While I would have welcomed Goldstone as a clever person with different views, I would rather passed on meeting Avrum. I prefer not to meet nuts. Honest disagreement is fine, different expression of views fine, but lies and distortions that are deliberate are not. Israel suffers at the hands of goldstone's lies which burg probably does not regret. The choice that israel faces is its current position or ztimmi ciitzens under arab majority. In between, there are all kinds of formulations. Obama cannot gurantee israel security nor can the 2 faced EU or russians. Only israel can. Arabs have to compromise as well. Obama takes their position which makes him biased so he's out. In the meantime, the cowards ross, kurtzer, indyk, emanual can all jump in the lake as they advise hussein how to destroy israel. Burg throws out the phony premise that "a society that features wealth of expression and a culture of debate works out the disagreements". Bah! Nothing could be farther from the truth. Goldstone didn't want to "debate" anything. His report was based on a mixture of fact, rumor and innuendo and he made no apologies for not investigating the outlandish Palestinian claims included in the report. Burg talks about boycotts, yet ignores the fact that his leftist buddies are either supporting boycotts against Israel or staying silent in the face of the boycotts. Of course, there are no such boycotts of Palestinians for their policies of terrorism and attacks against civilians. Burg is a loud-mouthed anachronism. He's disgusted with Israelis for abandoning the Oslo peace process after its dismal failure, instead of pursuing it to its disastrous end of handing over territory and forcing hundreds of thousands out of their homes in return for hot air. Burg is like his Palestinian counterparts....providing us with more hot air instead of showing us how we can trust the Palestinians. I too would invite Goldstone (whereas my neighbors would not) but on the condition that he stand up in front of us and explain how an experienced judge allowed uncorroborated "evidence" into his report - something that simply doesn't happen in a normal justice system. Goldstone is a tool of the Palestinian anti-Israel propaganda machine. Burg, of course, doesn't even try to address that. Burg will no doubt vote Meretz in the next elections, joining the few thousand other die-hards who fail to understand why 98% of Israeli voters won't.

You misunderstood Burg and forget his knowledge of history. Burg was pointing out the historical fact that the Jewish revolt against the Romans would have succeeded if it weren't for the Jews who collaborated with the Romans. These collaborators accepted money and power from the Romans to betray the Jewish patriots and to portray the Jewish culture as backwards and primitive. When the fighting began, the Jewish rebels were helpless because instead of just fighting the Romans, they had to contend with the collaborators who they thought were their brothers but were actually Roman agents.
