This could still be a meteor. It is not the first time one is reported as hot when it landed. There are a few tyes of metal that when burning produce their own oxidizing chemicals to sustain fire. Not all meteors are gas. The can become molten metal and have been witnessed as burning when they land. A magnisium fire is an example of a metal that continues to burn even submersed in water. Could it be a plane part? Maybe the port authority should see if any planes were flying overhead and they should undergo mechanical inspections. Time and testing will prove what it is.
