1. Mad and bad
Sagi   (05.22.10)
She is mad and he is bad. The difference is that it is her solemn right to do as she pleases. If it is her fancy to indulge in a pagan act then so be it. It is her own private affair. He on the other hand is bad, no, worse, he is evil. He is bad for causing greivous bodily harm to another fellow human being and he is evil because the person he attacked is a woman. This is a classic example of a twisted mind, manipulated and brainwashed by concocted nonsense deciding to take the law into its own hands. This evil being decided that he was judge, jury and executioner. Please let me remind folks that England, France, Germany and other "enlightened" Nations burned heretics at the stake during the reformation and the 200 or so years after that in attempts to "correct" them. The atrocities carried out in the name of religion are too numerous and too brutal and inhumane to detail here, but I fear if this behaviour of the Haredim, the license that they give themselves to "correct" others, if not curbed, will snowball. Every great oak had its beginnings in a small acorn. This country of ours, governed by laws which are enforced by police and presided over by a judicial system, is slowly but surely sliding into anarchy. We, the general public, seem to be indifferent to this growing phenomenon. This attitude will not serve us well.
2. HAREDIM SHOULD EDUCATE ITSELF BEFORE OTHERS DISCIPLINE THEM.
ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (05.22.10)
live as you want. but BUT IF YOU ATTACK TO OTHER BECAUSE OF THEIR LIVING ! YOU LOSE YOU YOU THE HAREDIS ! I AM TALKING TO YOU. *** THERE COMES A TIME HAREDIM NOT TAKEN WITH PATIENT !!!
3. THE DANGEREOUS HAREDI GOING !
ATİLLA KARAGÖZOĞLU   (05.22.10)
THE HAREDIS SHOULD KNOW THAT !!! NEVER EVER NEVER EVER BOTHER OTHERS WHO ALSO HAVE RIGHT TO LIVE AS THE WAY THEY WISH.
4. Haredi bhaviour
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.22.10)
What it is is an escalation of the Haredi thinking that they can do whatever they want, whenever the want and wherever they want - because they are never punished!
5. Sounds staged
Concerned Citizen ,   USA   (05.22.10)
This pathetic "women of the wall" group has been looking for every opportunity to portray themselves as victims.
6. more violence from the charideem
Avi ,   Israel   (05.22.10)
Just another example of these fanatics amongst us who belive they are Gods police force, claiming the moral highground while attacking women . It is this womens basic human right of free will to practice her religious beliefs in anyway she feels fit. This man is a classic example of the behavior of the charideem who act and behave as if they are above the law.
7. Disgusting

Leah ,   Brooklyn NY USA   (05.22.10)
This happened 2 weeks ago. How come you are first reporting it now?
9. # 8 Leah
Sagi   (05.22.10)
What's your point, lady. It happened, and it has been repoted in the media, that's what is important, not when or why. The man is disgusting and so are his mentors.
10. Strangling can lead...
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.22.10)
...to sex. What makes a guy Haredi if he approaches a woman to whom he is not related and engages her in conversation repeatedly and then touches her while assaulting her? These are all prohibited by Haredi law or custom. If this man drove through a red light while smoking on a Saturday morning would the headline read: "Haredi runs red light on Shabbat while lighting cigarette"? Or perhaps the offense was comitted by a man who, up until the incident, was thought to be Haredi. That is far more plausable.
11. #5 - Why "pathetic" ?
michael redbourn ,   Arad, Israel   (05.22.10)
You need to explain or it will be considered that you agree with the man that beat her. Mike

15. Terrorists
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (05.22.10)
All these 7aredi scumbags who have been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons should be summarily interned for a minimum of one year. ISRAEL IS NOT EFFING IRAN AND NEVER WILL BE!!!
16. @-Sagi #1
Maya ,   Jerusalem   (05.22.10)
You have an interesting delusion about your utopia. I too was minding my own business exercising my solemn right to do as I please, when I was approached by a man from whose clothing his affiliation was obvious. When I refused to cooperate to his battery of questions regarding what I was smoking the man attacked me. He knocked me on my chest and then shackled my hands together. He took posession of property on my person and without my concent and took me in his vehicle and ultimately held me in seclusion against my will for several hours. I was scared and hurt. I am a woman but this man had cause me grievous bodily harm. Becoming judge, jury and executionor this man took the law into his hands, assaulted me and locked me up after stealing my property. Your attitude espoused in your comment serves us no good. When the case was brought to court I was found to be the offendor and not the victim. The man who assaulted me and held me in confinement was "justified" and vidicated of any wrongdoing. And my property was never returned to me. The woman in the article did not deserve to be attacked or even questioned by the man. The man in the article violated laws of the Israeli State and even more laws and restrictions of the State of Judea. Yet, you have failed to name any of the reasons that what happened was wrong or evil.
17. to me Israel means
Barney ,   USA   (05.22.10)
being able to practice your own beliefs and it should mean letting others practice theirs whether you agree with it or not. I doubt it is a mitzvah to attack a woman. This "religious" man should be punished as any other violent person. "women are an abomination" definitely not from Torah. fanaticism is ugly on every side.
