1. Is Israel a democracy?
Moshi ,   The Netherlands   (04.22.10)
Equal rights for everyone!! This shows that Israel is not a democracy!!!
2. #1 YOU ARE RIGHT!!!
Yitzchak ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (04.22.10)
Israel, for thousands of years until only just 62 years ago, has always been, and soon will ONCE AGAIN be - a "theocracy". A government based on religion, where homosexuality IS NOT TOLERATED! Even Israels Declaration of Independence first declares Israel as Jewish (theocratic) and then as democratic. The democratic takes a back seat to theocratic - AS IT SHOULD!!!!
3. A democracy, yes
Nahum Litwin ,   Kfar Saba, Israel   (04.22.10)
A democracy allows for all points of view. So, to Moshi in the Netherlands, quick to say Israel is not one, please note that both sides of this discussion are free to voice their opinions.
4. the gay community got what it deserve
(04.22.10)
gay community looked for pointless provocation so they got what they deserve, and they got the nerve to critisis the right wingers for marching in east jerusalem.
5. Time to show our feelings
Moish ,   Jerusalem   (04.22.10)
Its time to open your eyes and see how many frum people are in the closet. According to Halacha the Torah does not let a man to lie with another man like he would do with a woman. But "gay" frum men are able to have a relationship with another man and not break the law and lie with another man like he would do with a woman but he will not have anal sex with him. This does not stop him from hugging of kissing him. Its time that frum Jews are allowed to escape from the closet and not be afraid to show their feelings.
6. Katz
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (04.22.10)
Me thinks that perhaps the M. P protests to much, Some deep seated problem perhaps?
7. Another Mazuz failure
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (04.22.10)
This ceremony is to commemorate the attack on a club in Tel Aviv. At the time, many public and press personalities used the attack to defame and delegitimize the religious community. Mazuz, AG at the time, did nothing to calm the incitement to hatred and violence. Mazuz even let someone release false information that a Jew living in Samaria was responsible for the crime. A year later no one knows who did this crime. Is it because the police under Mazuz' guidance only hunt for religious Jews, and ignore the more likely possibility that the attacker was an Arab nationalist or a member of the GLBT community?
8. Horowitz is wrong
Sagi   (04.22.10)
in trying to force his aberrant lifestyle on the general public just as Katz is wrong in trying to force his aberrant lifestyle on the same public. They both are wrong in using National symbols for this purpose. Homosexuality is a private matter, just as heterosexuality is a private matter. Religion is a private matter and should not be forced on anyone just as aetheism is a private matter. Most people in this country have their values warped. Democracy is not and never has been a strong point in this country.
9. #4 What are you banging on about?
Talula ,   Israel   (04.22.10)
If you, and your infinitesimal atom sized brain, think that there is the slightest comparison to gays holding a gay pride meeting at the Knesset and a bunch of blood thirsty-the-army-will-protect-us-we’ll-do-what-we-want religious simpletons marching in East Jerusalem or any other area predominately populated by Arabs, with the intent of provoking them, you need to voluntarily submit yourself into a psychiatric ward. Because you are in need of some intense and serious mental help.
10. # 4 if you are referning to the murder of two young people
Avi ,   Israel   (04.22.10)
Then i suggest you get help as you are obviously a sick individual. If you call marching for our basic human rights in the year 2010 they you are obviously tottaly ignorant and clueless about real life. WHy is it i pay taxes, serve in the army yet i am denied my basic human rights, a right which hetrosexual people take for granted.
11. y did they send to the religious
ghostq   (04.22.10)
members invitations, they r looking for troubles.
12. to #9 in democracy people have
ghostq   (04.22.10)
liberty to march, much like the gay community got the right to march, so people with different political point of view, on the same breath straight can claim that since the majority of population is straight than gay shouldn't march there according to your logic, if gay need the right to march than they should let others do the same. that is democracy. even before the law, if the gov let one march and not the other than that called discrimination.
13. Here we go with Leviticus 18:22 again...
Ariel ,   São Paulo - Brazil   (04.22.10)
Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality who dispenses advice to people who call in to her radio show. Recently, she said that as an observant Orthodox Jew, she holds that homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet. Dear Dr. Laura: Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them. a) When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them? b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her? c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians? e) I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself? f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? g) Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here? h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die? i) I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves? j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev. 24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14) I do look forward to your enlightenment regarding the questions that puzzle me. Then I shall pass them along to others who may appreciate your moral leadership. Sincerely.
