is sick. Its American Jews, despite their economic, political, and social successes, are a moribund demographic. Your values are literally leading them to die out (high divorce rate, failure to meet the replacement rate, intermarriage rate, etc.). And when the world belongs to the East, to China and India, your multiculti nonsense will die off with you.
