1. Will never happen...
Danny   (04.26.10)
Look at Gaza, Israel will end up with the worst of both worlds. Palestinians will continue to claim they are "occupied" and Israel will continue to have responsibility with not rights.
2. According to a former head of Israel’s Foreign Affairs ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.26.10)
According to a former head of Israel’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee,Dr. Yuval Steinitz: For any foreseeable future I do not see… any possibility to leave Judea and Samaria or even part of it. [A] Palestinian state in Judea and Samaria would bring about Israel’s demise…Such a Palestinian state would …immediately become an outpost for Iran. The only reason Kassam rockets [have] not been fired at the center of the country or at Ben-Gurion International Airport was because Israel [has] a military presence in the West Bank (Judea and Samaria-ed.).”As to a Palestinian state : http://xrl.us/berwte
3. A “Palestinian state”
Ron B. ,   Lod   (04.26.10)
Under the 1933 Montevideo Treaty, a state must satisfy four specific requirements: It must have a permanent population, a defined territory, a government, and the capacity to enter into peaceful relations with other states. The Palestinian Authority under Abbas does not satisfy any one of these requisites. While it has “permanent residents,” it has also a large portion of unsettled refugees. And it certainly does not have “a defined territory” as evidenced by its official maps. Its display of all of Western Palestine is indicative of its intentions to undermine the Jewish State. As to a “government,” Abbas is running a gang rather than an acceptable government; it lacks legitimacy, as large portions of the Palestinians do not accept him as the leader. The fourth criterion is absolutely clear- it lacks the capacity to live in peace with its neighbor – Israel. To paraphrase Dean Acheson’s words: being “inoffensive” towards a Palestinian terrorist state would destroy the oldest, most vibrant democracy in the Middle East as explained at: http://xrl.us/berwte
4.  no he doesn't
ghostq   (04.26.10)
since palestinian structure is one way street, meaning there aren't any products, and donation money and forign poor in, they know once they will get independence the money will stop, they want to keep the situation as is want to eat the cake and have it whole. doesn't work that way, not many jobs can be created in the WB, and it's mostly desert soil not natural resorces either, agriculture wise it's very low mainly for house consumption. it's one well fair entity who can't work not just want to.
5. Who cares what Fayyad wants?
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (04.26.10)
Give the Gaza Strip to Egypt and the West Bank to Jordan and let them take care of their brethren.
6. "Israel" should allow his trained army to liberate Jerusalem
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.26.10)
"Israel" should also allow Fayyad trained army to liberate Jerusalem ,the State will also need to its capital, have to not ignore this important issue...Palestine had its own currency before 1948, but since "Israel's establishment over Palestine, that money was abolished. ....I wonder to know if you will allow us to get our own currency, this is a real dream for us, and also do not forget that we dream of our own airport as well you Mr.Trengo, as usual, ignore the systemic and perpetual economic hindrances imposed upon the Palestinian economy by the" "Israeli"occupation ... The World Bank has identified paralytic effects of "Israeli policies" on the Palestinian economy We are confident that Palestine is coming, to be a beacon for the Middle East, but we also know that this requires a very long time not only two years, as Dr. Salam Fayyad expected
7. Fayyad surely has the Palestinian Dinar up his sleeves
Nour ,   Palestine فلسطين   (04.26.10)
and is waiting for the right time to announce it. The author is oversimplifying matters and makes sweeping conclusions before doing his homework - as usual. A currency is legal tender by an issuer. In a globalized economy, this currency would be worthless if not recognized by the international community. Even if Fayyad rolls out the Palestinian Dinar today, what guantees that Palestine's largest trading partner i.e. Israel would recognize the currency, which is a symbol of sovereignty? Fayyad has a well-paced and logical and workable plan towards proclamation of independence over the entire West Bank including East Jerusalem. This brings up the question: Where would the Palestinian Dinar be used? Is Fayyad ready for an embarassing Israeli refusal to recognize the currency in the event it is circulated in say East Jerusalem the future Palestinian capital? Would Israel today, given the status quo, seize the notes there?
8. Palestinian currency ?
Sagi   (04.26.10)
Make no mistake. Even if one is created, and a Central Bank is set up, the Israeli shekel and the Jordanian Dinar and the US Dollar will be the most used form of tender, with the US Dollar taking first place.
