61. i've read some of chomsky's writing
sean ,   jerusalem   (05.20.10)
chomsky's writings can be quite unimpressive. he writes long run-on sentences that, if you bother to analyze carefully, make no sense. i believe that most people who like his writing are those impressed by complex-sounding speech regardless of any meaningful content. regarding chomsky's career of late, based on making money bashing israel, even those speeches he makes are unimpressive. they are chock full of belittling sarcasm which he could easily reverse contextually and be left with a more meaningful monologue, even if still sarcastic and devoid of professionalism. obviously, bashing israel pays much better than does the world of linguistics. the conclusion is readily reached that there exist people who will prostitute anything for a buck.
62. BADGE OF SHAME FOR ISRAEL FOR BANNING CHOMSKY!!!!
SINGER ,   SINGAPORE   (05.20.10)
63. Dr. Alofs, since you practice medicine in
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.20.10)
Gaza, please inform us about all the books and speakers banned by your employer, Hamas? I'd just like to know given your "informed" opinion of our banning of Professor Chomsky and all that you imagine may follow.
64. Fascinating: liberals who decry NetureiKarta support Chomsky
L ,   Israel/USA   (05.20.10)
When Neturei Karta embarrass their fellow Jews and stand with Hamas, as Chomsky has done, the cry goes out, "throw them out of Israel!" "They are not real Jews!" etc. Oh what venom. BUT when a leftist individual, a Jew who is recognized internationally as an "intellectual" (such nachas!) will do the same, the very same people will stand for his right to "free speech", etc. Free speech for ALL (almost)? Shame on you double standard lefties. Chomsky is a Kapo -- and no less embarrassing than the Neturei Karta in shouting his support to those who would destroy his fellow Jews, and is rightly banned entry to the land he decries and despises.
65. Poor argument
jman ,   sharon   (05.20.10)
Why wouldn't you Mr. Eldad invite Chomsky and engage him in a conversation about ISR. Since you seem so sure that Chomsky only 'curses' israel, perhaps you can prove him wrong through your vast sea of knowledge. You'd actually earn more respect this way rather than you sitting on your office chair and writing non-sense.
66. I saw an interview he is a snake.
ghostq   (05.20.10)
67. Israel is our home and we simply don't want in our home a
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.20.10)
person who has been doing all that is in ability to ensure that it is annihilated, be it in his own writings and talks as well as while collaborating with Israel's most mortal enemies. Isn't it our right to ask that this person not go through the border pass to spew more venom at the Jewish people and its nation-state of Israel? Wouldn't other peoples do the same, and they do of course? So why single out the Jewish people, once again, and its nation-state...??
68. Jewish Jew hater
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.20.10)
There have always been Jewish Jew haters - Jews who hate their own people. In Communist Russia there were Jewish informers. They also existed in Spain during the Spanish Inquisition. Chomsky is a vicious hateful traitor against his own people.
69. To #44
Yehudi ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.20.10)
I burned my first Chomsky book about 20 years ago when I was a student at Sydney University. His books on linguistics are a really bad read.
70. A badge of Taliban, rather
(05.20.10)
Israel proves it belongs among Arab countries.
71. When Bibi was not allowed to speak...
Golan ,   modiin   (05.20.10)
I remember when the left in the US forced the cancelation of Netenyahu's speech in "Th"anfanthithco university. recently Michael Oren's speech was attacked by Islamic Fascists and their supporters. Chomsky was still able to speak unchallenged in Beir Ziet. but he did so by video. So its not what he says that we stopped. Just his entering our country.
72. Eldad on chomsky
Ben ,   Australia   (05.20.10)
Good on ya,tThere is still hope for Israel!
73. A test for all the hypocrites
Tom W. ,   Windsor, Canada   (05.20.10)
So for any of you who are critical of Israel for not letting Chomsky in to the country, here is a test for you: The next time you have a large family gathering and have many sides of your family tree in attendance, if you have a relative who everyone knows is obnoxious, predictable and has a history of putting down every single family member--you need to be the one to insist this relative be invited! Now let's see how popular you'll become within your family circle, who knows maybe they'll even shun you and not invite you to come to the party? Israel is like one big Jewish family, what's the point of allowing crazy uncle Noam Chomsky to crash the family picnic when all he'll do is just rant and rave at all of us?
