1. well said
reality check ,   zion   (05.19.10)
with the right to free speech comes the olibagion not to use it for incitemtn .. as chomsky does. Visitng Israel was only a ploy to help promote himself and aid Israel's enemies. this isall aobut the professors ego. he can keep it in Jordan.
2. dictionary...
eporue ,   europe   (05.19.10)
backyard = westbank. enemy = neighbours. chomsky at birzeit = taliban on bbc. hating israel = criticizing israel. entry banned = no administrative mishap.
3. Very simple: The left condemns is, therefore it was wise
daniel   (05.19.10)
It's a foolproof indicator. When the left is cheering, Israel is in mortal danger. When the left cries in outrage and calls us names, then you know you are doing something good. Why? The left is suicidal. They hate the west and western culture, they think we are the cause of all ills in the world. For a while their complaints made sense, but whoever takes them seriously today is putting all our lives in danger.
4. As always, Arieh Eldad, gets it right.....
Brian ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (05.19.10)
....we need more like him and we need to take this sort of action more often.
5. The Eldads of today would also keep Einstein out
Stop Facism   (05.19.10)
if he would dare to critize Israel. Real democracies are able to listen to critism and discuss ideas. In totalitarian regimes those things are suppressed and the critics are given the stamp of traitor.
6. Survival instincts?
Ron ,   Israel   (05.19.10)
Leading Israel into further isolation and opening the doors for boycott as a result of failed policies by the Israeli right... Where is your survival instinct? All Eldad wants to survive is a continued occupation even at the cost of democracy.
7. Double standard
R ,   Israel   (05.19.10)
Well said. Whether or not the scuds, kassams, katushas, etc., are flying right now, we are at war. Let's see any other nation at war let the enemy in to attack it further.
8. You are losing the propaganda battle
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.19.10)
Proof that "Israel's" claims that it's a democracy is nonsense Intellectuals such as Chomsky does not require a certificate of honor from an extremist like Arieh Eldad
9. To #5 by your reasoning UK is a facist state
Stop hypocrisy!   (05.19.10)
They have banned Feiglin from entering, just because they don't like his political views. So much for free speech! But UK loves Islamo facists and let them speak on the BBC.
10. #8, are you honest enough to answer this query?
Steve ,   USA   (05.19.10)
Censorship does not define democracy, but assuming you are correct what would happen to a pro Israel speaker in the PA territories. He would be arrested if lucky, probably torn apart in the street or shot in the legs. Please respond if I am incorrect on this particular issue. Answer my question honestly please.
11. @Stop Facism
daniel   (05.19.10)
Being critical and seeking someone's destruction are two different things.
12. its not a moral or ethical question
dani   (05.19.10)
its a question of being smart -- how much more publicity did noam chomsky get from being refused entry than he would have by making his little speech? that is the real question. while it is true that one can compare us to england, and it is true that the england has repeatedly denied entry to england of many people, including radical muslims, holocaust deniers, etc etc, on the same basis israel denied chomsky's entry, the fact is israel is NOT ENGLAND. israel is in a special situation (as eldad says, we are not switzerland) and has to act accordingly. you can't just hand propaganda victories to the enemy -- look, chomsky won without even saying a word!
13. Eldad has no arguments
peter ,   amsterdam NL   (05.19.10)
1st: it's " Chomsky is a famed linguist' not linguistic, 2nd: you put nothing forward yourself, Eldad, no arguments or ideas. I may disagree with Chomsky but at least I know why.
14. Europe #2
Steve Klein   (05.19.10)
"West Bank" = Historic and Biblical Judea and Samaria Judea and Samaria = Israel neighbor = neighbor friend = friend enemy = enemy criticizing Israel for defending herself = hating Israel entry banned for known Jewish hater of Israel = badge of honor for Israel
15. treating all enemies of Israel the same
JEWBIE ,   NYC USA   (05.19.10)
an enemy is an enemy and should be treated as an enemy
16. right on. we're secure enough, smart enough not to fall for
ralph   (05.19.10)
silly arguments of the left.
17. Israel's right-wing lost the battle of arguments
Yael   (05.19.10)
and they can't help them other than with gag-orders, threats of closing political parties and NGOs, denying entry to intellects and jorunalists,... A very sad testimony for Israel.
18. Eldad is right about the survival instincts
Eden   (05.19.10)
because Israel's right-wing ideology can't survive if the gates of democracy are open. Euqal rights and free speech are fundamental democractic values that are perceived by the right-wing as a threat to hold on to the occupation.