9. overlooking a key fact
Dawood ,   London   (04.26.10)
They already have "their own" currency. All property related taxes and charges in the West Bank are paid in Jordanian Dinars. It's compulsory. I have the receipts from last year's municpal charges on my Bethlehem property. (also FYI the ATM on Manger Square dispenses JD not Shekels) Issuing a Palestian Dinar / Pound / whatever will require a revaluation/resettlement of all property in Palestine to avoid massive arguments. That process has actually already started, under Fayaad's orders So yes he is working for independence, he's just doing it quietly, step by step, a very un-Palestinian way of operating - he must have learnt it in America.
10. To 5: I partially agree with you
Avi Trengo   (04.26.10)
Gaza is Egypt. West bank in parts (including Um Ek Fahem, Taiybe ) should go back to Jordan. over all it should be split according to: Areas in which Israelis live in - should be annexed to Israel the rest over 60% (+ land swap) should go to Jordan
11. pal state
eporue ,   europe   (04.26.10)
nothing has to be perfect from day one, and most likely, if they dont vandalize around the country when they not get "east jerusalem as their capital", a lot of money will flow to "palestine" from intl sources for support. regarding economy the west bank might be a quite good spot for tourism. it has a lot of interesting sites especially for christians, and its location between israel, jordan, egypt is quite interesting. but for this, there shouldnt be any headlines regarding terrorists, captured gilads etc...also things like naming the administration building after the mobile-phone-terrorist is a bit unlucky...
12. #6 Salma, Palestine
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (04.26.10)
You want to run your own state and all your children learn in school is the hatred against the Jews? You must be kidding.
13. to #6 before 1948 jews also had jerusalem
ghostq   (04.26.10)
in 1948-1964 the city was under Jordan ruling, jordan conquered it and the was nachlat simion neighborhood in 1898 on east jerusalem, further more the old askenazi jew synagogue exist in the old city since the 17th century. as for pali economy what economy? without forign donation you got nothing, Israel and jorden sell you your basic needs. like electricity and phone lines. the only thing you realy manifacture is waste cause there is no orgenize sawage system, or wast disposal services.
14. to #7 weird Dinar is also the curency of jordan.
ghostq   (04.26.10)
:)
15. :: Palestinians do not want a 'viable economy'...
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (04.26.10)
...they want the *freedom* to maintain a 'viable economy'! Frankly I think it is amazing that the Palestinians have maintained any form of economy with the Israeli boot on their necks. This nonsense by Israel that it has a 'serious interest' in the Palestinian economy is ridiculous and at best is a lame ploy to create an impression that if Palestinians have a 'viable economy' they are 'happy' under Israeli occupation. The Palestinians do not want a 'viable economy' under Israeli occupation they want a viable economy that is free of Israel control. As it stand all Palestinian imports/exports (as well as freedom of movement/etc) are monitored and approved/denied by Israel thus if the Palestinians had the 'best economy in the world!' Israel could turn it off at a moments notice. Let the Palestinians look after their own economy and let Israel look after implementing its end of the Obama's peace plan. The Palestinian economy will be just dandy after Israel ends it brutal occupation of the Palestinian People, relinquishes their land and pays billions in compensation for over 60 years of hell. Of course going forward if Israel refuses to withdraw from all the remaining Palestinian territories and refuses to recognize the fully sovereign modern state of Palestine then the Palestinian and Israeli economies will merge under a one state solution.
16. #5 #10 so Judea and Samaria is a myth
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.26.10)
thought that the Palestinian West Bank is part of the land of the Jews so you recognize that Judea and Samaria is a myth in the imagination of some of you, you do not know what you want ,we do and this is very good
17. The Arabs do not want a state. They want to use the Jews
dan ,   usa   (04.26.10)
They want to subjugate the Jews. A prosperous, powerful Jewish state next to another failed Arab entity does nothing for the Arab pride and their belief in superiority of Islam.
18. Palestinians want FREEDOM then .. whatever is their problem
Yosef ,   Palestine   (04.26.10)
19. #16 Of course Judea/Samaria are myths
Nour ,   Palestine   (04.26.10)
Otherwise why did the original Zionist settlers settle the coast and not the hinterland? The fact that the majority of Israelis regard the territory as "West Bank" and not the Judea/Samaria song proves beyond any doubt that even the Kibbutz they established as part of their colonization activities are illegal and illegitimate. That is another discussion in any case...
