1. Ugly Concrete Jungle
Avi , israel (04.14.10)
Having looked at the project i came to the conclusion it was and is an ugly concrete jungle, an exercise of how many people can you possibly cram in to a concrete box with out the slightest respect for privacey, noise levels or nature for that matter. Holly land my a**
2. They Are Not Ugly. They Are...
Reuven Brauner , Raanana, Israel (04.14.10)
Hideous.
3. You probally will just get used to it
(04.14.10)
The ugliness, is perhaps its new look, the connecting bridges at the top. In ten years perhaps that will become very common in Jerusalem and considered beautiful.
4. I've Seen This In Person - I Agree It's Not Ugly
Seth , Washington, DC (04.14.10)
There is some word that has not yet invented which means that something is beyond ugly. This project is the ugliest building that has ever been built and the ugliest building that will be built over the next 3 billion years. You're right - it's not ugly - it's far worse!
5. Even in Washington we don't allow 32-story towers
Raymond in DC , Washington, USA (04.14.10)
Our city long ago instituted height restrictions and, while developers may protest, they've helped retain a human scale, even downtown. So the notion of putting 32-story towers on the hilly terrain of Jerusalem is rightly deemed offensive. There's something to be said for respecting the environment in which one is building. One would have hoped Jerusalem would have learned from its experience with the Hideous Hilton. Clearly they didn't.
6. A question: is the project architect expressing...
(04.14.10)
a subjective or an objective point of view or a subjectively objective one or an objectively subjective one or is he just full of serious and foul smelling baloney?
7. does this fool know ANYTHING about the history/arch of J'lem
dante , uk (04.14.10)
stupidity is not a victimless crime!!! though these buildings show NO evidence of any creativity or insight by the architect, they might be suitable for Tel Aviv or Kiryat Gat or Beersheva or Buenos Aires or Rio but NOT in Jersusalem. ANYONE WHO DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE UNIQUE QUALITY OF THE CITY HAS NO BUSINESS DESIGNING ANYTHING FOR THE CITY! too stupid, too clueless for words.
8. Do you remember what everyones reaction was?
David , Jerusalem (04.14.10)
What I find amazing about the current scandal is, that I remember as the Holyland monstrosities were going up almost everyones first reaction was " Who did they pay off to get this ugly mess approved?". And though at the time know one had an answer it seems... everyone got paid off!
9. with not much land to go around....
shadoil , Jerusalem (04.14.10)
if you dont build up how should you build? If we spread out lower than in 20 years there will be no parks or green space left in this country.
10. He is right
Daniel Breslauer , Jerusalem (04.14.10)
Yes, he is correct. The towers are relatively harmless, compared to the lateral buildings. The towers are barely noticeable. While I don't like the towers either, their ugliness is naught compared to the ugliness of the other buildings, which exceeds the limits of what the human mind can comprehend.
11. if they're not ugly, why $15 million in bribes?
david , new york (04.15.10)
it took $15,000,000 in bribes to make these buildings "pretty" enough to be built
12. Looks like it's competing with Dubai...
Edithann , USA (04.15.10)
It's way out of line with the land, it's history and it's meaning..... Not everyone appreciates Miami Beach... No taste, no class... TATA
13. As ugly as bribes
Visitor (04.14.10)
14. Jerusalem
Yerushalmi (04.15.10)
Architect should have his eyes examined. They are ugliest buildings in Jerusalem. They would fit better in Pyongyang, next to Ryugyong Hotel.
15. It’s Easy to criticize...
Sebastian , Jerusalem (04.15.10)
…when you don’t need to buy a department in Jerusalem. The city is full, and the people only think about “how nice WAS Jerusalem”. We need much more buildings, or the city will die. BTW, there’s nothing natural on building low. Skyscrapers occupy much less land, being more friendly to the environment.
16. not ugly just wrong place
dan (04.15.10)
I agree the buildings are not actually ugly if they were built somewhere else but on top of the hill they are ugly because they are completly exposed alone.
17. if the brits only knew
oferdesade , israel (04.15.10)
they'd have had this guy up on crimes against humanity long ago
18. Oh come on!
Tomer , Hod Hasharon, Israel (04.15.10)
They are as fugly as sin! The similar thing on a hillside in Modi'in is bad enough, but to put this crock in Jerusalem - ghastly. Words fail me!
19. It's the area's ugly houses...
Orly , Jerusalem, Israel (04.15.10)
...that are a terrible eyesore. The behemoth one-family-houses of the area are constructed with no coordination and look as if they were teleported into their properties in a manner suited to fit them all in rather than look nice. These wealthy home owners are upset that foreign-born Jews who's money's ink is a little wetter can move into the area, and in a neat and beautiful complex that makes them notice how ugly the landscape of the neighborhood is.
20. Does he hate Jerusalem?
The 11th Man , London (04.15.10)
21. Another reason for Moshiach!
KO , UK (04.15.10)
22. to #20: I think he's probably just tasteless
which is even worse (04.15.10)
for an architect..
23. Holyland Architect
Yvette Gross , Kibbutz Afikim Israe (04.15.10)
Is this man blind ot too full of himself to admit that he designed an ugly monstrosity that blends in with nothing? Who on earth empolyed him?
24. Holyland Towers
Joe Charlap , Mevasseret Israel (04.15.10)
Its not as much as the towers being ugly but a matter of where they are placed that makes them a blight on the skyline of Jerusalem. That location is totally the wrong place for them and they should be bulldozed.
25. They look like ugly monsters
HT , Jerusalem (04.16.10)
I, and everyone I talk to, think that they are ugly. When I first saw them years ago, I thought "Who gave permission to build these monstrosities?" They ruin the landscape of Jerusalem.
26. Holy Mess
Joe Charlap , Mevasseret Israel (04.16.10)
This would never have happened under Teddy Kollek
27. discusting in jerusalem
ahh , why in the world (04.18.10)
An Icon to the Decline of All the Worlds Civilizations and Scar to the Face of Humanity---- SAD... this Holyland Project is awful. I returned after 2 yrs away from jerusalem and was shocked and sickened to see the entire thing....so wrong. Tear it down-Get Rid of it- make it go away. yuk / icksa.
28. I cant even call them Jerusalem or Holyland Project
maya , usa-s.a.- e.u. (04.18.10)
You could not pay me to sleep there......at 1st sight I was shocked, than sickened, than sad, and now I am discusted and feeling betrayed by the entire state. After 6 yrs of debating to become an Oleh Hadash I return to follow through on such a decision with my family to see this in Jerusalem- We can turn our backs and leave.... this structure is is not Holy, it is an abomination in the face of G-d and insult/assult to all the worlds Humanity. How dare they.
29. Holy Land towers
Jo , USA (04.19.10)
Although they might be ugly, high rises are something that Israel will soon have to deal with because of the growing population and limited land.
