31. #14, awesome point
some dude   (04.11.10)
As a politically conservative Jew it always made me cringe when people referred to Bush as the "most pro-Israel president". Bush was not Israel's best friend, even when many many conservative Jews made the case that he was. The most prominent example was in Bush's firm term at the beginning of operation defensive shield when he called for moving back Israeli troops and tanks, and both DM Ben-Eliezer and PM Sharon both had to say no and reject his demands. Personally, I think on the issue of Israel both conservatives and liberals are hypocrites. Conservatives thought Bush was wonderful on Israel - he was not - and all the liberals thought it would be ok with Obama - and he is a complete disaster for Israel. There can be no doubt about that last point- not after going to Cairo and telling the whole arab world that the basis for the creation of the State of Israel was the Holocaust and completely ignoring the deep historical connection of the Jewish people to the land of Israel.

As a German you think Obama is great. But Germany and Saudi Arabia aren't the whole world. The people of Afghanistan don't agree because Obama is running a pointless war and massacring countless civilians. The people of Georgia, Ukraine and Kyrgiza (and probably other free countries) don't agree because Obama sold them to Putin. The people of Tibet don't agree because Obama forced their leader to come in the back entrance like he was worthless. The Kurds don't agree because they don't see any movement to a free Kurdistan. And Israelis don't agree because Obama thinks that the US interest is to exterminate Israel.
33. Mr Calic is almost right
Frank ,   Canada   (04.11.10)
American Liberals are corrupted by Arab propaganda and are supporting Arab jihad against the Jews but a large portion of American conservatives is hostile to Israel. Israel does not need anymore the US so the right option is to expel the Yanks from the ME.
34. good morning america

its about time all the so-call liberal jews woke up and smelled the coffe that they brewed
35. #15 - You are either joking or simply uniformed!
redbourn ,   Arad, Israel   (04.11.10)
Obama is bankrupting the US Degrading it militarily. He has alienated every US ally including the UK. http://www.ourchangingglobe.com/slapping-friends-around-and-kissing-up-to-enemies-has-been-a-failure/ And more and more Americans are pushing the panic button. The thinking now is not, "Can Israel survive Obama?', but "Can the US survive Obama?'". If you don't read talkbacks on the US media then please start now. Mike
36. the 2.2 million question
yehoshua ,   usa   (04.11.10)
someone needs to answer the question. What is Israel going to do with the 2.2 million arabs that live in judea and sameria? Talkbackers know what they don't want. But how does Israel solve the problem?
37. #23 No, doesn't bother me
Madeleine ,   Israel   (04.11.10)
just can't see why you'd want to or what you get out of it. Never mind. Israel, at least, is a free country and you can say what you like.
38. #23 Salma, most people do.
(04.11.10)
39. David # 4: I share a similar background and similar feelings
Steve Kaplan ,   Minneapolis, MN   (04.11.10)
and I too have no intention of crossing the red line Obama has with regard to the Jewish people and its connection to Israel. He has managed to repel me from being a life-long supporter of the Democratic party.
40. Unfortunately, recent poll shows Jews sticking with Obama
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (04.11.10)
A recent poll by the American Jewish Committee finds that Jews, by an large, still support Obama. 57% say they approve of the job he's doing, while 55% back his handling of Israel. As a point of comparison, roughly 44% of Americans surveyed approve of the job Obama is doing. And a separate (Pew?) poll reports some 65% of Americans support Israel while less than 20% support the Palestinians. Keep in mind that the majority of US Jews have *never* even visited Israel. (Two of my siblings never have.) Even those who have aren't necessarily in Israel's corner. My 29-year old nephew, who spent a semester at Alexander Muss, is just fine with the way Obama treated Netanyahu. And - like a typical liberal - assumes my contrary opinion comes from "Fox News" (which I don't even get). Arguing with a liberal is like debating with a cultist. They have their "truth" and they're sticking to it.
41. Religion of Liberalism
G.S. ,   USA   (04.11.10)
Mr. Calic, you are far too optimistic. There might be a few liberal American Jews who have changed their minds, but most are hopeless. Their only religion is fanatic, orthodox liberalism and they will never disavow its prophet, Obama, pbuh.
42. Salma, I'm sure you've read the news...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (04.11.10)
...that is the news the Israelis are prevented from getting what with all their censorship in their "free" and "democratic" country. Support from American Jews for President Obama is holding nearly steady, they are not buying the AIPAC line, nor are they buying Bibi and the racists lines. As many others have noted, President Obama may very well be one of the best US Presidents in modern times, and this drives the racist tea baggers we have here in the 'states bonkers, just like in Israel. My wife and I proudly voted for him and will again when he gets reelected in 2012. It's time for our little client state to recognize.
43. NWO
Vincent ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (04.11.10)
Henry Kissenger said "Obama is primed to create the New World Order. We must forge a new order or retreat to chaos". With that said, anyone whom is a member of the NWO is anti-Israel.
44. #36
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.11.10)
Christians, Samaritans, Turks and Beduins become Israeli citizens with full rights. All Muslims who lived in Israel prior to the British Mandate and the massive illegal Arab immigration become Israeli citizens with full rights. Muslim colonists who came together with the British return to their homelands. The costs of their repatriation are easily covered by the massive amounts of money now used to support the corrupt Fatah and "Palestinian Authority". At the same time, reparations must be paid to the Jews driven from their homes in the Arab countries. In some cases, Muslim-owned land in Israel can be traded for Jewish-owned land in the Arab countries.
45. Good, bad or indifferent - Israel needs to grow up
Alright there ted   (04.11.10)
Please understand that the US will act in the interests of the US. It's previously unquestioning support of Israel was jeopardising it's international reputation and hamstringing it's ability to be an effective player on the world stage. Israel needs to take responsibility for advancing its own interests and be accountable for actions that it takes - just like any other grown up.
46. #4, #39

