31. Attack Iran and no more Israel...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (05.10.10)
...it's just that simple. Not only will such an attack fail to accomplish anything more than strengthening the resolve of the entire Iranian people against America and Israel. And then there will be the day after, and the day after that. When those gas masks turn out to be meaningless in the ensuing rocket onslaught that will change Israel forever. And the diplomatic fallout? Israel will be international toast because of the $10-15 per gallon gas in the US and the world economic meltdown brought down by Israel's greed for East Jerusalem and the rest of the illegally occupied territories. End the occupations and survive. Attack Iran and destroy Israel forever. Make the right choice, stop the daily threats, you are making Iran look right.
32. Ya'alon's pronouncement
Alex ,   Tel Aviv   (05.10.10)
Well, that settles it. Goodbye Mideast. Goodbye Israel...
33. Bruno from Haifa
Alex ,   Tel Aviv   (05.10.10)
Bruno's comment reminded me of a saying that serves well here: those whose tool is just a hammer see each and every problem as a nail.

GAYS 4 ISRAEL ,   MECCA   (05.10.10)
SIILY BOY ! The west must ALWAYS have the upper hands against Islamofascists. THE WORLD IS NOT A PRETTY PLACE- EVEN THOUGH YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONVINCE YOURSELF OF THAT. VIVA SIRAEL
35. Kick The Tires & Light The Fires!
Sherman ,   USA   (05.10.10)
If you think you can do it then go for it, however when the American people get pissed and want to hold back jet fuel and weapons for your warplanes don't say I didn't tell you so. The American people don't care about Iran or any other country. They just want cheap energy and an easy life. They are going to curse everything Israeli if energy prices double or triple and we have to fight the Iranians. War is expensive and we don't have the money anymore. American income dropped 3.6 percent to 50,000 dollars a year because of GW stupid war.
36. Able to strike, yes. But a meaningful strike?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (05.10.10)
Striking a few of Iran's nuclear sites that we know about is one thing. But what of those we don't know about? Or Iran's missile force, or those of its proxies who will be ordered to retaliate? Nor will Israel be able to take out Iran's naval forces, who will act against the Straits (constraining the oil flow) and US forces in the region. And if Israeli action costs US lives, the American people may not forgive. Finally, if anyone is hoping a strike will lead to "regime change", think again. If the IRGC is untouched, this will only strengthen the regime's hold. Face it. There is no "coalition of the willing" to confront Iran. There is only a congenital proclivity to blame Israel for the world's troubles. And if Israel sparks a regional war, there will be hell to pay. But I blame the world for putting Israel into this untenable situation.
37. While possible and tricky, the cost would be high
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (05.10.10)
The air space to fly over and refuel would be tricky to obtain since there are only 3 options. F-15s would have to be used as the first strike to take out radar and air defenses and for air support but Israel only has about 25 of them. The F-16s would be used to bomb the main targets but would have limited defenses due to carrying extra fuel and the large bomb needed to do the job. Iran has older aircraft but their missiles have good range and can be very effective unless jammed by special jamming aircraft which Israel has 3. If I was Iran I would try to take out the refueling aircraft and the jamming aircraft since they are the weakest links. Does Iran have spies near the airfields that would alert them to a large number of aircraft taking off. Can one raid do enough damage to be worth the counter attacks that are sure to follow?
38. #3 Time has come, Squirt !

39. why doesn't he send them an invitation
alan ,   texas   (05.10.10)
What team telegraphs its moves to the other side? This is just stupid. Do it and then let them beg for peace. May as well destroy Damascus and Bekaa valley as well and then take on Hamas. Threaten Saudi's and they will fall into line rapidly. They have about as much guts as the French.
40. to 24 and 35
Barney ,   USA   (05.10.10)
if USA had listened to Israel to begin with and taken note that Iran was the problem in the ME and not Iraq then we wouldn't be having this conversation. Of course, GW Bush failed to take advantage of superior Israeli intelligence and made mistakes for the USA. I think Americans would rather pay more for gas than have islamofascists blowing up everywhere in the USA. Times square failed attempt just a taste of what they want. Did you not see the arabs celebrating in the street after 9/11. What more does it take for you to realize who the enemy is and what you are fighting? OK, so you are a slow learner.
41. ray in DC, congenital?
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (05.10.10)
So you are claiming that anyone non-Jewish is born with hate for Jewish people? Do you realize how insane and paranoid that it? Listen, it's very simple. Iran's "proxies" would have no power over Israel without occupation. Internalize that fact. It is critical. Iran, without those proxies, would lose a HUGE amount of ability to interfere in Israel. An attack from Iran is simply not going to happen. The Mullahs are not insane. This whole issue can be solved by Israel following the rule of law. And that is exactly what President Obama is setting out to do. Sadly, there are many who wish to ignore that law, and then point at the other guy and say "well, he's doing it". When I say, "yeah, but they're not saying they are the world's 'shining beacon of light', and 'Chosen', and the Mid-East's 'only democracy', and 'our army is the most moral in the world'".

