1. Keep the file closed
Resistor   (04.30.10)
...and let us all get on with our lives.
2. because German officials protected Eichmann
jerry   (04.30.10)
for years in the 50s and this is so shameful so Merkel doesn´t want it to be publicized.
3. #2, Jerry: I think that was the old Germany that hadn't ...

entirely accepted their full reponsibility for thewar and holocaust. To many sympatizers and besides the American predecesor to the CIA was protecting certain Nazi's for scientific reasons and future intelligence reasons. Also the Catholic church had a role in protecting Nazi's after the was for whatever reason. Germany avails Israel of some of its most advanced submarine technolgy, as part of an order a sub or two were actually a gift. The German government seems to realize it's long term commitment to the State of Israel. To tell you the truth, I'd trust Merkel or a future German chancellor before I trusted Obama.
4. Open The Files . . . Then Let's Move On
emanon ,   USA   (05.01.10)
For the sake of history, make the files public. As the Bard said, "The Truth will out". It will all become public at some time. Might as well be now.
5. ODESSA
Alois Brunner   (05.01.10)
It will expose ODESSA and those involved, who facilitated the escape of the Nazi perpetrators of the Holocaust.
6. W- German Civil Service was run by Nazis after War for years

Chris   (05.01.10)
the files probably contain evidence of how Eichman escaped at the end of World War II.
8. Make them public.
David ,   Hartford USA   (05.01.10)
For too long Nazi sympathizers have remained safely hidden. In their 'golden' years, let their family and friends see what they did during and after the war. Letting them 'die in peace' is not fair to to the MILLIONS of people who died in agony and wretchedness. Open the files, let the dirt fall where it may. Time for Germany to let the world see the real dirty laundry. Then, at last, we can put the war to rest. Until that happens, Germany will have the stigma of the war forever. I hope the German PM does the right thing. I wonder what her father and grandfather did during the war??
9. Files
Dave ,   Bs.Aires-Argentina   (05.01.10)
I remember that, here in Argentina, at the end of WWII, when I was a child, there was an "off-the-record" small talk that the Nazi Officials that were in a runaway from Europe, had been helped by our Military Government at that time , the West Germany, the USA, the Holy See and Spain , but with a fierce opposition of the Soviet Union. That help was delivered through the ODESSA Nazi Organization. As it's a sense of shame for the Governements of the countries involved, it's not strange that the Germans try to hold the Files, to not create a Diplomatic havoc with the countries listed above. I think it will be better to disclose the files, then clean the dirt with a full diplomatic work at world level, and finally put and end to this delicate issue, to let the people of all the involved countries to live in peace of mind. Remember the old advice "Sooner or later the Truth emerges". BTW, I agree with # 3, in this particular time of History, Israel should trust more in the Germans that in the Administration of Barack Hussein Obama. . .
