Normally I despise what Michael Hess stands for given his postings in Ynet and. preceding that, in Haaretz. I don't find his comments either salutary nor particularly evocative other than a recognition that all of his posts, taken together, only indicate to me the strength of his Jew hatred. He has stated at various times that he is a descendant of the Cherokee people. Most of the Cherokees were sent out west from the eastern seaboard on what is known as the lamentable "Trail of Tears". Some Cherokees remained. Michael Hess counts himself amongst them. "The Education of Little Tree" was a book written by Cherokee storyteller Forrest Carter. It is a very moving account of the growth and development of a young Cherokee raised by his grandmother and grandfather. I often expressed that this was a "must read" to Michael in various postings but never received a response. I am very familiar with the Indians of the Plains and Prairies. A number of them have taken on the roles of elders and teachers for me. Their history in both Canada and America is tortuous yet many are so humane as to accept and help White people (like me) who have requested healing and knowledge. I would refer the reader to Ronald Wright's painful book on the impact of Europeans on the indigenous people of North and South America. Only Robert Jay Lifton's book entitled "The Nazi Doctors" was more painful still. At any rate, referring to Michael Hess as "Indian boy" was uncalled for and racist. Most of us are Jews and we regret demeaning behaviour, especially our own. As a (retired) psychologist, I found it difficult enough to make assumptions about other peoples' lives even when meeting and assessing them face to face. I have been guilty of making these assumptions, probably right here on Ynet at times. Nonetheless, I think it's silly to make those assumptions about Michael Hess. We know a few facts about him: He and his partner, Kandy Ringer, used to run a website, BBSNews, which was virulently anti-Israel and which has since been shut down by themselves according to Michael Hess. Michael and Kandy moved a short distance outside of Charlotte and reside on a hobby farm together. Michael calls himself a "journalist" by profession. One time, during an upsetting exchange, Kandy Ringer came to Michael's defence on Ynet and she also wrote personally to me. She said that Michael only wanted "peace" in the region. I thought she was being a supportive partner but either niave or ignorant. She also said, in reference to a previous post of mine, that he hates being referred to as "Mike". One more thing: As much as I despise Michael Hess, he also delivers his posts with his correct name and he used to include his email address. I do the same. I am frankly dismayed at the number of people who ordinarily use pseudonyms and refuse to include their email addresses. So much more hostility is evident when people hide behind anonymity.
