1. Its amazing how israelis still trust their leaders to do wha
Shame   (05.14.10)
ts best for the country. If nothing is done soon we will all be killed in the next war with the leadership hiding in their massive bomb shelters built around the country. It is time for the people to realize that Inaction will lead to their destruction. Nazrallah openly says his aim is worldwide Jewish eradication, Hamas is not much different but Barak and co are either in denial or they are acting in their own interests not those of the people. Iran is becoming a world superpower with influence and military might while again Barak denies there is a strategic threat. He is pushing Iron Dome although there are major issues as it can not target most short range missiles since its detection ability is too slow. There are other major flaws in Israels 3/4 tier anti-missile systems it seems. The Palestinian boycott and its activities in Jerusalem are against the Oslo Accord and they should be held accountable for that. It is even the first step of the Mitchel report as mentioned on this website lately. According to international law from the times of the league of nations Western Palestine is for a Jewish state and this should be made clear in any diplomacy as well as the issue of the Jewish Refugees. Even according to US law in a bill signed by Senate, Congress and the President calls Jerusalem the undivided capital of Israel. on top the US-Anglo treaty of 1922 they are going against their own agreements. Lastly Abbas is a terrorist by all meanings of the word, he is not the elected leader anymore as his term ran out months ago, Palestinian society is based on incitement and the leadership are involved in violent protests. While i am for trying to make peace why are these realities totally ignored? The facts should be recognized and then we can be nice and give up a piece of our land for a group of people whose whole inception was based on our annihilation. At least the situation will be understood by everyone. Maybe i am just to naive to believe that anything will change, but its a real worry if we can survive another onslaught (especially as the enemy is more powerful then ever before) with the world denying us our right to self-defense, and our leadership seeming more interested in staying in power and pleasing our so called friends. While the Palestinians are working towards creating their own state they have NEVER DONE ANYTHING FOR PEACE. Why is this not any issue. Anyways i have rambled on enough wonder if this will get through the censor.
2. The Ultimate Deterrent!
Bill Foonman ,   Jacksonville USA   (05.14.10)
Lebanon and Syria must be made unequivocally aware that the moment the first Hezbollah rocket hits Israeli soil, both Beirut and Damascus will be turned into the Middle East's newest parking lots. That should give Hezbollah a major reason to hesitate before attacking Israel. If Iran jumps into the fray to protect their pet poodles, you can add it to the list.
3. Tomorrow's battlefield with islam.
joe   (05.14.10)
PART ONE OF COMMENT ______ The sad part is that Israel is wavering in it's decision making, The problem as usual " what will the world think of us ",the US, the EU, the islamic UN,, as if they give a damn (only is our foe is routed). NO one is going to lift a finger to save a few Jews, NO exception. NO country will allow it's sons to die for Israel. For arabs yes. They did it and still doing it in Iraq, in Afghanistan, in Serbia, in Kuwait, in Lebanon, etc..While I think that the Govt and the IDF are correct in not divulging our " hidden cards ' and or bragging, I think that it's a grave error no to prepare the population for the worst and hopping for the best. --- basic 1st aid in homes, hospitals, gas masks, ready bunkers, basic food survival, arms for self defense near borders and inland. THEY can afford to " spend " 1000's,10's of thousands; a drop in the bucket for THEM, we cannot. If what THEY tell us, our friends tell us, our Govt tell us is fairly accurate, THEY must be stopped the 1st day of, without mercy and total disregard of the Geneva B.S. Allah's convention will do nicely for a change. We never tried it..... Who knows ! ! PART II COMMENT WILL APPEAR ON SATURDAY --- thank you.
4. Not all civilians are unaware
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.14.10)
Fishman writes that the Israeli civilians are unaware of the Hezbolla strength, but this is not true. The scenario Fishman describes was described by the Right-wing when Ehud Barak betrayed the SLA and allowed Hezbolla to take over Lebanon. The Right-wing repeated its warnings when Zippy Livni and Ehud Olmert, again with the support of Ehud Barak, declared their victory over Hezbolla and UN 1701. But Fishman forgets to mention an important factor: the high-quality military intelligence Hezbolla received from Israeli citizens including Anat Kam and Uri Blau that will allow them to accurately target and kill IDF troops with the missiles. The only hope Israel has will be to shelter its population and critical installations in the hills of Judea and Samaria. Although these will be under attack from CIA General Dayton's army, there will at least be a chance of defense.
5. thanks Zipi!
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.14.10)
What amazes me is that people voted for Kadima at all last election!