One answer is to be an Independent and not be in the pocket of either party.
47. #7 don't speak in god's name
ghostq   (04.11.10)
he doesn't when people do that, and you know it will be good many Arab setelment exist in Israel, it will be great Idea for both to trade. and Obama mess up in many way, now the friends of USA don't like the USA. and that includs graveling infront of Russia.
48. to #38 good idea I will do the same.

49. #6, yeah better to be
Danny   (04.11.10)
a North Korean, chinese, Iranian and Al-Qaeda lapdog...
50. #15, yes and no
Danny   (04.11.10)
I agree Israel should use this opportunity to unhitch itself from the US. However how exactly is he representing US interests. Forget Israel for a minute, Iran is causing havoc in Afghanistan and Iraq but he wants to suck up to them. Ditto North Korea. Ditto China. If he was a strong leader, honestly representing US interests he'd be standing up to them but he isn't because he is nothing more than a playground bully.
51. Israel is in grave danger
Char ,   Moriarty, NM, USA   (04.11.10)
It is more than the fact that Obama is not a friend to the Jews. It is the fact that Israel's enemies are empowered by Obama's indifference to Israel. Obama is Muslim in background. To him, the simplest solution to the Middle East problem would be the elimination of Israel. Problem solved and he can go on with his quest to be the messiah. Once the Muslim leaders fully realize this fact, they will make the extinction of Israel a top priority. And if America goes to war with a coalition of communist nations as it looks that she will, where will Israel be then, when it is perceived that her strongest ally cannot or will not help her. She will be under attack and in grave danger and in utter fear. Only G_d can help then, and why should he? Israel doesn't even talk to him or listen any more. Where is the God of the parting of the Red Sea? Asleep? Not at the helm? Or, offended because the sacrifice he offered (his own son) in Abraham's son Isaac's place is so rejected? One thing is clear from the Scriptures: God talks. Time to seek him and hear from him, as a nation and as a people.
52. Raymond in DC, liberals are like cultists?
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (04.11.10)
...I've read some laughable stuff over the years but that one's pretty funny. Every liberal I have ever come across will readily change their opinions when presented with cold hard facts. Implying that an entire modern school of thought is frozen in time and never questioned or evolving is childishly stupid. But I've seen you write far worse.
53. Sadly alot of US jews will vote for him again in 2012
Zionist forever   (04.11.10)
All he needs to do is give the IMPRESSION of being on the verge of peace or create a deal that will bring peace on paper only and the US jews will forget all and say this is the man we want. Alot of US jews have a short attention span and all it will take is some of Obamas famous speeches make out like everything is going great and they will love him for it. The man has as good as declared war on Israel and told the palestinians look if you want to carry out terror ok just make it look like you want peace so I can save face and I will turn a blind eye and blame it all on Israel. Long term its unclear how this will affect Israel / US relations especially when it comes to the Democrats who the jews vote for. For now though America has become our greatest threat so I encourage all Americans to vote for Republicans in November because if the Democrats loose their control of Congress it will weaken Obama and harm his capability to act like a dictaitor towards Israel.
54. Protecting its people and borders is Israel's moral duty.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.11.10)
If America demands that Israel relinquish biblical territory, refrain from responding to the murder of its citizens, or cease building in the West Bank, Israel's reply should be "No." And if aid is thereby cut off (unlikely but possible), so be it. Protecting its people and borders is Israel's moral obligation. Maintaining close relations with America is not. Israel will not collapse without America as an ally. It can survive on its own or form alliances with other countries. More at : http://xrl.us/bex2jh
