buddy ,   sf california   (05.04.10)
are you self hating. What kind of thinking is this. 1 should not question these things. Only hear and follow other peoples thinking that they feed us through the tv. Stop this non sense immediatly.
32. Missed the big one, Jeff (#25)
Jon ,   Philadelphia   (05.04.10)
A double standard is a situation in which one applies a different behavior or attitude to two instances of the same situation. However, you missed a big difference, Jeff. Iran has signed the NPT, whereas Israel has not. The NPT signatories without nuclear weapons promise not to develop them. If Iran drops out of the NPT somehow, then so be it (and they will have to face the consequences). However, comparing a country that makes such a promise (Iran) with one that does not (Israel) is not a double standard.

Israel is FIGHTING for survival the wrong way..BY FORCE...It will be easier for it to live in peace..if it really wants peace... DAVID..Israel does not want PEACE and will never go for it..PEACE does hot go with its long term or short term existence strategies..SO... It will keep its WAR MONGERING activities..It can not live in this region any other way..

here in Canada, is nothing wrong with the name Abdurrahman as hacivat , Cohen or whatever . Grow up from your racism.
35. #26
George ,   Canada   (05.04.10)
If we assume that you are right and there is one billion muslim hostile toward Israel , have you asked yourself the simple question why? Is it coming like that from God with no reason? Jew lived in peace with Arabs for centuries so far and by the way the only places in Earth where jew lived untouched were among Arabs. Find the answer in your hostile and aggressive actions toward Palestinian first and stop the land stealing and everyday killing of Palestinian . Then see if these nations are really hostile.
36. Jeff 25 excellent post