6. Israel Lacks a Competent Goverment
Marty ,   USA.NY   (05.14.10)
Where are the brave israeli leaders ? where are our heroes of the days? day after day & year after day the israeli gov prooves that has incapable of preventing treats to it civilians, what makes me aggreviated is the fact that whatever they decide would be obeyed with people without any serious confrontation from people. Why should israel not notifey it's civilans of a strong potential of serious war ... why we are waiting to be attacked by the enemies, israel does not have that much of population to be indifferent about loosing them that easily with confrontation with hezbollah! and after all Hezbollah is Iranian's strong Hand in the region! We are facing many treats yet are very quite and not taking steps to notifey our people....
7. Pre-empt now. Catch em with pants down
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (05.14.10)
8. #4 Tel Aviv - You're welcome here
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (05.14.10)
PLease G-d such a scenario should be avoided. However, if they're for war...so are we! To the left wing in Tel Aviv and other exposed areas. Jewish settlers have never been your enemies, our part of Israel is here for you too, just as much as you suggest that we shoudl live in Tel Aviv? Long live the people of Israel!
9. All the rockets are the same,
or aren't they?! ,   peaceful europe   (05.14.10)
Bull's-eye, many are unaware of the small differences between a simple rocket and a guided missile.
10. The North is calm at the moment
Atheist Turk ,   Eilat, Israel   (05.14.10)
I was in a Kibbutz directly at the Lebanese border. Just two days ago. It was very calm. But most Israelis were talking, that in 2 or 3 months there will be definitely another war with Hezbollah. I was really surprised. I saw no shelter for the people. So where will they hide when it happens?

Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.14.10)
12. Can trust the IDF
P ,   Philadelphia   (05.14.10)
I'm not a fan of a lot of race policy of Israel, but one thing we can trust is that the IDF can wipe the walls with any military in the world. Let's just hope that if Hezbollah is so daft as to invade, Israel won't pull back at the brink of victory - they should push north, eradicate Hezbollah, and only then consider pulling back. Leaving a job half done is a terrible misuse of an army - while there are rare circumstances where it's appropriate (the first gulf war is one), in general it's foolhardy and leaves whatever problems the war was about in place.
13. Just imagine 10,000 Gazans walking across the border.
David ,   Hartford USA   (05.14.10)
Imagine the world press watching what Israel will do. Imagine Israel moving its tank divisions to stop the onslaught. Imagine the north and eastern borders without heavy tank protection. Imagine thousands of Syrian soldiers with the latest Russian and Iranian anti-tank rockets. If you can imagine this scenario, you can image Israel being led to the slaughterhouse. Now, Gabi & Bibi, prove to us that you are prepared to stop this from happening, if you can.
14. Next time - it's total war
Yona ,   Tel Aviv   (05.14.10)
We need to take off the gloves next time. Give the Lebanese one week to evacuate south of the Litani river and then level everything in that area with napalm and everything we can throw at it and do not let them back. Make it a no-man's land similar to the zone with Syria. And if they try anything after that, left them know that there is a scorched earth policy in effect from now on. No more BS. No more letting the UN or the US pat us on the head saying if you give Hezbullah sapce they won't rearm and wont attack.
15. Lebanon has no idea what they are in for
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.14.10)
This time it won't just be Hizbollah that pays the price. All of Lebanon will be a target.
16. ISRAEL GOVERNMENT IS WEAK & AFRAID
Sherman ,   USA   (05.14.10)
The current Israeli government is weak & afraid. How can they let a world recognized terrorist organization build up its capabilities right in front of its eyes. This is pure madness. I believe that the current Israeli government believes it can not defeat Hezbollah and that is why it is not taking any action.
17. An interesting post, "Shame" #1, and
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.14.10)
appreciated. As to a Ynet "censor", you're not familiar with the newspaper. On the contrary, "censorship" is generally lacking and posts always seem to go through, even those from impostures. Ynet has been made aware of false posting but it still goes on although not in such accumulation as one-two months ago.
18. Back to The Middle Ages
Frankie Littlehammer ,   New Herstal, TX, US   (05.14.10)
The Israeli Government should make it very clear to the Lebanese Government and People, and to the UN, that Israel has no desire to attack or occupy Lebanon, but that terror attacks or preparation for terror attacks will be answered. Syria has threatened to bomb Israel back to the Middle Ages; Israel will undoubtedly suffer damage in a next war, but it's Lebanon that will be returned to the Middle Ages so beloved by Muslim radicals. No hand-wringing about 'disproportionate response' please.

Shame   (05.14.10)
I am very much familiar with this website thank you very much! If anything I am more familiar with this site than you as you seem to think that these fake postings have dried up! If you had have taken the time to look you would have see that there are at least 8 under the Is this what peace looks like article and about 4 under the Understanding Mitchel piece. that at least 12 in the last day or two and some under MY different names! Don’t think you can lecture me mate.