55. Again Righteous Among the Nations
Ra'anana, Israel   (04.11.10)
It's nonsense like this that makes me embarrassed for my own people. Mr Celic is clearly out of touch with what being "pro-israel is." I'm really not sure how maintaining the status quo, one which essentially amounts to living in a constant state of siege while imposing inhumane living conditions on millions of people, all at a drastic social and economic pricetag equals "pro-Israel" to anybody. My wish is one day soon Jews with limited, fogged and frankly distorted ideas of Israel and what she needs will wake up and begin to live like the people we were intended to be-peace loving, compassionate, and righteous among the nations. All of you, please, take the time to think about this. Stop fighting everyone, let go of the fear and paranoia, look around, and let's make our people truly great again so that I, and millions more in Israel, may raise my family in a country I am proud of, without the constant threat of war.
56. Right on, Dan -Good comment from #40
Imperator ,   USA   (04.11.10)
Yes, this is the sad truth: Obama is the WORST US President vis-a-vis Israel and the increasing role that Zbig Brzezinski is playing in his inner circle is alarming. Raymond (#40) is right and as a Jew, I despair when I hear Jews still support him, but hopefully by 11/10 Obama will be a lame duck and by 11/12 a one-term President. Let's just hope that the damage to US-Israel relations will not be irreversible.
57. You see Salame read the news I manufacture...
Michael Hess aka BS ,   Charlotte, NC   (04.11.10)
in my yellow journal that makes you believe all the rosy stories about yourself to cover up the lies, corruption, mismanagement, intolerance, hateful attitude and backward mentality of your Arab people who occupied Middle East throwing out the natives who once lived there.
58. Obama doing mediocre to possibly good job convincing ...
arik ,   usa   (04.11.10)
America, that he's for America--not other countries whose agents seek to and, at least in congress, have set our countries middle east foreign policy agenda. I know it's still hard--after eight years of George W--to have a new president whose policies are not 100% what you want. W is out to pasture now--a disgraced ex-"leader" who has fallen off the radar completely. How ungrateful America is--them and their lousy $3billion and UN veto--who needs it anyway? Doesn't Obama realize that he's there in order to implement Israeli-set policies? Wonder if the next step is a little Dubai style accident for Obama--after all--what Israel wants is what Israel gets.... BTW: This liberal Jew recognizes the fact that Obama has gone further than at least some to defy the yoke of AIPAC's setting of our mid-east foreign policy. I would like to see him continue.
59. to Aviva-haviva #18
Ariel ,   US   (04.11.10)
Bravo, Aviva! You are exactly right! One additional comment. Obama is an educated man. He does know that Jews have historical connection to the Land of Israel. He perfectly understands that there is an enormous distance between the WWII and Gaza. He does what he does to please the Arabs. When he said in Cairo that the connection between Jews and the Land is the Holocaust, Iranian mullahs and Ahmadinajud (whatever his name is) were very pleased. This was the purpose. I am sure that Abbas, who denies the existence of Beit HaMikdash was also very happy. Because if there is no historical connection, one can divide the land as he pleases. Obama is a big danger. I hope it is only two more years. But, unfortunately, I suspect that we are for six more years. And American Jews will still vote for him. How sad!

AK   (04.11.10)
All right, so you and your kind in-name-only Jews don't give a damn where Israel and her security is concerned, but you will scream bloody murder next year when your medical benefits get taxed, your taxes go up and vat is implemented. You kind will respond then in a predictable way when your pocketbook gets a hefty hit.