14. good for you!
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (04.22.10)
It is good to see that there are politicians that know that there are limits and good taste (not to mention Torah morals!!)
15. Talula # 9 Please tell me your secret
Sagi   (04.22.10)
I many times wish to post with the forceful words and phrases that you use but am certain they would not publish. I have indeed submitted once or twice certain comments which were rejected. It seems to work for you. I am of the opinion that freedom of speech is so important and must only preclude profanities and baseless slander. On this particular subject Horowitz is wrong for the reasons I stated above, other than that he has complete freedom as far as I am concerned just like every other citizen as long as he stays within the bounds of the law, which homosexuals usually do, which again is more than I can say for the ultra orthodox and their shenanigans. As for psychiatric wards are concerned I am sure that religion harbors many more candidates than the homo lesbian community.
16. 'shocked and amazed' said the Taliban head!

lildoobird ,   Jerusalem   (04.22.10)
WHAT? Check any western statistic you like. Suicide is higher per capita amongst the gay community than any other community by more than 2 fold. Check it out! So is drug and alcohol abuse as well as std's. As a gay person, I can tell you, thanks for your support but know what you are talking about before you try to push someone else in a corner.
18. # 15
Sagi   (04.22.10)
I take note of what you say but I should like to explain. The reasons for suicide in the gay community are ones of remorse, feelings of guilt, complexes about being social misfits, unhappiness, solitude and so forth. My comment about religious people being candidates for the funny farm is my standard fayre. I am very serious when I say this because it is my considered opinion that deep religious feelings and beliefs and behaviour are a manifestation of a psychotic state of mind. I did not invent the saying, "he's got religion on the brain". Normal human beings do not produce stigmata nor do they observe statues weep, neither do they walk about dressed as clowns. I refer to Rabbis and Bishops and Cardinals et al. To me they are all the same, doing, thinking, acting and perpetrating nothing more and nothing less than nonsense. Just my opinion.
19. Move to san francisco. whats next? sanctioned adult incest?
Jae ,   Lynn US   (04.22.10)
these loud mouthed broad-brushed generalizing folk dont get it. Once you crack the dam of natural relationships, pandoras sexual box is opened. has anyone noticed things like AIDS Herpes, climidia, syphillis, genital warts, etc?? go back to the Torah. dont impose unkosher morals on others
20. Good Grief
Robert Fales ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (04.22.10)
Most of you people are nuts. Thank you #13 you are the only one making sense. As a new implant from the states I seriously wonder why the US bother to protect a group of such crack pots. You people are nuts!!!
21. MK Katz: Cancel 'gay pride meeting' at Knesset
Shocked   (04.22.10)
I am shocked of what is going in Israel. Coruption in all sectors of society. From the (ex) President, to the (ex) Prime Minister, Ministers in Prison, they were, they are now, and there will be later, ( I hope not)and down till the least. Israel is not light to the nations, but shame to its own people, and the nations are stunned of what is going in Israel. I am sorry for God who is called the God of Israel. He must delete twice this name, and call Himself God of the rightious. In this case Israel will be out of anything that is God's. Shame, Shame on such country. I am shocked and terrified, what will God do to this country. Another exile!! God forbid, have mercy, do not look at any body in this country, please God, look at Moshe
22. Israel's Mullahs
Ari Ben Canaan   (04.22.10)
How can the likes of Katz honestly make the case against radical Islamic fascism, when he himself is no different than Ayatollah Khomeini? The ONLY case Israel is able to make to the international community -- which always looks for an excuse to hate on Israel -- is that it is the sole DEMOCRACY in the Middle East. Unlike the Arabs, who cry and cry about "occupation and human rights" Israel is a tolerant nation, providing equal rights to women, minorities, and yes, GAYS. They are Jews, and they are human beings. By the looks of Mr. Katz, I would argue that perhaps he is struggling with his own sexuality on the inside. Idiots.
23. MK Katz and gay rights activism
Dora Flam ,   Rehovot, Israel   (04.23.10)
"Do you begin to see, then , what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery and torment, a world of trampling upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself. Progress in our world will be progress toward more pain." From the famous novel on the future of mankind 1984 by George Orwell