20. To: No. 16
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.14.10)
I respectfully disagree. While I would prefer Israel to carry out a pre-emptive strike, international politics dictate that Israel must wait and absorb a first blow. Then, nothing will hold them back, Hezbollah will be destroyed and the international community will have nothing to say, because every sovereign state has the right to defend itself against terrorists. This time, I think it is safe to say that concerns about collateral damage will be pushed to the back burner. As well it should be.
21. Israel must retake South Lebanon security zone forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.14.10)
It is mind boggling that any sane Israeli would even consider further retreats. EVERY single Israeli retreat has been a total disaster. Had we stayed in our South Lebanon security zone, Hizbullah would pose no threat to us whatsoever. We must completely end the mad policy of retreat. Israel must retake our South Lebanon security zone forever.
22. Next war--level lebanon and Syria
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (05.14.10)
Israel should use all its air power to level lebanon and attack from all sides. demascus should be hit with high level atomic bombs so their cowards leaders remember what they started. May Israel destroy all its racist enemies forever...............
23. Indeed! IF a war is once again propagated
jared ,   orlando   (05.14.10)
by those who masquerade as "freedom and resistance" fighter who are actually terrorists driven by hatred as they always have been to kill the jews and (in recent decades) destroy israel, then they will receive that much more than they give. ....all the more reason to not at all hold back military force and completely carpet bomb the region to be secured once the threat and all who support it are driven from the land....and just like in previous wars of annihilation directed by the arab world against israel.....they will have no one to blame in truth but themselves.
24. #2 bill
abraham   (05.14.10)
you are far too logical. Logic doesnt work with arabs. Where have I heard the phrase 'we celebrate death more than you celebrate life' Its always easy to give advice sitting in good old USA
25. To No.20 Sarah
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.14.10)
Should war break out and should Israel be able to advance decisively on its enemies, would Hussein Obama not try to sabotage any definitive Israeli victory... ??
26. #19 is not me and has stolen my identity.
Shame   (05.14.10)
i have been reading this newspaper for a decade so understand it well. I have tried numerous times to post on this site but mostly it does not pass the censor since then i refrained from posting for a long time. Maybe as i have a pro-israel opinion usually backed up with facts that it is a problem to post it? i am only using one name on this site and have written here for a year or two i think. But seems as though someone else is using the same name.
27. Israeli Defeatism
W. ,   Beirut, Lebanon   (05.14.10)
It's very obvious to and identifiable by pundits and enemies of the State of Israel, alike. Before, in the good ol' days, Israeli military doctrine was based on taking war deep into enemy territory and some form of modern Blitzkrieg. In sharp contrast, nowadays, Israel is on the defensive; building the Iron Dome, which most probably will be inefficient, and sitting idle and uttering threats of obliteration, which their foes don't really believe.
28. OP Cast Lead
TCMSOLS   (05.15.10)
Consider South of the Litani to be a larger version of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Al-Alatra of Gaza. They need longer range rockets to hit the North of Israel. Same reason Hamas need the Fajr-5 in the south. That leaves Israel with a strategic threat of the new missile transfers, IAF, SF. OP Cast Lead scared them and shock the world. It was not full spectrum total war that the IDF will unleash if attacked in the north by Hizbullah.
29. To: Chris at No. 25
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.15.10)
Oh, without question. But how? He's taking a beating in American public opinion polls, and the principal reason for his slide in both popularity and approval ratings is because the American people do not want closer ties to the Islamofascist world. That is what Obama has been pushing on the country, and the American people will make it very clear to Hussein Obama come the November midterm elections that (a) whatever Obama's person view, the American people do not like Islamofascist states, and do not want closer ties with them; (b) the American people have a strong loyalty to and affinity for Israel; and (c) the American president works for the American people, and he had better represent us the way we wish to be represented. Make no mistake, Chris -- the Obama administration is reeling in shock that the American people do not share Obama's vision and most certainly do not share his agenda. He is commander-in-chief. He can send in the troops pretty much at will. But the way the United States armed forces are spread thin in Iraq, Afghanistan and now Waziristan, and the huge number of troops that have very quietly been deploying to South Korea .... there isn't much left. It's an all volunteer military and, frankly, the quality is just not that good. Obama has one foot on a staircase and the other foot on a banana peel. He will not interfere with anything Israel does, although he might pay lip service in passing. He's flirting with impeachment as it is; he needs to tread very lightly on the issue of Israel. The American people aren't buying his world view, and Hussein Obama knows it.
30. To No.20 Sarah
Salah Beytar ,   Tyre Lebanon   (05.15.10)
Guided missiles would seem to be 100 times more dangerous since they could aimed at one house rather than a city. It should be easy to make them guided with satellite GPS and cell phone towers but harder to make jamming proof now days.
