Danit   (04.09.10)
2. One thing you don't want to be in your life
Rudolf   (04.09.10)
...is a woman in Muslim countries. They treat women like trash, they abuse them, they humiliate them, but the worst thing is: there's no one to help them or at least remotely voice his concern. Hypocrisy. They have no love and no respect to women and children and other people in general. Backward society, backward notions.
3. i guess according to the mentality
Barney ,   USA   (04.09.10)
there it sounds logical-your daughter asks for something which you can't afford to give her so you beat her. i guess that beats telling her to strap on this little vest that will take you to paradise. broken culture.
4. if you live in a glass house
aiman ,   jersey   (04.09.10)
I can pull a million and one stories when jewish women are treated like poop by the men in the community. ynet puts a article like this so you point your finger and feel so much better about yourself a bunch of hypicorates.

6. Women in Arab society........
Rashid ,   Chicago, IL   (04.09.10)
We are proud of our women in Arab societies, and therefore we keep them covered. Men and women mutually believe that the place for a woman is in the kitchen, or making babies. She should be cooking or taking care of the kids. The problems begin when as in your societies you award the women with too many freedoms. That is when they become feminist, etc and forget the true meaning of being a woman and staying in their place. We believe a woman should not be seen nor heard and we have no problems at all. Women actually live happily in our societies and they are fully aware of their place.......which is to serve men. The sooner you realize this you will lead a much more fulfilling life........after all every morning the observant among you pray to God and thank Him for not making you a woman........ you say, "Baruch shey lo asani l'isha."). The woman prays, thanking God for having made her according to His will ("Baruch shey asani l'fi ratzono."). Even Judaism does not hold women in high esteem...!! Your sages were smart and knew where to keep the women. Learn from them.
7. #6 Rashid - your post is disgusting.
Paula ,   Jamaica   (04.10.10)
What you have described is not pride in your women, it is repression. You men are sick. You cover up the women and yet still stare at them, so why cover them up at all. You are the problem, not the women. What place in society for women are you talking about? Arab women only have a place in the home, at the bottom of the ladder. Men like you should be kicked out of the home. If, God forbid, I ended up with a louse like you for a husband, I would kick your a** out because I am a highly qualified, successful professional woman who cannot bear the thought of a lifestyle like what you described. Arab men are the problem.
8. #6
Fawaz ,   Kuwait   (04.10.10)
If the women are happy, why pressure them? If women really feel empowered by the shariah, why then do you need to suppress their freedom? You are correct though that there is not much difference between Islam and Judaism when it comes to women's rights. After all, Islam is just another version of Judaism. Unfortunately, both of them are hindering humanity's progress.
9. The Palestinian State
Zichron   (04.10.10)
The palestian state must be transferred to bavaria with munich and nuremberg the capital They can have two al asqa mosques . The bavarian beer halls will close down and be transferred to bagdad .
10. #6 Rashid
Hal ,   USaaaaaA   (04.10.10)
There is a reason that most Arab and Muslim societies are in the sorry state they are. As long as your women are treated like cattle and given almost no say in how society funtions, you will have poor economies and brutal political regimes. It is universal that those societies with the greatest opportunities and rights for their women have better economies and more civil govts. The problem for you guys is that you really don't care as long as the Man is vastly superior in the eyes of society. Too bad for your children in the 21st century.
11. Preove it #4 with 10 identical Jewish stories
Michael Hess aka BS ,   Charlotte, NC   (04.10.10)
you have no clue about Jewish life, all you know is that this article is 100% true representing only 1% of what women endure in Arab society but your Jihadi knee jerk instinct kicks in right away to attack the messenger.
12. This story doesn't even begin to describe cruel Arab society
Michael Hess aka BS ,   Charlotte, NC   (04.10.10)
The Arab Middle East is the world's first entirely parasitic culture because it imitates poorly, consumes voraciously, spits hatred, exports death, ruins everything in its path and creates nothing. The overall state of the Arab world is appalling. It does not produce one single manufactured product of sufficient quality to sell on world markets. Arab productivity is the lowest in the world. Nowhere in the Arab world is there a single world-class university. Arb scientific achievement has degenerated into a few research programs in the fields of chemical, biological and nuclear warfare. There is not one true democracy in the Arab world. No Arab State genuinely respects human rights. No Arab state hosts a responsible media. No Arab society fully respects the rights of women or minorities, and no Arab government has ever accepted public responsibility for its own shortcomings. Arab societies are dysfunctional and have immersed themselves in a culture of denial. They emphasize struggle, quash competition and reject alternate approaches to Peace or ways of thinking. Arab governments live in a state of internal fear that avoids investigating their failures or acquainting themselves with or opening their societies to the cultures of others. As a result, their societies cannot hand down positive achievements to future generations unless they overcome their secretiveness, their isolation, and especially their compulsive need to blame others for their own failings. The Arab mind is not open enough not to explain everything without a 'conspiracy theory'. The biggest problem with conspiracy theories is that they keep them not only from the truth, but also from confronting their own self inflicted faults and problems. This way of thinking relates any given problem to external elements, and thus does not lead to a rational policy to confront their problems. External and internal conflicts are the lifeblood of Arb society and conflict in the Arb world is not seen as a problem that requires a peaceful solution. The enemy of the Middle East is not the West or Israel so much as modernism and the humiliation that accrues when millions are nursed by fantasies, hypocrisies, and conspiracies to explain away their own failures. Quite simply, any society whose allegiance is to the tribe rather than to the nation, that does not believe in democracy enough to institute it, shuns female intellectual contributions, allows polygamy, insists on patriarchy, institutionalizes religious persecution, ignores family planning, expects endemic corruption, tolerates honor killings, sees no need to vote, and defines knowledge as mastery of the Quran...is deeply pathological. For the Arab world, the status quo is no longer sustainable and time is not on its side. The Salafi jihadists are gaining strength in Egypt, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Lebanon, Sudan, Iraq, F. Arbia, Yemen, Algeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Somalia and among the Fakestininans, and warn that an apocalyptic Armageddon between the Muslim world and the West is approaching. Whether moderate Muslim intellectuals and Western-educated Muslim technocrats will be able to bring on an Islamic Renaissance before rising radical Islam draws them all into an unwinnable nuclear confrontation remains to be seen. Their success in doing so is by no means assured.
13. violence against women in the Strip has a more fundamental
truth ,   new york   (04.10.10)
reason - Islam.
14. I was wondering when. . .
nr ,   los angeles, usa   (04.10.10)
someone would get around to blaming Israel. What excuse did you have, #5, when you treated your women this way before 1948? #6, please, leave my country. You don't belong here. And #4, Jewish law does not categorize women as possessions, nor are they allowed to be beaten. Women actually have rights. Arabs are bullies to their women and the rest of the world.
15. Absolutely No Truth to Violence Against Women in Gaza

