1. Unbelievable!
emanon ,   USA   (04.09.10)
Israel, an otherwise progressive country, still has people turning back the hands of time. What's next: accusing women of practicing witchcraft?
2. I am a religious Jew. Some of us are out of their minds!!!
Chaim D. Shapira ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.09.10)
Thee is nothing more important than pikuah nefesh - the saving of one's life - and if these people don't realize it, regardless of the way in which they dress, they are removed from the essence of Judaism and instead they are part of cultism, based on which rabbi says what. They are crazy, truly crazy!
3. They are not Jewish as they care more about
S.   (04.09.10)
their own stupid values than life.
4. not unbelievable
observer   (04.09.10)
It appears the magen david adom still doesn't respect its 'clientèle'. The address was given as a synagogue and they sent a woman? But she has at least got the attention she wanted, even if only from YNet: But the man had only fainted - and she wanted to 'save' him?

This is the year 2010. Not the forsaken towns / ghettos of medieval time.
8. Dear Ruti
Sagi   (04.09.10)
It does not matter one iota whether you were dressed modestly or not. Please take consolation in the fact that you are a decent human being, in fact 1000 times better than those who acted towards you in a most despicable fashion. On a scale of one to ten, I give you 10 and they get a zero minus from me.
9. Ruti thank you for serving with MDA! U r a wonderful person!

11. Can you explain?
Mikael ,   Europe   (04.09.10)
I had no idea that the ultra orthodox Jew did have phobia against women. Can you explain?
12. They just weren't prepared to deal...
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.09.10)
...with this. It's not that they did not care for the man's life. And it's not like their doctrine demands this behavior. Just think about it: They've never had a woman enter the men's section, and whent the situation presented itself they didn't know how to react and lost the ability to rationally deal with the situation. In the end, they did put a man's life at risk. But in retrospect I'm sure they are fully aware of the grave error they made, and their rabbanim will be reminding them of this (this is the classical case of the hasid shoteh - the idiot Chassid). They will have time to reflect and perhaps the next time a woman needs to enter the men's section they will not only be ready but rush to acommodate her. Besides, it is a clear halacha that an individual woman, on a non-permanent basis is allowed in the men's section. The Mishnah allows a group of women to go in on a korban pesach together, and a representative of each lamb-collective must accompany the lamb to be slaughtered in the bet ha-mikdash in one of the three shifts. We learn from here that one woman, at the very least, is allowed in with a group of men (i.e. on the men's side of the mehitzah without it being considered mingling). Their Rebbe and their rabbanim will certainly lecture them and they will be prepared in the future. We all tend to act irrationally when we are taken off guard and emotions prevail. It is a shame it was at the risk of this man's life. But he did survive, thank God, and the severity of the circumstance will be able to open a door to learning the laws that pertain to this type of scenario. May we find that this experience leads to greater awareness of our own laws and greater tolerance and mutual respect amongst our own brethren.
13. Do it yourself!
rachel ,   Jerusalem   (04.09.10)
Well next time just dont go in at all and let them treat the person themselves! It is starting to really be scary how these fools are taking over the city!

rasjie ,   Jerusalem   (04.09.10)
To people like you there is only one answer. Take care of your own shit then. You probably dont even pay taxes in our country let alone do army service.
15. #4, Observer...
Paul ,   USA   (04.09.10)
It doesn't seem to me that the paramedics were disrespectful - the man who fainted could have been dying, for all they knew. And if I needed medical attention in an emergency, I could care less who is providing it.
16. What an example`
Hadassah ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.09.10)
Gee... I really am inspired to become more observant.... not!
17. LASHON HORROR

18. Jews aint beter than muslims
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (04.09.10)
No difference between this and what happens is saudi arabia. pease don' claim a higher moral value..
19. #4 observer
Ben ,   USA   (04.09.10)
Others are talking about Pikuach Nefesh - saving life - and you're talking about "respect"? That wouldn't happen to be similar to the respect Italian mobsters talk about when they demand "rispetto", would it? Way to go on your fences around fences.
20. there must be ways to circumvent it for Pikuach Nefesh
observer   (04.09.10)
There are some Jewish laws that may not be violated, even when a life is in danger. Entry into a building where a God other than Hashem is being worshipped. It is for this reason that one may not enter a church during services, even to save a life. Entering a church when services are not going on has lesser restrictions. If a medical emergency is known or suspected that warrants placing a phone call rather than transportation in a motor vehicle, the telephone may be used. If the situation has a lower level of urgency, the receiver shall be removed and the buttons pressed in an unusual manner!.
21. 12 Orly
Rosie   (04.09.10)
They ALWAYS act irrationally! This is what their rabbanim teach them.
22. Orly, thank you! A very human and plausible explanation!
Mikael ,   Europe   (04.09.10)
23. Next time when haredim call Magen David
Vardina   (04.09.10)
emergency service - just don't send anyone. If this is their kind of gratitude - let them die. They are only a useless burden on this country's shoulders. They hate Israel and Zionism, yet they want the country to render them services. The only difference between them and the Arabs is the fact that Haredim don't murder Israeli Jews or anyone else, and this is a great asset these days.
24. Shame
Dave ,   Bs.Aires-Argentina   (04.09.10)
As a Jew living in the Galuth, I'm astonished with this irrational behavior. As religious people, they don't know the Jewish Law of the Pikuah Nefesh ? This type of facts gives pretexts to the Anti-Jews to attack Isarel. Shame on these "Ultra" individuals ! ! They don't deserve to be named Jewish People ! !
25. hatzolah was probally there
EMT - CHOVESH ,   usa & israel   (04.09.10)
why dosent the article say that hatzolah (ems) was allready on location, i have been on many calls for charedi people and there have been women that work for MDA on location with no problem at all, but when there are EMT's on location allready and then MDA comes with another 3 EMT'S just to transport its not really needed, so maybe they wanted to keep on praying in the shul and didnt want the women to enter. Its really not so crazy. I'm sure if she was needed nobody would have said or done anything besides saying thanks.
26. Isnt it ironic..
marc cohen ,   brooklyn ny   (04.09.10)
more of the observant are the ones that are part of magen david adom, zaka, etc.. and they are the ones getting hammered by the media, don't rush to judgment, i bet there is more to this story, ynet will continue to pursue one viewpoint
27. Look at her.Lawyer, laughs like a fool and looking for glory
Al   (04.09.10)
I wouldnt believe her as far as I could throw her. I'd take her story with a huge grain of salt.
28. Arrest them. It's that simple.
Josh   (04.09.10)
Where is the rabbi on this? When a person's life is in danger even Shabbat can be violated, is that not the Halacha? Separation of man and women is not even Torah, yet once again illegally added laws violating Dev 4:2 are held to a higher level than even the life of another. Asur! Rabbis are not g-ds and not even prophets. Beyond that the impeding of ambulance, fire and police is illeagal. Find out who stopped her and arrest them today. The rabbanim need to give in to authority of ambulances, police and fire. They cannot be allowed to do this. If I were a medic on the same ambulance I would have escorted her in and defended the authority by calling police for backup.
29. Police! Arrest them. Assualt!
Josh   (04.09.10)
You can't even put your hands on emergency personell in an emergency let alone shove them. Documented assualt! Do your job politicians and police and make arrests. As already noted, people can die and might have already died because of these men being confused about the halacha and the law of Israel. These women paramedics should have weapons with rubber bullets, tasers and mace. What holy area exists that a woman can't enter? That's just a pagan concept.

Elijah ,   Haifa   (04.09.10)
The only reason why in SA they have the same problem is religious establishment. In Israel we still have secular majority. So do appreciate it. And vote for secular parties.