Marty ,   Toronto, Canada   (05.04.10)
Jack Layton and the NDP are proud of you! Have you picked up your charter membership in the Naomi Klein fan club yet? Should we prepare lodging for you when you come to Toronto during the G-20 to protest?
38. To No.17 Guten
Ahmed ,   Beirut   (05.04.10)
Have you ever asked yourself why as stated in your comment that all the Muslims in the world have shown hostility towards Israel. You speak as if history does not exist. Israel has ever since its creation been at war with its neighbors for the sole purpose of taking the Arab land of Palestine. Go and read some history and learn why. It has come to be these days that no one cares to know what has happened to the Palestinians since 1948. Do you not ever think that these are people too who have rights that Israel has refused to acknowledge regardless of the UN resolutions in place. Man wake up and think again.
39. 9, there are manyCanadians like George
Dany ,   Toronto   (05.04.10)
9, where's your proof? I want FACTS; You can INVENT anything you want... How many? How do you know that there many Canadians? Read in Wikipedia about Ann Coutler: "...a polemicist who likes to stir the pot..."
40. 13, George is correct
Dany ,   Toronto   (05.04.10)
What compliance are you talking about, when it can't even be monitored? Wher's the compliance in the secret instalations which can't be monitored? Your FACTS ? !
41. George, you are confused
Eyal ,   US   (05.04.10)
The Iranian facilities is not monitored 27/7 days a week, what are you on? It's funny how you are disputing what the whole world thinks, or at least Westernized countries think. Iran is building a bomb, so stop the denials and the propaganda, it's not working. The time line predicted is less than 1 year. Everyone knows Iran is building a bomb, just like everyone knows Israel has the bomb. Why don't you ask your Prime Minister Harper (good man) and see what he thinks? Israel didn't sign the NPT, so no one has the right to inspect it and with enemies like the 22 Arab States, yeh, I think Israel need the bomb, otherwise (as per Iran), Israel will be wiped from the map, or not.
42. no12
michael ,   Sydney,Australia   (05.04.10)
Hakan - I believe the monies have been well spent. Your Swedish delegation together with most of the others fall a sleep, anyhow. This little man with big mouth will not last long as his nation people hate his guts.
43. #17 mark, do you mean if Iran quit of the NPT
avi   (05.04.10)
they will have the right to own the nuke? i think Iran will do that with pleasure
44. #26 and you didn't mention the Palestinians
avi   (05.04.10)
" There are over 1 BILLION Muslims who share the same hostility towards Israel" do you think muslims go to sleep and wake up in the morning saying " let's kill some jews " you the innocents forgot to mention there is 5 million muslim suffering under your occupation since you own the nuke to defend yourself they have the right to defend their brothers
45. #23 iran shaking? A country who is afraid will not bring
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (05.04.10)
Its entire uranium stock pile to surface, taunting their enemies to attack(something iran did 3 months ago). A country who is afraid, wont expand its nuclear program. A country who is afraid will not continue to arm its proxies to the teeth. Now tell me,what exactly has israel been doing during all this time?? I'll tell you what: More blah blah blah about bombing iran. Same old rhetoric for the last 9 years or so. While they have all that, you haven't even had the courage to put your threats into action. And don't tell me the US wont allow it(what ever happened to the sovereignty of the state of israel??)
46. #23 iran is the one scared?Hardly
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (05.04.10)
A country who is scared wont taunt and tease its enemy(in this case israel) to attack 2- A country which is scared does not expand its nuclear program. 3- A country which is scared will not continue to assist its proxies. And what have we heard and seen from the israelis over the past 9 years?? Nothing but daily empty threats about attacking iran, and not one single muscle being moved. So now tell me,does that sound scared to you?? I think you need to redefine the meaning of fear for yourself and then take a better look.
47. Actually, Israel never threatened anyone with its "arsenal"
William ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Infact, it routinely refuses to confirm or deny whether it has nukes. How does one maintain ambiguity but then prove it through threats? They can't - A-mad's accusations are just rhetoric, as usual. However, Clinton made a good point. Iran is still the only member of the NPT that is in violation of the NPT. Iran, even recently, stated they would aid anyone who wanted nuclear technology once they got it. I seem to remember that this was also against the NPT. Again, a reason why this madman doesn't need even peaceful nuke technology.
48. #7 - if police have guns, why not criminals?
William ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Sorry Peter, your argument follows a naive logic. One cannot simply be allowed to do something because another can. Do you pretend you're on a school playground?? In basic law, everything is about intent. A person can own a gun if they are responsible and need it for protection. Another person who is psychotic and threatens people does not deserve one just because another has it. Israel does not threaten others with nukes, it does not threaten to wipe States of the map, it does not routinely slaughter their opposition en masse or aid terror proxies across the world. Plus, any nuke capability is only kept as deterrence. A-mad is just made that the deterrence still exists and wants it erased to help Arabs continue their genocide from 1948. Considering their history, I don't think any Arab should have nukes...they can't even be trusted with a simple gun.
49. #13 - I think post #9 says it all
William ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Breaks your heart that Jews demand the same human rights of self-determination as everyone else.
50. #19 - Really? And what of the hidden facility at Qom?
William ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Hard to monitor a place 24 hours a day when it was constantly hidden until an asylum seeking spilled the beans. This is just one of the many, many violations Iran has of the NPT it signed. As for the "political decision" from Iran.... first, do you know that for a fact? I didn't know you were a member of the Iranian Parliament. Second, doesn't most high-level decisions in the country get decided by the Ayatolleh and NOT by the parliament? It was the Ayaltolleh that OK'd the slaughter of the opposition and the death of those arrested, when the parliament voted against such harsh measures. BTW - it was Israel that strongly urged AGAINST attacking Iraq, and it was Saddam himself that boasted about his WMD collection (to deter Iran, not invite US attack). He admitted as such before his death. But don't let those facts wash away your very biased hatred. I know it keeps you warm on those cold, Canadian nights.
51. #21 - why no pressure on India, Pakistan to sign NPT?
William ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
Why all the pressure on Israel, who has never acknowledged nukes let alone threatened to use them even during dire points in history.... but people like you remain silent on Pakistan and India, who went to war many times in the past, AND Pakistan and wildly unstable and full of terrorist groups? Please enlighten us of your twisted, hate-filled "logic".
52. #25 - You already mentioned point of extreme merit
William ,   Israel   (05.04.10)
If they don't sit well with you, why should anyone else care? You're looking for an answer to meet your own perspective, biases, whatever... but at the end of the day, Iran is a major supporter of terror around the world and this IS proven many times over. Nevermind the fairness of who gets what and double-standards. It boils down to intent. Iran DOES use these proxies to do their bidding in order to cut ties of the act back to them. Hence the argument many give "Iran has never attacked another country". The bottom line is - if Iran went through the process to achieve peaceful nuke technology like Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia are doing, they wouldn't be in this mess. As for Israel's nukes - let's just say Israel is the only country on this planet that has been threatened with extinction since its birth and you know it. Iran never has been. Even India and Pakistan never have been - and they have nukes and went to war many times.
53. David #24
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (05.04.10)
Actually the family's real name is Liman Garagos. First one is Greek, second Armenian. Must be intermarriage like in the case of Prosperity Preacher (read self enrichment scam) Benny Hin.
54. Jeff #25, a shorter answer to your elaborate wonderings
Genuine Tosefta ,   Tveria   (05.04.10)
For tiny Israel this subject is a matter of survival in the Middle East as a Jewish State not only visavis Iran but also a plethora of huge enemies inside Israel and on its borders who all want invade it and share the spoils among themselves. Iran doesn't have such needs, they do it because they want to undermine other countries in the region and want to feel immune from retaliation. It is as simple as that. Now you or others put this moral argument into international legal terms. We don't care what logical dilemmas you have or how you legally frame it, just do it because we want to survive.
55. ISRAEL NUKES, good thing they THREATEN iRANt
dav zee ,   NYC USA   (05.04.10)
thank the universe! It's what keeps the nutballs at bay!
56. Dear Jeff, 25. What are you smoking? Israel's weapons . .
Stewart ,   U.S.A.   (05.04.10)
are not aimed at you in the U.S. nor are they giving materials to terrorist to make dirty bombs to use in the U.S. If you can't tell the difference between Iran and Israel when it comes to nuclear weapons, I doubt you really understand anything about the issue.
57. Dear George, 21. Why should they. They are for defense!
Stewart ,   U.S.A.   (05.04.10)
What's the big secret? Anybody who doesn't think Israel have nukes as a last resort or thinks they don't need them is delussional. Do you think the Russians or Americans open theirs completely if at all? I don't think India signed the treaty. North Korea told the U.N. and U.S. to leave whenever their regime felt like it. The U.N. inspectors are a joke. P.S. If it wasn't for America's nuclear umbrella, Canada would have been part of the Soviet Union a long time ago.
58. #27 Just because they had them before the NPT does not mean
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (05.04.10)
That they should not get rid of them after signing the treaty. That's what the world is asking countries like iran,ja?to stop producing bombs. While the same countries who are a signatory to the NPT have those weapons. It's as simple as that. In my opinion ,you are trying with ruthlessly to justify everything.
59. @William. Ah so now I get it. israel is now a cop in our
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (05.04.10)
World? Get real!!!. As stated before,if the very countries who have these weaposn AND are signatories to the NPT ,countries like iran will also go for them. Now I'm pretty sure countries such as the US and etc.(that also includes israel) can lead the way as an example by dismantling their nukes and then,we can talk about disarming iran.
60. #29 Right Ron,"Israel" never threatend, but working directly
