1. Violent riots? No problem - open fire.....
Andy ,   ramat hasharon   (05.14.10)
Arab, Jew, secular, haredi, right left ...makes no difference to me. If you riot violently, you should be subject to being fired upon by law enforcement. Period.
2. starving mom saved by fear of haredi riots
roxie ,   K.HaimIsrael   (05.14.10)
If she would have been secular her sentence would have been harsher as well,so what now do we have 2 different kinds of justice systems, one for Haredim, one for seculars? Outragious, to excuse criminal behavior over fear of Haredi riots ! This country is going down the wrong path, we need equality in justice for all.
3. HAREDIM!!!!!
Ringo ,   Israel   (05.14.10)
This kind of I punity does not encourage abused children to speak out. The parasit haredi comunity (the same one that every year forget their children to suffocate in cars) should be controled or send back to the US were they belong. Enough!!! This is a democratic country, but have no place for these "people"
4. #1 r u crazy?
moti ,   rbs   (05.14.10)
while the CHareidi riots are 1000000% wrong and they way the rioters act is shameful and against gods will you dont fire on another jew! we arent nazi's.. isreal isnt chinese in Tiananmen Square... how dare you talk like that!
5. A bit of sense
simon ,   USA   (05.14.10)
You people in Israel seem to believe that one is guilty until proven otherwise. This is not a democratic concept. Don't you realize that the prosecution opted for the plea bargain because they weren't convinced that even the biased courts in Israel would find the woman guilty. While the woman definately did the right thing,by accepting the plea, since anti-Haredi bias is very rampant in Israeli society and its judiciary.
6. Haredi and "Justice" - no excuse
DT ,   TA Israel   (05.14.10)
Another judicial failure. No mercy should be shown to Haredi rioters and this woman should have the severest of punishments. If you are Haredi you can get away with murder and rampant child abuse
7. I'm confused
Shalom Hartman   (05.14.10)
The woman, as pointed out right from the sorry start - is clearly sick with Monchausen disease. She has to live outside her home for 3 years; she has no access to her kids, at least not for the first 18 months, and even then, only after reviewing the case and with observers; she is to get medical treatment. What would have been the point in throwing her into a jail cell with hardened criminals? She is a sick person who needs help, and who's family needs to be rebuilt. A fair judgement in my view.
8. she is a criminal
Ilana   (05.14.10)
She nearly killed an innocent child. He suffered tremendously. How can she be free? That is really disgusting.
9. Plea Bargains Can Be Hard to Take ..
Christy ,   Boston, US   (05.14.10)
.. sometimes it seems many courts view plea bargains as a good way to get the courts cleared. I very rarely agree with plea bargains, although knowledgeable people claim they're a necessary evil. We see plea bargains in the US and most citizens hate them. In this case, the mother seems very sick and I would have liked her to have been sent to a mental hospital for treatment & a long stay. I don't understand why members of her community don't want to see her get the help she needs. Do they really care about this poor woman and her children? If the terms of this agreement are to work there must be *very careful* follow up to prevent any harm to her children. I fear that after a couple of years, follow up will become lax and she will harm her children. A certain segment of her community seems to keep slandering the doctors and the hospital who cared for her child. If I were one of those doctors, another health care worker, or a hospital representative I'd demand this slander be stopped or I'd bring the slanderers to court.
10. this is a democracy, what do you expect
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (05.14.10)
the legal system like the police and the politicians, live in a democratic society, if they decide that this lady is worth pursuing, then they will pursue her, just like the police decide if a criminal is worth pursuing and the politicians decide if the money is worth taking.
11. if any of us
Sarit ,   Jerusalem   (05.14.10)
If any of us, common Jews in Jerusalem had done half of what she had done we would be in prison. No psychiatrist to help! She will have to stay away from home for three years? her older children are already away from home! In UK! Shall we pay her ticket to London too? People of health system and social workers risked their lifes in those days. Are they not worth at all? And children who are the daily abused in charedi community? Should we give them an hope or they are worth nothing?
12. Conundrum Exposes a Lie
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.14.10)
Fear of Khareidim rioting dictates to courts in case of child abuse and when it's convenient to use them as a scapegoat. Yet, courts dictate over fear of Khareidim rioting in cases of profaning Shabat, dividing Yerushalayim, K'far Shiloakh (Arabized to Silwan), and a long list of Judaic instances. Can't both be right. Somebody's lying when it's convenient... and it's someoneS in the gov't and court system delivering up straw men to condemn as diversion scapegoats. Hmmm, that sounds creepily familiar. Paqid Yirmeyahu Paqid 16, The Netzarim, Ra'anana, Israel Israeli Torah-reverer (& Orthodox Jew) Advocate for Logic as Hermeneutic Halakhic Authority Welcoming All Torah-reverers (Jews & non-Jews)
13. 12 thankfully we don't live under your version of "justice"
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.14.10)
keep your kool aid to yourself. no one wants anything to do with your false virtual reality - just ask rabbis who know what you teach about your nutzarim and your self-appointed office of "paqid" if they agree with you. on this matter i COMPLETELY trust their judgment. and you can quote me on that.
14. You people are so silly. The reason for the plea bargain
M.E.   (05.14.10)
is just because the prosecutors and judge are well aware that there is absolutely no proof that she is guilty and not the fault of the doctors that the child was experimented on, especially since the hospital destroyed the records. Without clear proof there is no way the judge can put her in prison.
15. What about the child?
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.14.10)
The major point here imo is that the child is now going to suffer further. He will continue to believe that he was punished because he was 'bad' Only if the courts had punished the mother with a sufficient sentence could the child even begin to believe that he was abused and not punished...
16. Isn't it a spectacle
i ,   jerusalem   (05.14.10)
to hear health "professionals calling for jail time for someone who clearly needs a padded room and some rehab. Also, why exactly should the hurt feelings of social workers enter into the equation of justice? If there is no safe access, just dont go.