Just ask my wife and if she doesn't agree, I will break her other arm too.
16. This would be a perfect oportunity for Israel to establish a

centre for abused wives. This could show the women that Israel protects them more than their "heroic" husbands and reap benefits on both sides.
17. 'White man's burden'?
n   (04.10.10)
Yes, those thinking in line w/ this article bear the responsibility to save women from an intrinsically unforgiving, unsalvable, violent, patriarchal society. yes, israel needs you to save it from itself....
18. #6 I feel pitty for you and your women!
daniel   (04.10.10)
Shame on you.You are still living as caveman and never got out of the cave. Try it and you will see women are more than just good for making baby's dude!
19. # 6
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.10.10)
And I, Rashid, wake up in the mornings & say thankyou to G*d for not making me an Arab !! We are living in 2010 not in 1610. Times have changed & women are treated with equality in the West. Western women are treated with respect, valued & appreciated. A woman is like a flower, she needs water & sunlight to sustain her. The poor Gazan women are unhappy & in pain with the way you Arab men treat them. How can you be proud when you treat your women worse than animals? Shame on you.

Jalal, you know better than that.
21. Rashid - you are a ridiculous primate!
Gili   (04.10.10)
I am so lucky to be born and raised in Israel. I'd rather die than live in a barbaric and backward Arab society. Enjoy your hummus and shisha...

