1. Poor Saeb, time to get up off it...
Resistor   (05.16.10)
and compromise.
2. IS EREKAT A NEGOTIATOR???
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (05.16.10)
As far as I can see Erekat regards everything as non-negotiable. Israel still has no partner for peace. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
3. Too little, too late
StevenA ,   USA   (05.16.10)
The Palestinians have a chance for peace and statehood every day. And every day they throw that opportunity away. I have no interest in Palestinian demands. The only thing relevant is Israel's security. Let Palestinians renounce violence and accept Israel's right to exist. THEN we can talk about borders.
4. Erekat's seen better days...
Nour ,   One-State الدولة   (05.16.10)
Ali Abu Nimah hit the bull's eye few months back when he said that Erekat and Co' are victims of a cult called "2-state solution". The more they run towards it, the further away it gets, so what's their solution? KEEP RUNNING! In the meantime, the simple strategy of sticking to our human rights and demands for equality will resonate hundreds of times louder in people's ears, AROUND the world - and guess what, we don't need a fancy "negotiations" degree to succeed. The world is already listening to us. Erekat is in fact working against Palestinian interests but he doesn't even realize it and that's the sad part!
5. ALL ARABIC STATES MUST SUPPORT INDEPENDENT PALESTINE STATE
ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (05.16.10)
LOOK LIKE THEY ARE NOT. if all arabs sing same song, america come middle east TO BUILD.
6. erekats prefered solution is unilaterally declare independen
zionist forever   (05.16.10)
Which will only make things worse for them. Settlements will stay they will just be further fortified. Building in Jerusalem will probably increase. Israel will control crossings, airspace, the sea ..... and we wouldn't give them anything like the corridor they want to connect Gaza - Judea & Samaria. They would have a state in theory but in reality Israel would control everything. The single state idea is a non starter and its to politically damaging for even Obama to support the idea. If these people want to get anything they need to learn the word NEGOTIATE understand that means give and take on both sides not just say we demand everything on this list and will not compromise on even the most minor detail. Saeb do yourself a favor resign from politics become an academic like the idiot Chomsky. Just think as an academic you can tell the world how clever you are because have all the answers if your a politician you need to take into account the demands of the other side
7. Palestinian-Israeli settlement
jose amram ,   LA, CA   (05.17.10)
Those of us who remember Ehud Barak and Yasser Arafat meeting, it was agreed to give back over 90% of the west bank and even parts of East Jerusalem to the Palestinians, and they did not accept. I am not an admirer of the last 2 Israeli govts, but as Jew living in the diaspora, I feel there must be a solution which essentiall eliminates the internal threat for both sides. Of course external threats such as Iran and Hizballah are another thing altogether but even they will have to recon with an agreement. Netanyahu's hard line cannot help in the end.
8. Two states with security arrangements
Robert Haymond ,   Israel&Canada   (05.17.10)
and territorial transfers ... this is what Erekat offers. He also says that most Israelis and Palestinians seek a solution and that's why he is committed to the process. His associate, Salaam Fayyad, is also committed to a non-violent solution to the difficult negotiations ahead. We would be fools not to accept the opportunity and to accept it in good faith. Nothing short of a two-state solution will insure our own security and survival. Palestinians must have a governable state. That means no cheesecloth and contiguous borders to make it viable. Avigdor Lieberman offered a territorial exchange regarding the triangle area in northern Israel. By that, he meant that he forsaw a two-state solution and was suggesting what could be done to implement it. Lieberman is an astute politician often underrated and frequently demonized but he made, and continues to make, sense out of what appears to be confusion. Let's see if Erekat and Fayyad can really be partners in peace. They have enough on their side to deal with given the iniquities of Hamas.
9. yeah more blah blah blah from the lying Erekat
Mongo ,   Paris   (05.17.10)
Palis need a new untainted negotiator that doesn´t talk from voth sides of his mouth. Erekat has no more credibility.
10. from 1 to 8 all wrong
carlos ,   San Diego CA   (05.17.10)
The Palestinaians cannot comply with anything, they do not have the administrative capacity to control anything, especially Hamas. Do you think that they would stop their own people from shooting Israelis if Jerusalem was divided? The Jordanians used to shoot Israelis, what do you expect from these terrorists?
