It's been in the Near East and Middle East long before Arabs came there from Arabia. The only Arab thing about it is the name. As for tomato dishes like "tabbouleh" and the so-called "Arab salad" (tomatoes and cucumbers--nothing "Arab" about it), tomatoes were only brought to the Middle East in the early 19th century. These types of dishes were being consumed for centuries prior in Europe.

VERY interesting comment... but unfortunately, the reason for this is because war and sectarian division has been imposed on us for decades now, and has disabled us from advancing in our own country... liberate lebanon from iranian, syrian, french, saudi and american interests, and i promise u, lebanon will flourish again... In regard to your point number 3, the doctor's name is Michael DeBakey. But he was an American of Lebanese descent, and therefore it's arguable as to whether he would have achieved the same notoriety if he hadn't had access to American schools and medical facilities.
