31. Put her in jail & loose the keys.
Wise Saba ,   Netivot   (04.12.10)
She is nothing more than a traitor & should be treated as one. Lock her up!
32. The Left abandoned by Israeli voters: Here's why
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (04.12.10)
Kam is just another valiant Leftist fighting for human rights and justice, right? WRONG! Nowhere does she say anything about war crimes perpetrated by the Palestinians. In fact, you never hear the Left talk about Palestinian war crimes, despite the fact that they are there right before their very eyes. The Israeli electorate isn't stupid. Why would Israelis vote for a Leftist government that is obsessed with Israeli "war crimes" and totally ignores the fact that our enemies are out there committing war crimes against us? The blindness of today's Left is astounding. They certainly do talk a lot and impress themselves and their Palestinian friends. However, they do not impress Israeli voters. Democracy is indeed alive and well. Only the Left is declaring it dead, because they lost the confidence of the Israeli voter and have yet to come to grips with that fact.

William ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
and he was targeted with fire bombs and fired from office for it.
34. Response for "Birdi" #30
Richard ,   USA   (04.12.10)
Sitting in jail...for what? Have you seen the evidence? Shouldn't one wait until a fair trial? Or you place people in jail before a hearing? Or you made up your mind? This is not Stalin's Russia, this is a country with courts and laws in place; if you already are judging before seeing the evidence, that shows pretty bad judgment; hopefully you will never have any decision making capabilities that will affect other people, you re so full of bias. Richard
35. History forgives those who expose war crimes
Bear ,   zefat, Israel   (04.12.10)
Seeing her comments, I can draw only one conclusion: she's just plain STUPID! For the future, only older, mature, people should be exposed to sensitive material.
36. Sally, Sally, Sally
Jane   (04.12.10)
Often, though not exclusively, members of the left
37. Kam, actually history will forget.....
Danny   (04.12.10)
38. Espionage
harvey ,   london   (04.12.10)
This woman has compromised Israels security .She has committed espionage and has thus assisted Israels enemies . The Rosenburgs were executed for betraying the US following disclosure of US nuclear programme Kam should be thankful there is no death penalty in Israel but like Vanunu before her,she must be incarcerated for her crimes
39. History does not forgive evil people.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (04.12.10)
She should get prison for her whole remaining life. Treason towards one own's people is un- forgetabble. And I agree to a prior posting: Haaretz should be shuted down!
40. So it would seem, #32, so it would seem
Cameron ,   USA   (04.12.10)
We have the same kind of pompous lot roaming about over here awaiting their own smack-down in a few months.
41. Richard #34 try reading the article
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (04.12.10)
She has already admitted that she stole those documents. At the very least she endangered thousands of lives. She may have even been responsible for the deaths of several. If that is the case treason is way too soft of a criminal charge. And yes she should be sitting in a jail until her trial.
42. # 34
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
Why not also read posts nos,3,4,5,7,10,18,& 31 & include them in your tirade (against me) aswell.
43. Kam & crimes
Bruria   (04.12.10)
The only crime history will remember is that of Kam who betrayed her country and the people in it. She is a traitor and should be put in jail. Her partner in crime likewise should be extradited and jailed--and Haaretz needs to be put out of business. Let them go to Gaza and print Hamas PR. We don't need the likes of them here.
44. sick girl