11. Two Words...
Roy ,   USA   (05.17.10)
Two words... "Who cares?"
12. Erekat: "There isn't a Jewish people, so why should I accept
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.17.10)
its right to national self-determination and an independent state?" (Annapolis 2007). When Erekat and the rest of the Muslim-Arab leadership, local and regional, accept Israel's RIGHT to be, to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people there will be a very good chance for peace. When Erekat and the rest of the Muslim-Arab leadership, local and regional, accept that a peace treaty will be the "end of the conflict", there will be an even better chance for peace. But in the absence of both, it is clear the Muslim-Arab leadership is eager to see Israel's demise, either in a single act of war or in stages, and accepting its RIGHT to be stands in their long-term goal. Never Again!
13. The Arab/Palestinian dream of an independent Palestinian ...
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.17.10)
The Arab/Palestinian dream of an independent Palestinian state with no Israel. Time has come for a substantive shift in thinking to end the Arab/Palestinian dream of an independent Palestinian state with no Israel, as being part of a solution to the Israel-Palestinian/Arab conflict. Surely by now it should be evident to all that the Palestinians ability to bring an independent and self sufficient and self sustaining state into existence is utterly hopeless and there is no reasonable prospect that time will change that fact. 14. to #10 well said, they r so close to anarchy
ghostq   (05.17.10)
hamas even can't control gaza since palis brought Al-Qaeda to Gaza. they just endorse hatred and kill.
15. UN Security Council Resolution 242, as is, was designed
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.17.10)
wisely to resolve the Arab Israeli conflict. It is high time we visited it and demanded its application. 242, while calling upon Israel to withdraw its armed forces from captured territories, does not suggest that this should be from all the territories. Indeed, it assumes that that would take place to "secure and recognized boundaries". 242 does not mention even once the need to set up an additional state in the region, knowing full well that there is no legal, historical, moral or practical need for such an entity. 242 does not mention at all concepts such as "Palestine", "Palestinians" or "Palestinian state", not even once because such concepts were developed later on for political expediency only. 242 assumes that Gaza, based on agreements with Israel, will revert back to Egypt and much of the West Bank will revert back to Jordan. It is high time the international community demanded and encouraged the parties to the June 1967 Six-Day War, i.e. Israel, Jordan and Egypt in this case, to come to terms and implement 242, as is, if indeed an accommodation of peaceful coexistence between Arab and Jew, between the nation-state of the Jewish people, Israel, and the Arab world is the goal, which it must be.
16. Jehudah Ben Israel: What would convince
Robert Haymond ,   Israel&Canada   (05.17.10)
Egypt to integrate Gaza and Jordan to integrate the Westbank? We made a mistake in 1967 by not insisting on it. How would it be advantageous for either Egypt or Jordan now? What inducements would be necessary. Does anyone have any ideas on this subject?
17. #15&16MORE ON UNSC RES242
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (05.17.10)
Jehudah Ben-Israel has done well to understand 242 according to its intention in 1967,There has been so much nonsense talked about it over the years. One extra point worth making is that 242 was scripted by the UK which was the only Permanent Member of the SC that could put it in these terms because IT WAS ONLY THE UK THAT RECOGNIZED JORDANIAN SOVEREIGNTY OVER THE WEST BANK AND EGYPT'S EFFECTIVE SOVEREIGNTY OVER THE GAZA STRIP.That is why it only mentions withdrawal from territories of other states.A Palestinian state wasn't on the agenda. As Jordan and Egypt gave up their claims and signed peace treaties,Gaza and the West Bank are left as territories of undecided status and if he Palestinian Arabs want a state there they'd better realize that they are just supplicants and start negotiating properly. Robert Haymond can forget about Egypt absorbing the Gaza Strip. This Egyptian government plays a filthy double game, feigning peace with Israel but using Gaza as a Trojan Horse to undermine Israel. The best thing to do with a Trojan Horse is burn it outside. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