44. to 40: Israel ONLY problem between US & Muslims
Adam ,   USA   (05.10.10)
Before Israel occupied Muslim Palestine, US had no problem whatsoever with the mideast.
45. @Michael Hess
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (05.10.10)
What part of Lebanon is Israel occupying?
46. Israel can strike
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.10.10)
No, you can't - unless you want to use your (assumed) nuclear arsenal to blow the whole Middle East to smithereens.
47. #13
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (05.10.10)
I remember your blah, blah, blah when YNET reported that Zimbabwe was going to supply uranium to Iran...You were full of it. The next day a YNET article stated that Zimbabwe denied that it was going to happen... surprise. ..you were nowhere to be found....
48. #44 - Nobody begged America to..
Janice Cohen ,   ירושלים   (05.10.10)
befriend us. They did it out of their own free will, and can leave anytime they like. After all who is stronger America itself, or the "Zionist Lobby"? Despite the few complaints I hear on this website, I think most Americans would think twice about dumping Israel.
49. Which doctrine to prefer
sohnes ,   ludwigsburg, germany   (05.10.10)
Lots of talkbackers seem to believe in the Theories of Giulio Douhet or Bomber-Harris. They state, that one can win a war and that it's possible to break the will of civilians by bombarding them. ("to render an enemy "harmless") This has more than once proven its falsehood, turning buildings in easy-to-defend piles of rubble and stiffling resistance. A ground attack would have to follow, as science tell us nowadays, in order to achieve any enduring success. No amount of rockets can kill them all. That means attacking the - probably very upset - owners of those piles of rubble, which used 2b their houses. That means crossing territory in which tactical nuclear landmines might be buried. A somehow inconvenient feeling, a sword of Damocles.
50. Attacking Iran will never happen. Why?
Yehuda   (05.10.10)
Because America doesn't want it to happen. Iran has proxies to fight against Israel. America also has proxies, the PLO whom they saved from the Lebanon war 1982, Egypt, Jordan, S. Arabia, UK, UN and soon to be on the list will be Iran.....once they get the bomb with America's help in keeping Israel from bombing thier nuke site. With the help of Obama, Islam is on the rise.
51. Response to #6
Jake ,   USA   (05.10.10)
"So Israel can attack Iran and set back the Iranian nuke program by 1 or 2 years. Why bother?" Israel can decimate the regime, and send the nuclear weapons program to the grave. "The Iranians will activate Hezbolla and Hamas who, with Goldstone's support, will cause Israel great damage" Israel can & should retake any territory where hostile Iranian proxies are based. Such is the logical response to Iranian aggression. "as long as they just subjugate the Arab world and overthrow the Saudi apartheid regime, Israel will support them. " Or......Israel can do their Arab neighbors a favor, and eliminate the imperialist Persian regime, instead of supporting it. I sure hope no one in the Israeli government agrees with your suicidal ideas.
52. #47 do you honestly believe that just because they denied
Peter ,   Vienna-Austria   (05.10.10)
It,the deal will NOT go on?? Now tell me something, how hard is it for a country like zimbabwe who is in desperate need of cash and possibly other goods to transfer the uranium with out letting the world find out?? Just a little reminder: Even the so called companies who claim they have cut their ties with iran are doing business with the same country via lets say a place like dubai. And its pretty easy. All they need is to establish a dummy company in again a place like dubai and work via a 3rd side involved. Trust me,there is a lot you and I do not know from the events that are happening behind the scenes,ja?or do you disagree? Even the US government and its companies are doing business with iran,as stated in a report by the NY times. Or don't you remember that one either?
53. israeli strike
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston-USA   (05.10.10)
Israeli leaders are realistic enough to understand their country lacks strategic depth and main population centers are vulnerable to missiles arriving from different directions.
54. TALKBACK NUMBER 1 AND 7.

NR 1. AMEN BUT - NR 7. COULD BEE BUT - IF THOSE BOTH, DOES NOT INTEND TO SEND THIS MESSAGE TO THE US, BECAUSE OF SOME UNDERSTANDABLE CAUSES AND REASONS, THEY ARE BOTH FOOLS AND IDIOTS !!!. Arn.
55. to#26
Jennie ,   US   (05.10.10)
Your post is a clear demonstration of you being a moron yourself... Posting from London tells a lot about you and your sources of knowledge..You really need lots of therapy and education to be able to express an independent thought or opinion....
56. Iran is already in a long term war with
Steven Wilson ,   Anchorage, Alaska   (05.10.10)
it's proxies against Israel. Maybe it is about time to cut off the head of the aggressor. Sooner or later the missiles being supplied to Lebanon and Syria will fly and damage Israel. Why shouldn't Iran feel the same pain. The war is already occurring via Lebanon and Syria.
57. Adam 44
R ,   Israel   (05.10.10)
"US had no problem whatsoever with the mideast"? That's laughable. In every muslim country and every country with a large muslim minority, muslims are fighting... hindus, christians, buddhists, and each other. Especially each other. 40 years ago, who even heard much about it? How do you explain bombings in Indonesia, Spain, and Algeria? Suggestion: Look up. On the underside of your rock, you will see a sticker saying "push here'. Apply force and hopefully rock will roll away, so that you can crawl out from under it.
58. to#19-Sorry! my post is for # 26

59. MOSHE YA'ALON WAKES UP
MAHMOOD ,   LONDON-UK   (05.11.10)
To have share of his popularity revitalised. Are we to understand that the rest of the IDF Chief are thinking contrary to what he is?Of course not.We, too, know that Israel has the 'technology' at its disposal. But why did Ya'alon omit the mention of willingness on the part of IDF to carry out the mission?Do they have the courage to do it?You tell me,Sarah
60. #59 Mahmood
Hal ,   USA   (05.11.10)
If and when any decision is made to do it, the willingness will be a moot point. As always Mahmood, you will not be informed until much later. PS Tell your friend Peter to try using another word instead of blah blah blah. The shelf life has expired.