poor deluded thing...
45. ah! Jane

Please don't diminish the discussion by turning it into a left/right self-righteous item
46. Espionage is a respectful activity
non-biased   (04.12.10)
Mossad, Shin Bet, CIA... they all enjoy much respect for what they do. non-biased
47. Haaretz reporter Uri Blau
Robert Haymond ,   Ashdod, Israel   (04.12.10)
Assuming that Anat Kam has indeed stolen senstive and prohibited state secrets as indicated in this article and assuming she willingly passed them on to reporter Uri Blau, she would certainly be guilty of espionage or some such deviation. As to the reporter, it would then appear to have been a conspiracy, making the crime even more significant. The reporter, I assume, knew what he was obtaining and chose to keep it hidden until he decided when and where to expose it. Given his tenure as a reporter and his previous brush with the law and censored material, I would suggest that he is even more responsible than Anat Kam for the possible misuse of prohibited material. I think some reporters think that freedom of the press is freedom to do anything with any information which they may obtain no matter how that information is obtained yet we do have laws regarding slander as well as other prohibitions such as revealing information which may be of direct harm to the state. Admittedly, there is a fine line here and that is why we need to adhere to a Court process. Finally, Haaretz itself may also be responsible for gross impropriety and, if so, must be called to judgement. I think that all freedoms also have their limitations. No "free" society is absolutely free and so it is with Israel and its democratic insistence on widespread freedoms.
48. While the govt. throws patriotic 13 year old in jail...
Chaim ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
While the government throws patriotic 13 year olds in jail for settling our 3,500 year old heartland, leftists are committing wholesale treason against Israel. The Kam incident, disgusting as it is, is but the tip of the iceberg. As are the recevent revealations of the New Israel's Funding of the modern blood libel known as the Goldstone Report. Leftists are betraying Israel right, left and centre with hardly a peep from the media or political leadership. Often with the assistance of prominent leftist leaders and parties. We must end this disgraceful situation. Israel must become a proud nation which respects and rewards patriotism and severely punishes treason.
49. #34 Uh, Richard...
Paul ,   USA   (04.12.10)
People go to jail when they get arrested. Pre trail inmates can stay in the klink prior to and after a hearing, if the judge decides that the crime that has been commited is serious enough to warrant it.
50. It depends on who writes the history
Mahlon Drumgoole ,   Newark NJ USA   (04.12.10)
There are 3 issues in this sordid affair. First, and most importantly, security in Israel's army by following rules and procedures is nonexistent and a disgrace. Like everything else in Israel, the IDF is too informal and does not take things seriously enough and this can be the reason for a catastrophe. 2. Kam, Blau, and Haaretz are guilty of treason. Imagine, a little ignorant snot decides, because of her grandiosity, to steal, and thus betray her country. Her reasons for what she did is meaningless as she was so incompetent that she gave away state secrets that threatened the state itself. The owners of Haaretz and Blau also must be punished to the maximum allowed by the law. Freedom of speech does not include the right to betray national secrets. 3. How history will remember her depends on who writes the history. Leftist historians who love to make things up and despise everything about Israel will hail her as a national hero while mainstream historians will condemn her crime. She should be locked up for the rest of her disgusting life.
51. Kam- "I am...."
Julie ,   Hawaii, USA   (04.12.10)
So... since her mommy thinks she's a wonderful child who could never do what she is being accused of is now claiming to be the judge and jury on what constitutes a "war crime". I think she would probably shi-shi her pants if placed in an actual real war situation. How did she even qualify for the position she was in... to steal these highly classified documents? That's the real problem here.
52. Please
Leo ,   Modi'in   (04.12.10)
dear readers wait a little before passing judgement. Until ynet's talkback turns into a new courtroom, the case is not over yet. And even when it is, the (ugly) facts uncovered will remain. We can live with them or do something about them. Whatever you think about left or right, arrogance of the left, self-respect of the right, in whatever style you write about it, what could have caused what or what couldn't, does not change a single second the reality on the ground. And it is sad indeed. This is it. Now you can get back to the usual talkback and play of blaming whomever you wish.
53. # 34
Miya ,   Israel   (04.12.10)
I suggest you re-read this article where it says Anat Kam has confessed to stealing the documents. Before you criticize posters here, be sure of what you are saying so you don't make a fool of yourself.
54. Not exactly
Gideon Reader ,   USA   (04.12.10)
Specific individuals with this disgusting, treason bent bit of excrement's same world view; anti Israel viewpoint, who may be engaged in "directed history" according to their outlook and political pursuasion, MAY forgive. But the long and startlingly clear national corporate memory, will NOT. She will always be the, lower than whale feces/snake's belly/night shift on come one come all time, cut rate, by the group flute duty at the economy brothel in the badest part of town, for those with social diseases. This young woman has a long time to be with us as we watch her at home circling the bowl. I am sure her book and world tour among the Jew haters/anti-Israel groups will soon start as soon as she is freed on bond.
55. Anat Kam
Conrad ,   Toulouse, France   (04.13.10)
God, please save me from my friends...
56. Featherbrained narcissist
Ariel ,   US   (04.13.10)
This 23 year old pisherit has a delusion that History ( with a capital H!!!) will pay any attention to her... This is a typical Loony Left fantasy. What she needs is a public spanking and a year without fancy cell phones, boutiques, text messaging and double latte with soy milk. She will repent after 2 weeks! Her parents, whether they admit it or not, raised a shallow, featherbrained narcissist. I pity them...
57. #53, confessed isn't the right word
Danny   (04.13.10)
bragged maybe?
58. So What if I lost the CD?
Anat Kam ,   Gush Dan   (04.13.10)
Accidents Happen!
59. # 56
Birdi ,   Israel   (04.13.10)
Agree with every word. This "pisherit" is delusional to the point of no return & a pathetic excuse of a human being.
60. Anat Kam, a courageous Israeli with a conscience
Ben Alofs ,   BANGOR, UK   (04.13.10)
She may have broken the law but she did a very courageous thing: to expose Israeli army commanders who deliberately gave orders for extra-judicial assassinations even though Israel's Supreme Court had ruled that these orders are illegal. One of the legal implications of the Kafr Qasim massacre of 1956, during which Israeli soldiers murdered dozens of Palestinian civilians in cold blood, was that Israeli soldiers do not have to obey manifestly illegal orders. You can no longer hide behind Befehl ist Befehl. Rather than being silently complicit in state crimes Anat Kam followed her moral belief system . Yes, she acted illegally by taking classified material and giving that to Uri Blau, who used the material for an article about how Israel's army holds it own Supreme Court in contempt. That is not espionage. A spy steals state secrets and hands them over to a foreign power (often for pecuniary gain, like in the case of Jonathan Pollard). What Anat Kam did, is not treason either. Far from it, she was trying to expose the illegal and criminal behaviour of army commanders, upholiding the law of the land and defending Israel as a state with moral values. She is a heroine, who should be admired for her courage.