74. Birzeit is not in Israel.
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (05.20.10)
Perhaps the reality-based world will someday intrude upon the make-believe world of the Ynuts.
75. Chomsky is a hypocrite
mike ,   Oxford UK   (05.20.10)
This man supports a racist academic ban on Israeli professors. (ahmadinajad and other tyrants from all over the world deserve free speech in his warped world view). It's hard to feel sorry for the man.
76. narcsistic fascist this Eldad, indeed
ahmad ,   nablis   (05.20.10)
77. Pol Pot
solemnman ,   israel   (05.20.10)
this venomous individual, who is notorious for his anti israel diatribes ,is also an apologist for Pol Pot.
78. Give the border guard who humiliated Chomsky a promotion
zionist forever   (05.20.10)
79. Chomsky
David Ben Yisrael ,   Amsterdam   (05.20.10)
Thank you for expressing what needs to be said. Chomsky is a cancer for Israel - common sense should always prevail when dealing with a cancer - get rid of it.
80. to #76 not really, just healthy logic
ghostq   (05.20.10)
81. Freedom of speech ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.20.10)
... to echo Justice Homes, does not give one the right to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theatre. Chomsky does not exercise freedom of speech. He exercises license. Which is against the law. He should not be allowed to set one single manicured trotter in Israel or the territories Israel controls, ever. He is a pox upon the land. Let him go lecture in Saudi Arabia. Oh, wait! He cannot! He's Jewish, and they won't give him a visa. Poor Noam. I'm sure they still love you back in Boston. Can anyone spell "herem?"
82. Michael Hess #74 wrong again
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.20.10)
Try international law - all land west of the Jordan is ours. That is what it says, but you like most extreme leftists don't like those laws so you choose to ignore them. Care to show one legal claim by the Arabs? Bet you can't.
83. # 34
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.20.10)
What a load of crock. Israelis are NOT allowed into any of the Palestinian controlled areas. When Israelis enter any of these areas by mistake they are escorted out real fast by the Palestinian police. One can only enter with official permission.
84. # 48
Birdi ,   Israel   (05.20.10)
Nope, Chomsky could not move to Israel tomorow as he wouldnt be allowed in. DUH.
85. #29, we don't need your legitimacy
Jake ,   USA   (05.21.10)
Your legitimacy didn't do us any good in 1948, or in 1967 when the Arab world tried to annihilate Israel. You say that Zionists are delegitimizing Israel, I say we don't ask for, or need your legitimacy. We need our homeland, and we're willing to die fighting for it.
86. Kim in Australia
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.21.10)
I appreciate your attempt to humanize the Arab people for the readers of Ynet. From my perspective, you are partially correct. My son-in-law, who resides on a Yishuv just across the Green Line, works closely with Arabs, appreciates them, has a few close friends amongst them, is a Sephardic Jew and speaks Arabic fluently. What he said was that the Palestinian people are divided by huge (20,000+) extended families. You need to know the particular orientation of each family before you go exploring safely in their midsts. Some are pro-Fatah, others Hamas oriented and still others couldn't care less as long as they are able to make a living and provide for their own children. While Salaam Fayyad is making an admirable effort to find a means of welding these separate Palestinian entities into a collective, the difficulties are enormous. If you turn to the posters at Maan News, many of whom do not reside in the Mideast but in Europe, Canada, the USA, Australia and New Zealand, the considerable number of anti-Israelis will reflexively put all the blame for all of the Arab woes and Palestinian ills on Israel and, secondarily, America. At any rate, I digress. Any Jew walking undefended into a Palestinian area in the Westbank would do well to watch his/her step. In some areas, it's safe, in others, it's not.

89. to #84
dave berg ,   usa   (05.22.10)
Chomsky is a Jew, therefore he has the "right of return". The last time I checked, Israel wasn't taking this right away from diaspora Jews just for speaking their minds. It is ideas and truths that Israel is afraid of, hence the ban on Chomsky speaking in the occupied areas. duh?
90. Powerful message
Helen Freedman ,   New York City, USA   (05.22.10)
MK Dr. Arieh Eldad once again diagnoses the disease of the "internal erosion wrought upon us by the Left and threatening to rot the Center as well." I love the fact that "entry banned" is permanently on Chomsky's passport. It should be a badge of shame for him and is a "badge of honor for Israel."
