1. If it were Arabs rioting, more than 20 would be shot dead.
Ali ,   Washington DC   (05.17.10)
2. Disgraceful, violent, conduct..
Paul ,   USA   (05.17.10)
aimed at their fellow city residents. I don't know that much about the Hare dim, but from what I've read in the news and from YNET posters, they don't leave me with a favorable image.
3. A minority
Jay ,   New Haven, US   (05.17.10)
Don't blame all Haredim for this violence. It is the product of a disturbed minority of Haredim. The rest of the Haredim need to speak out against this.
4. These are NOT Religious People
Israelit ,   Israel   (05.17.10)
These are fakes. In any case, these clowns don't have anything to let their energy out. Make them go to the army, make them go to work, so they'll get an understanding of real life and have a productive outlet for their (ahem") "Yetzer HaRa"
5. Riots in Jerusalem
Chimo ,   Las Vegas   (05.17.10)
I think that if they are throwing stones at the police, then the police should treat them the same way they treat arab rioters, and believe me, this is coming from an ardent supporter of Israel. You can't blame all haredim, but you can certainly blame those who seek to trample the rights of others who are not like them
6. Stewardship of the land.
Ernest ,   USA   (05.17.10)
Bones have been moved before. It's even uncertain who they belong to. Consider the cost of this mayhem and how these monies could have been better well spent. These haredim need to find peaceful and non-destructive ways to express themselves. How can it be that their hierarchy would allow this? A picture of their leader could just as well be posted next to a picture of the destruction with a caption that he is responsible for this.
7. Re: #3 And only 40% of Germans elected Hitler.
Michael ,   Toronto   (05.18.10)
It doesn't matter if they are a minority, these unruly and even violent rioters are a significant minority. Furthermore, their friends and associates who live in the area either do not care enough to prevent them, or actually support them. Also, I don't see any of their prominent rabbis publicly protesting.
8. Shameful behaviour, not religous at all !
(05.18.10)
Im religous myself (shomer shabbat) but I do not consider myself Charedi. I cannot understand the behaviour of these people they are not behaving in a dignified way. In fact it is a disgrace. The equivalent situation would be for the secular Jews to start rioting every time it comes out in the news that another Charedi child molester has been caught. I don't understand them, the Rabbis ruled that it is acceptable to move the graves and it has been decided. End of. It is acceptable to disagree of course, but we don't need this. They have this strong belief and commitment to a Jewish body buried thousands of years ago, which is admirable. Yet on the other hand if a Jewish woman wearing trousers walks down Mea Shearim she would probably be shouted or spat at. I dont see where the continuity is. Where is the respect. It seems they have double standards. And then don't get me started on the ones who dont believe in "the state". And go to Iran to cosy up to our enemies and spillers of Jewish blood. They don't serve in the army and leech benefits, and condemn our soldiers. They behave as a fifth column refusing to integrate and refusing to allow "2nd class" citizens (ie Sephardim and Ethiopians) into their schools, which are state funded. 3000 years ago Jewish soldiers under King David used to be in the army but they cannot ? They wonder why the Messiah hasn't come maybe they have more to answer for then the rest of Jewry. They are making the Jews around the world look bad. This behaviour has nothing to do with Torah values, and quite frankly. They are behaving like brain washed people. Im not saying I agree with the Barzillai graves controversy Im just saying this isnt a response, just as when they rioting over the Jerusalem car park controversy.
9. hooligans... who does like them ?
eporue ,   europe   (05.18.10)
maybe its not about tombstones, but about rioting. maybe its unlikely, there wont be a "next" reason... with every long "fight" with the police, they get more "experienced", and "hardened"... every riot has to top the one before...
10. As a frequent visitor..
Paul ,   London England   (05.18.10)
..to Israel, I feel sad that Jerusalem is now in many parts a no go area for decent folk. Why do you bother to fund a Police force that stands idly by while bully boy extremists run riot in the city? Have Israelis really lost the will to resist terrorism ? A shame.
11. jerusalem violence
raquelle ,   NYC USA   (05.18.10)
I am traveling to Israel next week, this year I am spending 10 days in TA and only 5 in J'slem because the city has become too frum, I am modern orthodox fyi, the charedim sound like palestinian rioters and violate halaka completely, it is frightening and emabarressing, afraid to be in J'slem.
12. riots in jerusalem.
tzina ,   tel aviv, israel.   (05.18.10)
jew bashing is not the issue here. the question is; should building be allowed where graves are / were buried? the answer: no. once we, our loved ones, beloved of the past, have been given back to Hashem, we have a sacred trust to protect them and allow them thier sleep.
13. Beyond Disgusting
Christy ,   Boston, US   (05.18.10)
Were the new canine units deployed to help stop the rioters? How many rioters were locked away?
14. Religious hatred
Ben ,   Monroe USA   (05.18.10)
The herediim and the extremist Islamists are actually brothers in hatred. The herediim hate everything their rabbis tell them is wrong and the Islamists hate everything their Imans tell them is wrong. The time has come for the Israeli government to start treating rioters in the manner they earn. Be it graves, parking lots, etc.; those who depend upon governmental handouts to survive should immediately be denied such and allowed to either become integrated into the general public or starve. The Torah does not demand the government supporting those who refuse to support themselves.
15. I agree with #14 and it is a disgrace..
Gaby ,   Israel   (06.09.12)
They have nothing better to do they have become mental...