18. Maya # 16
Sagi   (05.22.10)
I fail to understsnd the point you are trying to make. I declared her mad because I am a confirmed atheist and firmly believe that religion is a pile of nonsense which serves no purpose other than to bend the minds of people who are otherwise born normal. That is my opinion of religion, be it of whatever denomination. Dancing around a totem pole, strapping leather on your wrist and forehead, declaring Mary to be the holy Mother of the Son God, are all, to me, one and the same thing, depravity. I declared him to be evil because I am an ardent lover of humanity and firmly believe that any human causing harm to another is evil. I hope I have made myself clear. Utopia actually has nothing to do with what I said, but since you mentioned it a world without violence would indeed be Utopia. One way of achieving this would be if Mankind were to abandon religion. Mother Nature is my one and only "God". It would serve Humanity well if She were the same for others and if they had more respect for Her.
19. Staged, indeed.
HP ,   USA   (05.22.10)
Agree with #5 commenter. This seems staged. But by whom? Could it be staged by an Islamist PR initiative? Wouldn't it be beneficial to the selling of Islam if every other religion's followers sink to their level of misogyny? Hmm?
20. Sagi @ 1 , "she is mad" you wrote
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.22.10)
Why ? because she thinks that women can wear Tefilin too ? She did'nt hurt anybody by doing so , she did it at home [ most likely ] Does she attacks men walking around wearing their talit ? or their Tsitsit coming out of their pants ? Saying that someone is mad is posing a diagnosis , only doctors are allowed to do it . So you violated the law . No need rto be a judge to say it , everyone knows that some things are unlawfull .
21. Charles # 20
Sagi   (05.22.10)
Read my number 18 and you will understand me. You already know my opinion of religion by this time. Madness comes in varying degrees, talking to "God" or "Gods" is only the start. Are you a student of history ? Medieval Europe should have been called "Medievil". Religion has caused more death than any other single factor in the annals of Mankind. That is a fact. It is stupidity incarnate.
22. Why isn't this being treated as an isolated incident?
adam eliyahu   (05.22.10)
Where are the other incidents like this?
23. Provocative Women
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (05.22.10)
and stupid, too. Although there is no objection to women wearing Tefillin, there is plenty of objection to those who do it to provoke other Jews to anger. You wanna wear Tefillin? Do it at home. Whatever these women "gain" in performing a Mitzvah is immediately lost with their provocative behavior. The bottom line is they gained nothing from their actions.
24. The group has sparked outrage within ultra-Orthodox circles
sns   (05.22.10)
"The group has sparked outrage within ultra-Orthodox circles for its monthly Rosh Chodesh prayer service for women at the Western Wall." This of course is an incorrect statement blaming the Women of the Wall for the violence that is perpetrated against them. This statement in effect absolves the violent offenders of their actions.
25. This is a Hoax - No police report was filed
Dovid ,   Modiin   (05.22.10)
26. Israel means..Never having to say you're sorry..
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (05.22.10)
Curious how religious violence is condoned in the 'Jewish' state. All you require is for one person, following his or her religious teachings, to feel that somone else must follow his path to 'God'?, 'Salvation'?, 'Piety'? , and violence may ensue. And such violence will be applauded by at least a sizable minority if such violence is directed at a fellow Jew, and by a sizable majority if such violence is directed against a non-Jew.
27. @-Sagi #16
Maya ,   Jerusalem   (05.22.10)
"I declared him to be evil because I am an ardent lover of humanity and firmly believe that any human causing harm to another is evil. I hope I have made myself clear." So, for the record, you would consider the man who (while I was exercising my "solemn right" to do as I please) assaulted me, shackled my hands and locked me up, as well as the Israeli court of law that condoned his actions (and perhaps the Israeli government that gave authority to that court) to be evil? I think you have made your delusions clear.
28. JESUSALEN
cristian ,   arg   (05.22.10)
the religious leaders are the same now as two thousand years ago,the messiah said about them the scribes and the pharisees sit in moses seat all therefore whatsoever they bid you observe that observe and do but do not yet after their works for they say and do not do for they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne and lay them on men shoulders but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers but all their works they do for to be seen by men they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments and love the uppermost rooms at feast and the chief seats in the sin-agogues and greetings in the markets and to be called of men rabbi, rabbi but be not ye called rabbi for one is your master, even messiah, and all ye are brethen but he that is greatest among you shall be your servant and whosoever shall exalt hmself shall be abased and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted woe unto you scribes and pharisees hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin and have omitted the weightier of the torah, judgment, mercy, and faith these ought ye to have done and not to leave the other undone even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity wherefore behold i send unto you prophets and wise men and scribes and some of them ye shall kill and crucify and some of them shall ye scourge in your sin-agogues and persecute them from city to city for i say unto you ye shall not see me henceforth till ye shall say blessed is he that cometh in the name of the lord
29. what would he say to rashi's daughters?
johanna from tsfat   (05.22.10)
after all they wore tefillin too!
30. I think Sagi, #18, has made himself and
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.22.10)
his preceding remarks clear whether or not you agree with him regarding his propositions about religion. Like Sigmund Freud many years before, Sagi is a passionate Jew who appears to believe that religion is a superstition and that anyone who practices it is "mad". Although my own view about religion is decidedly different than Sagi's, I found his input on the situation in question to be valuable. I also appreciated his sense of humour.
