1. ethnically cleansing Jews is not not Zionism
Golan ,   modiin   (05.20.10)
excuse me but i was there at the rally (taking pictures not cheering the calls to ethnically cleanse Jews from their homes, divide Jerusalem, turn Israel into a bi-national state) and I noticed that the "nationalist" left of "Zionist" left are calling for an Arab only Palestinian state and a binational Israel. Where is the Zionism here? Whatever the (yet again) final borders are going to be there cannot be Arabs in a Jewish state just as there cannot be Jews in a yet another Arab state. Just as there cannot be a divided Hebron, so too can there not be a divided Jerusalem. Just as there cannot be Jewish settlements in "Palestine" so too there cannot be Arab settlements in Israel. Just as there cannot be a sizable Jewish minority in Palestine so too there cannot be a sizable Arab community in Israel. Just as the left calls for a right of return of Arabs (Geniva Accords) so too should Jews reclaim their homes in Hebron.... these ideas seem to overlap. And so what the rally called for was an end to Zionism under the slogan "Zionism!"
2. The Left Fly Palestinian flag that says it all
ben yaacov ,   herzliya il   (05.20.10)
Not to mention the left give cover to antisemites hatred and delegitimization of Israel. The Left conflate the Settlements with Israel's existence constantly describing Israel as Apartheid and Nazi. They go out of their way to delegitimize Israel at every opportunity. All one hears from the Left is an apology for Israel's existence. They give the nakba narrative credibility. Many if not most of the Left no longer are fighting for a Jewish State they are fighting Israel's Existence. The only thing the Israeli Left were ever loyal to was the 'Left'. When the Socialist ideals Israel was founded on collapsed so did their support.
3. Way out: United Nations Security Council Resolution 242, as
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.20.10)
is. No, we don't want to rule another people, but we also don't to endanger our state which has been the target for annihilation by our neighbors a number of times and to date they still refuse to accept its RIGHT to be. UNSC Resolution 242, as is, calls upon Israel's armed forces to withdraw to from "territories", not from all mind you, to "secure and recognized boundaries". It does not mention even once the need to set up an additional state in these territories nor does it even mention concepts such as "Palestine", "Palestinians" or a "Palestinian state". It assumes Gaza will revert to Egyptian control and most of the West Bank to Jordanian control. The Arab population in the territories can then continue to live as citizens under Egypt in the case of Gaza, and under Jordan in the case of most of the West Bank. But the Arabs, not Israel, refuse to accept UNSC Resolution 242 as is!!! Thus, complains should be directed at them and not at the Jews who reside in disputed territories which are part of the Jewish homeland, even as Ben-Gurion saw it, and the cradle of Jewish civilization.
4. Left fighting for Israel. thats new !
DT ,   TA Israel   (05.20.10)
I have yet to find a "Leftist" who has either been fighting for their own selfish interests or live in a life of delusion and unable to face reality.
5. Don`t get Angry Mr. Yaniv,
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.20.10)
Enough that the Palestinians see all of you Zionists, but I didn't understand what do you mean by ending the occupation (good to say it ) with an agreement or without one?
6. Very eloquent and inspiring
(05.20.10)
It is time to state clearly the damage done by continuing settlement building.
7. Bull! Left "cries" 4 SanFran,LasVeg,Copnhgn Sodom n Mideast!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (05.20.10)
8. i like this, thank you
daniel ,   israel   (05.20.10)
it's time somebody brought reason to the table. so many aspects of this society are so wrong it seems like there is little hope. the greedy are just getting richer, while those who are just get left behind, and then people parade these pigs outside of the country while the normal Joe on the street here in Israel curses them. This is a more realistic Zionism that advocates true values, not arrogance and supremacist ones.
9. Words words words
Max   (05.20.10)
I used to be a leftist too. But I woke up and realized that the so called "peace process" is in fact a destroy Israel process. Starting with the Oslo agreement this process has lead us from disaster to disaster while peace eludes us.
10. keep going
sharon ,   Israel   (05.20.10)
The right is delusional if it thinks that Israel can keep going like his and survive. The biggest joke is their complaining about the new Palestinian city being built. Good for the New Left. Where can we join??
11. Why demand that Jews, only because they are Jewish,
Ram Yogev ,   Kibbutz Sarid   (05.20.10)
should not reside in parts of a region? Don't we have Arabs who reside in our nation-state? Why can't the Arabs have Jews reside in theirs? Any such demand for Jews to vacate their homes is a form of "cleansing" the territories of their Jewish residents in a racist fashion, anti-Jewish racist fashion at that and this must be cease if those Jews who raise PLO flag wish us to consider them patriotic.
