1. Another Gaza in the making.
Shajan ,   India.   (05.04.10)
They want to make the living conditions of Arabs in West Bank in par with their Gazan brothers. Seal off all the "A" and "B" areas for a start; soon they will start tunneling. The fine is too much. To pay that kind of a fine, the Pali arrested needs to work for an Israeli settlement. Visionary leaders.
2. the palistinians are punishing thier own people
(05.04.10)
poductuve citizens who work to provide for their family. they don't steal, beg or ask for handouts, they are simply making a living, and yet they will be find and jailed as opposed to terrorists. what message are you sending to them and their children??? The world should be up in arms, and we the jews will simply employ jewish workers.
3. Actually, it's Palis that won't be economically viable
Eitan ,   Chicago   (05.04.10)
When West Bank Arabs lose their settlement-related jobs, and when Israel demands the VAT payments it's due from the PA, we may see the West Bank Arab population drop even faster from its actual current level of around 1.5 million. These people aren't fools - they'll go where the jobs are.
4. More to come against Settlers
Salim ,   Ramalla   (05.04.10)
I can assure yoj all, more mesures to be imposed against settlements, wait to see..
5. From the perspective of a Westbank
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.04.10)
Palestinian state, Salaam Fayaad makes absolute sense in his attempt to establish a Palestinian economy not dependent on the state of Israel. In addition, it does not serve the self-confidence of the Palestinian population if they are so beholden to jobs from settler enterprises. From the Israeli perspective, we should not be so dependent on Palestinian labour as it establishes two classes of people, one the manager and the other the trademen and labourer. In spite of the difficulties of finding jobs in Israel, Israelis either refuse or are not capable of doing skilled and unskilled construction jobs. It is difficult to find Jewish construction workers. We also bring in too many foreign workers. In the early days of Israel, we did and were capable of doing all these jobs. We do not do ourselves any good by establishing a class of foreign and Arab workers. People who want construction on settlements ought to reveal their much hallowed patriotism by paying living wages on construction sites so that Jews can take these jobs. As it is, Arab workers require a good deal less because their cost of living is so much less.
6. I hate to think how long...
Paul ,   USA   (05.04.10)
the lines are going to be, at the local PA unemployment office !
7. WOW,WOW AND WOW!!!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (05.04.10)
100x1 to plalis in this one! KOL HAKAVOD! KOL HAKAVOD! Just get out plalis, just get out! They are doing us a big favor since we are too lazy to take a so important decision without this beautiful push! WOW!Good, very good! Let´s put our own hands in the dough or look for helthier alternatives in the direction of the progress of Israel as a whole, from " settlements" to everywhere in our Land! Build Israel, build everywhere!Go ahead!!!
8. # 3 .. that's why .. after the Greenback ..
Jo ,   Chicago   (05.04.10)
9. Palestinian Labor
Chimo ,   USA   (05.04.10)
They only work in the settlements because that's where the jobs are. If the PA cared about it's people, they would create jobs for them. idiots like Salim brag about measures to be employed aganst the settlements, instead of offering constructive advice for fellow Palestinians about where to find employment in Ramallah or Nablus (Shechem). so now the PA will arrest those just trying to feed their families. How brilliant!!! (sarcasm)
10. next thing you know
(05.04.10)
hamas will be kidnapping PA soldiers in exchange for the work prisoners.
11. Thank you, PA, for making our factories safer
(05.04.10)
just don't come running back when you're just as poor as your Gazan not so near neighbors.
12. #5, give me 5
roli ,   miami beach, USA   (05.04.10)
I'm also in favour of making an opportunity out of a ridiculous blunder. If there is one thing that has stayed with me from the time I lived in Israel and worked with Kibbutzim(dati and hiloni), it is "You are not the job that you do, you are who you are". This would be a good time to make a universal choice draft in Israel for national service or the IDF. National service would be mostly construction and ecological maintenance; with a hybrid crane, bulldozer, truck, etc.. division to dwarf the tanks, because the IDF will not be getting weaker, just more Arab divisions. In poor areas of Israel, including the settled parts, development is the barrier. Irony is the way to peace.
13. Good,but what about the Fatah politician who sold materials?
Ivan ,   Haifa   (05.04.10)
A member of Fatah in the parliament and also business man sold to Israel the material to build the wall, won´t he be punished?,the punishment its only against poor palestinians without business and without political career?.
14. Right on #5!
marvls   (05.04.10)
You got it exaclty right!
15. I hope the PA doesn't make them serve their time in
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (05.04.10)
Israeli prisons, that would be too much of a picnic, and expensive picnic.
16. Remember 1948 war..
Memories   (05.05.10)
when all the Pals following the orders of their IMAM to leave their home, WRONG. If the workers dont come the work, there are thousands of Thais taking their place, cheaper and much better .