michael lynch   (04.10.10)
countries also suffer from israel....? whats your excuse there?
23. To #6: I hope you are joking
Fran ,   Spain   (04.10.10)
Women are equal to men. Your mentality is the one of the middle ages. Please update yourself. There is a place for you in the kitchen also. Women are not the slaves of men. By the way, I am a man.
24. Rashid
Moshe of Rockville ,   Rockville,MD USA   (04.10.10)
Rashid:Your views of Muslim women is light years behind the respect, admiration, and responsibility that Jewish and non-Jewish women have in Western societies, including the Jewish State.Such women have been and are leaders in law, medicine, government, business, military, politics, education, public safety and religion, including Judaism. While our sages were brilliant for their times, the evolution(or revolution) of opportunities for women in our society continues, supported by our rights based on the freedoms and responsibilities of inherent our democracy.
25. Raschid -- I think you are rationalizing
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (04.10.10)
far too much and don't realize that Jewish people are amazingly variegated. One simple test is for you to see how many professional Jewish women with families there are and how many Jewish women are wonderful achievers in the world outside their families. This would give you a much better idea of the status of Jewish women. Your own analysis is based on one aspect, and one only, of Judaism. Taking the case of the women of Gaza, you would not wish to compare that situation with Islamic women in the USA where freedoms are far more available. I just thought that this post could act as a friendly reminder as to the inadequacy of your analysis.
26. Dear "airman", New Jersey --
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (04.10.10)
I seriously doubt that you can pull out many similar stories about Jewish women in the USA. In fact, Jewish women (for good or for bad) have led society in terms of achievement and liberation from family duties/obligations. I think you just need to deal with the awful situation of women in Gaza, that is, if you are truly interested apart from knocking Jews.
27. At one time, Black women in the USA
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (04.10.10)
were convenient targets of abuse by their Black mates. I can't recall where the analysis came from but it was similar to the situation in Gaza in so far as Black husbands couldn't find reasonable work, were not educated, had few viable hopes and, therefore, felt emasculated. As a result, they turned on the one person who was weaker than they were -- their wives. As their (Black men) situation has improved in America, there has been a concommitant decrease in spousal abuse. Of course, the situation is quite different in Gaza. For one thing, Black people did not suscribe to a Muslim creed which, by its very essence, perceives women as subordinate to, and of lesser signifigance, than men. One of the problems amongst the mideastern Arab people, especially amongst the Muslim population, is the fastpaced spread of modernity. It means that children disobey parents, females seek liberation, people can question religion, families are not as solid as they once had been and sexual mores are changing rapidly. In the Palestine/Israel region of the mideast, Israel is seen to be the culprit as it (Israel) appears to be the gateway to modernization in that area of the globe. This same fact of rapid modernization also affects Israelis, incidentally, especially the Chassidim and other Orthodox members of society. This is a global phenomenon which cannot be helped but should be understood. In western Canada, the Hutterites, while friendly with other Canadians, reside in collectives and socialize and intermarry amongst their own kind only. In this way, they hope to avoid the worst aspects of modernization. The Amish people of Pennsylvania, while friendly to outsiders, also seek to avoid modernization by staying, worshipping and socializing amongst themselves. Both the Hutterites and the Amish possess the freedom to restrict themselves due to the broad democratic features of both Canada and the USA. This would not be possible in many other countries and certainly not in Gaza.
28. #6 ---good point, but...
Len ,   Florida, USA   (04.10.10)
....the great majority of Jews do not believe this crap. Culturally, the balance of power in the Jewish world disfavors oppression that women face in the Muslim world. Honor killings are unheard of. Jewish men with daughters want them to have it all. Female circumcision is unheard of. Although Muslims have seen a rise in equality for their women suicide bombers--although I believe that they do not share equally in the rewards of the male afterlife. Also, Muslims have not outlawed poligamy. All our worlds need further reformation, but generally the Muslim world is backword place. It has not produced a technological advancement benefitting mankind for at least a 1,000 years. You need revolution of the mind, my USA friend.

sohnes ,   holzheim, germany   (04.10.10)
Cooking and making babies...ever heard of "Suffragettes" (hope i spelled that right). I defo think, they could use such a movement in Muslim countries very much, too. One mo thing: Woman covers herself, so that man does not get horny, rite? What if woman sees man (not covered) and begins feeling horny, isn't that a bit unfair? :) J
30. re rashid
eporue ,   europe   (04.10.10)
lets not forget, this "attitude" was quite the same in europe not extremely long ago... my father told me almost the same words - about "our" role in society as rashid... a society can define their rules as they wish. so can muslims. i dont see muslim women on protest. BUT WHAT IS NOT OK, is the fact about the "VALUE" of women. e.g. with this yemenite girl of 12 years, which died during "intercourse" - allegedly. sounds unlikely, what if she was in fact murdered, beaten to death ? it also seems, this is NOT investigated... --> the death of a female is same (terrible) as the death of a male. --> the life of a female is same "worth" as one of a male. i dont see that in the muslim society, its a gross injustice, imo.