19. Perfectly stated by MK Eldad...
Ron ,   New York, USA   (05.19.10)
Glad to see that there are still clear headed people that see through the delusion of the left. Now let's lock and load and keep our powder dry for the big fight that's coming.
20. An elegant article, Mr. Eldad, clarifying
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.19.10)
and articulating the problem vis a vis Chomsky and, by implication, other demonizer of Israel voices, and how our survival instincts are continuing to function. Thank you.
21. #9 Feiglin incited to violence
BBC   (05.19.10)
Freedom of speech ends when inciting to vilolence. Calling to launch a war against the Palestinians as Feiglin did is prime example. Chomsky did not call on a war against the Jews. He supports a peaceful an negotiated solution.
22. #10: Great, keep on comparing us with PA or better Iran
Avner ,   IL   (05.19.10)
at least that might make us look better. Before I forget it, Israel still has more democracy than North Korea and that should make all of us very proud (but better re-check on that in a few years).
23. We know we're in big trouble when...
Michael Steiner ,   Bahrain   (05.19.10)
...our MKs start making a big deal out of and extolling the act of preventing a deluded loudmouth from entering Israel. Sad and pathetic, and ultimately self-destructive.
24. Damage done, don't make it worse Eldad
JJ   (05.19.10)
Chomsky thought to make a few points with his lecture and got rewarded a thousand times more because right-wing Israel got no brains left. Eldad's badge of honor doesn't buy anything, it's Israel's badge of disgrace that Chomsky can sell now.
25. Chomsky gladly accepted the badge of honor
Rob   (05.19.10)
No wonder he didn't want to try entering for 2nd time (after 'mishap' was corrected) - it would have cost him the badge of 'honor'. Get ready to prepare a few more badges of honor - the International humanitarian aid boats are coming...
26. Fascism writ large
Ussishkin ,   Tel Aviv Israel   (05.19.10)
We are no longer a democracy. We cannot claim to practice freedom of speech. We had to admit the truth to ourselves one day and now that day is here - we are too scared of our own shadows to hear any criticisms. We have allowed right wing reactionaries to take the reins of political power and this is the result. Chomsky's views are critical of us and I am not a fan of his, but I thought we were strong enough to absorb most adverse comments. Clearly we are not capable of that and that makes us fundamentally very weak indeed. Fascist states ultimately are.
27. Eldad opens his mouth and removes all doubt
Michael ,   New Hampshire   (05.19.10)
This rant is just the standard steaming pile of nationalist nonsense constantly spewed by the Israeli right. Such an inept analogy mentioning Haw Haw! Chomsky cannot be tried for treason, as he's not an Israeli citizen. Nor does an intifada remotely compare to the threat of a belligerent Germany. What business does this halftwit have being a lawmaker? Israel would show its strength by allowing an old man's criticism, but Bibi and his zealous haredi friends are cowards who would hide behind the IDF rather than confront a challenge to their political philosophy. So he says that you call the Arabs savages but fail to see how they are motivated by the right's heavy handed oppression. Is such an accusation so terrible that you would consider him a serious danger? "Hatred of the West" says the fool, Daniel? Which side advocates for subjugation or banishment of another people? For militarism over diplomacy? For theocratic rule over religious freedom? And who has been the political side advocating American-style rights guaranteed by constitution? It's shocking that so many Israelis have such a dim view of political reality and mistake nonsense articles like this for intelligent discourse.
28. Wrong to Ban
john ,   radlett UK   (05.19.10)
I disagree with waht you [he] has to say, but I will defend his right to say it A vERY Bad and wholly wrong decision to ban him, and silly, as it will garner him yet more publicity
29. Eldad, pls keep up the good work of delegitimising Israel!
Kim ,   Australia   (05.19.10)
How I love Zionist arrogance! Zionists like Eldad and his supporters are so wrapped up in their Zionist bubble and arrogance, they are to blind to see that they are the biggest and best delegitimisers of Israel of them all. Please keep up the great work! You contribute more than you will ever comprehend to the advancement of the Palestinian struggle and the delegitimisation of Israel.
30. Bring it on
BDS organizer ,   NYC   (05.19.10)
Israel has just given us (boycott campaigners) a wonderful gift. Here in the US it is becoming easier and easier to show that Israel deserves to be boycotted because it itself has no respect for academic freedom or cultural openness. Eldad and his kind make it very easy for me to make the case that boycotting Israel is the only just thing to do. BOYCOTT, DIVEST, SANCTION ISRAEL