17. Excellent and creative ideas, "roli".
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.05.10)
National service could be utilized to teach Israeli practical skills. My son-in-law, who does renovation and construction work in the settlements, at one time hired his older brother, a Chassid (Breslover) and his two teenage sons (my son-in-law's nephews) to help him work on some medium term construction projects. Both sons, really not cut out for the world of Torah study and both beginning to start down the path of juvenile delinquency (not so unusual amongst the Chassidic youths), have both since joined the IDF.
18. BUY BUY. WE'LL MISS YA... NOT !
earl ,   tel aviv   (05.05.10)
More boomerang tactics from the Palestinians. Is there no end?
19. Unfair criticism, Chimo:
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.05.10)
Fayaad is just starting to help make things happen economically in the Westbank. His difficulties are fraught with obstructions including, but not limited to, the ongoing Palestinian political divisions, extended family feuding, lack of a stable economic base and overdependence on Israel. In time, he may prove successful. In that case, if we support an independent Palestine vis a vis a two-state solution, then we may have a true economic trading partner as well as cooperation regarding other matters such as environmental degradation, decreasing water resources and tourism projects in Samaria and Judea (Westbank) such as the proposal of a canal between bodies of water.
20. #4 - A "Pal" can be replaced by a Thai or Chinese
William ,   Israel   (05.05.10)
so the settlements will continue to grow, their products will be exported to markets for sale, and at the end of the day the unemployment rate in the WB will increase. Abbas will cry to the WTO to give more money, and the next generation of in-bred welfare recipients will be created. The question is - do you feel lucky, punk?
21. #13 - now you know why peace has slipped away
William ,   Israel   (05.05.10)
This corruption of the PA is deep and creating peace would end the gravy train. No wonder both PA and Hamas are against peace...the pay is too low and the responsibility is too high.
22. And hashem saves us from them by THEIR hand
Aryeh ,   Bat Ayin   (05.05.10)
We need to be weaned off of cheap Arab labor Jews need to learn how to get their hands dirty and do these jobs. This is a disease imposed upon us by the Maarach back in the early days of the Medina Enough Arab labor where they stuff our sewer pipes with cement or bury stinking things in our walls etc. Enough of their sabotage on the job, enough of their making lewd remarks to our women and children, enough of them spying on us and stealing when when we are not home Let them find jobs in their kfarim Wake up Jews and learn to do building, electrical work, gardening etc.Hard work and physical work is no shame, get rid of this elitist Laborite/Kadima/Meretz attitude of being intellectuals etc.
23. #4 Salim - Big talk only!
Jew ,   Yesha Israel   (05.05.10)
You are full of BS. You couln't tell us even one thing about what more is coming to settlers, except more of your big talk only?
24. Funny! Who really cares for some palis
David ,   Shilo Israel   (05.05.10)
It's a crazy world. The very people that could solve the Israeli Palestinian problem are probably those actually living near each other, without the interfering 'help' of outsiders, PA USA, UN etc. I genuinely pity the plight of some of those palis caught in between. They know that their so called pA representatives will offer them far less than Jewish settlements. Kid yourselves not...the aim of the PA is to craete a para-military force under the guise of a police force. They plan to make their own people redundant, and totally dependant upon this semi-army to wage war and die against Israel. Better let the workers bring bread onto their tables at home!
25. It is not clear to me why Israel retaliate in the same way:
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.05.10)
Arabs working inside Israel will face five years in prison and fines of up to $14,000. With this kind of "peaceful" relationships that the Arabs seek I suspect the people who will pay more will end up being the Arabs in the territories who will start moving out, seeking employment in other countries.
26. #4 yawn
Ron ,   Leiden Netherlands   (05.14.10)
Big yawn, #4. Israel is really scared now, palestinians starving themselves economically....ooooh we're shaking. What is your next promised strategy? Not working in Israel, period? Or are you returning to your primal stone-age nature of violence against men women and children again? Whatever it is...don't expect us to be impressed. You know what would be a good strategy: start building your own economy. Good luck, because history has tought us so far that palestinians do not miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
27. Doesn't this Mean There Will Be ..
Christy ,   Boston, US   (05.18.10)
.. more opportunities for Israelis in terms of work? I don't understand why this is such a bad thing? It doesn't have to be. I think the Israeli economy will be healthier with many jobs for Israeli unskilled as well as skilled laborers. On blogs where Jews are contemplating moving to Israel - the #1 concern is employment. If Arabs/Pales. are not allowed, by their own people, to fill Israeli jobs - then this should leave plenty of jobs for israelis to fill. I think Jewish people, not in Israel, would be glad to hear about job openings due to Arab/Pales. vacancies.