20. to #16 not a myth there r coins from that era
ghostq   (04.26.10)
roman coins in ancient Hebrew who call the place by it's name. this coin say jerusalem is holy, it's in ancient hebrew. means jerusalem is holy. in ancient Hebrew. this is the old sekel that is y Israeli use NIS, cause it's new adition of this one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Half_Shekel.jpg enjoy :)
21. to #19 the samaratons say other wise :)
ghostq   (04.26.10)
otherwise they wouldn't be called samaratons. very nice people. and kibutz is socialist idea, since they took the new idea of Karl Marx and imliment it, very creative, indeed, you see kibutz is a village that basicaly claim that no member got it's own property and everyone is totaly equal, that belong to the village, and everyone work for everyone, the parents don't raise their children, there is children house for that, cause a child belong to the village not to his parent, the members r farmers and scolars in the same time, but above all everyone r equall the down size you don't have your own property, and those women got some mouth on them, I love their honesty but have merchy on me I am only... never mind. you might learn from it,
22. # 20
n.d   (04.26.10)
Palestinian Money, Even In 1949 http:\\saidoff.spaces.live.com/
23. to #22 :) the link was broken and jews
ghostq   (04.26.10)
were also called palestina residences, giggle if you believe the brits who invented the pine apples(not pine and not apple, they disrupted manny names), anyway the entire mess start here, with brits, you see on pound palestina there r thre languages, hebrew Arabic and Englisch, the hebrew say plestina EI means palestina erez Israel=land of Israel, while the arabic on the note say only palestina and also Englisch, you have to understand that the brits when it was convinient satisfy the Israeli palestinian(yes jews were also called palestinian) and when it was convinient they used palestina, double role, how ever to the arab they use to call arabs the duality the double role they played is the root of the problem. so you see David Ben Gorion was Israeli palestina residence and many other zionist people, that is how the Brits gave certificats. in the militery arena also the duality dvide and conquer was mainly brit policy, too much divide and too much conquer(they did the same thing to India and pakistan there it's worse cause they r the same race) I don't know what propeganda you being brain washed but in order for curency to be offical people currancy it was must be printed by gov bank, 95% of thos nots were printed by jewish British banks in Tell Aviv or in jerusalem. :) trust me I did my research.
24. #16 Water-tight argument about the word "Palestine"
Logic ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
Isn't it funny that the word "Palestine" (or in Arabic, "Filistine") is a foreign term imported by the European Imperialist Romans? That word is completely, 100% non-native to the region, unlike Judea, Samaria, and Israel, which are all aboriginal terms. Look it up in a real history book and stop watching PLO/ Hamas TV.
25. Palestinians should pay Israel ?
Nurah ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
For what? Losing there land? Occupation? Deportation. Demolisation? Meshugana
26. #6 - Liberate Jerusalem?
William ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
You mean - "continue the ethnic cleansing by Arabs that started in 1948". Sorry, but last I checked "ethnic cleansing" is still a war crime, and the theft of Jewish property must be addressed before any final border agreement can be enacted, essentially placing a "Palestinian" capital in Ramallah, not Jerusalem.
27. #7 - Currency not based on intl acceptance, Nour
William` ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
It's based on the strong cash reserves and solid infrastructure to back it up. Israel's shekel is not accepted by any Arab country and several Muslim countries, yet it exists. Conversely, Zimbabwe's currency is accepted by the Intl community but no one wants to deal in it as it's basically worthless. Besides history and logic, you've now shown your ignorance in basic economics. Care to share your knowledge of the human body and basic physics? I could use a laugh this Monday.
28. #14 - so is the flag the PA flies
William ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
Everything with the PLO/PA is a mirror of Jordan.
29. #15 - "freedom to maintain a viable economy"
William ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
Really? They had that in 1999 with the fastest growing economy in the world and gave that up on the off-chance to kill a few Jews and immorally gain concessions under their terrorist leader. If, say Zimbabwe or Haiti, had the same opportunities the "Palestinians" had in 1999 you can be sure they wouldn't have pissed them away so easily.
30. #16 - "judea and samaria a myth"
William ,   Israel   (04.26.10)
Except that these names and the land they relate to can be found in writings dating back before the time of Jesus... before the Roman-given name of "Palestine".... before the illegal invasion by Arab murderers from the SA Peninsula... before the term "Palestinians" were given to a group of illegal Arab economic migrants in 1964.... Yes, this "myth" came a long time before your myths, but not surprising since your history books only start in 1967.