12. What a hypocrite
David ,   USA/ISRAEL/EGYPT   (05.20.10)
On one hand you want Israel to have a Jewish majority, on the other, you support and take part in weekly demonstrations in Judea and Samaria waiving Palestinian flags. you also demonstrate in sheikh jarrah. against the state. I don't buy your argument , you are a liar and a hypocrite
13. Fighting for Israel
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.20.10)
Under Leftist rule, Arab forces calling for the extermination of the Gaza in Gaza, Judea, Samaria and Lebanon have received territory, weapons, money and international recognition. About half a million foreign Arabs have moved into Judea and Samaria, and about 400 thousand foreign Arab moved into pre-1967 Israel. Tens of thousands of acres of land in pre-1967 Israel, especially Galillee and Negev are stolen from the Jewish owners and transferred to Arabs. The Israeli Left is leading the world wide campaign to arrest Israeli commanders who fight terrorists, and to boycott Israel culturally, academically, and economically. The Israeli Left calls for rule of Law when it can hurt Jews, yet demands that law not be applied against the Arabs. Some of the leading Leftists fighting for Israel include Anat Kam and Uri Blau. Does Yaniv really think anyone believes what he writes?
14. Content of the article
Amihai ,   Yesha   (05.20.10)
What does this article say us ? Nothing. It's only emotional lamentation. Only concept and "great ideas". But not the least fact or realism or even the slightest mention of the situation, of the questions of gush etzion, jerusalem, which now Yaniv and his friends are happy to give up. But mostly, it is only pure hatred against Yesha inhabitants (even the kibbuztnikim there), against everyone who disagree with them which take us to the understanding that they hates democracy. The last sentences, "leftist thruth= zionist thruth" and "sionists are leftists" show this more than any other things. Only hatred. So sad.
15. to bad their understandings and prescriptions are naive and
ralph   (05.20.10)
16. Leftists don't get it: there's more to "left" than Palestine
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (05.20.10)
The organized left wing in Israel abandoned its own ideologies and principles around 1993 when it decided that the only issue is the Israeli-Palestinian national issue. The left said "give the Palestinians a state and all our problems will go away." Since then, Meretz has crashed in the polls, Labor has bee decimated. The Israeli electorate that used to rely on political parties for social-democratic issues found that there was nobody there. Womens' rights? Social welfare? Poverty? Labor rights? All abandoned for the great goal of the Oslo peace process. And thus, the Israeli public has abandoned the left, whose leaders seem to be blind to the fact that unless they wake up and go back to being true leftists, they'll be looking for new jobs after the next elections. Manifesto shmanifesto. Manifestos need leaders to bring the manifesto to the people. The left wing leaders are not interested. That, is a pity...
17. People who wish to limit the living space of Jews because
Havivah Tzemah ,   Moshav Ein Ayalah   (05.20.10)
they are Jewish are not patriotic to their people, to their country and to humanity and have lost their sense of what being a Zionist is.
18. Subversives
Eric Bravo ,   Washington state   (05.20.10)
You speak like a classic communist agent provocateur who masks his subversive intentions with a patriotic nationalist veneer. That clearly defines who you and the rest of the leftist notables truly are- communist subversives who are plotting to destroy Israel from within. You and your ilk are the worst enemies.
19. "piggish Jews"???????
Dana Rothschild ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.20.10)
what is it? is it you, Mr. Yaniv? HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!
20. Stalinist purges for settlers?
Joseph   (05.20.10)
You have to respect the left. After this stalinst type thinking has led to the deaths of 10's of millions people they still forge ahead with an ideology unchanged. To them settlers are pigs that are only fit for slaughter. They speak of humanistic values but are willing to use fascist methods to silence there opponents and dispose of anyone who stands in their way. They will kill us to save us, if we are stupid enough to give them the chance.
21. The obvious solution - end the occupation
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.20.10)
The Arabs need to return to their own state - Jordan or Egypt I don't care which. International law has is right - all land west of the Jordan belong to us period and cannot be given to any other government or group.
22. Critical mistake Israel made
Mark Bernadiner ,   Pearland, USA   (05.20.10)
In WWII, Soviet Union occupied Eastern Prussia, remover entire German population and renamed it to "Kaliningrad Oblact". Nobody now claim back this area. Britain occupies Falklands and Gibraltar and did the same. Israel mistake is keeping muslims occupying Israel land instead of replacing them back to their origin countries, Lebanon, Syria, Egipt, Jordan, and demand Britan and Jordan to compensate for stolen land and natural resources.
23. Ben Gurion Quote
Df ,   Beer Sheva, Israel   (05.20.10)
Interesting - where is that quote published ? Have never seen it and if you look at the conduct of the war of independence you will see that the reason the Hagana/IDF did not conquer the west bank is because they could not defeat the Jordainian Legion. Just look at what happened at Latrun, as one example. There are two factors Yaniv does not address. The first is historical - after the 67 war, the arabs were offered the conquered land back in exchange for peace. The answer was the 3 nos. Secondly, with all that may be given back, there is one area that Israel should not relinquish and will not relinquish - the area of the Western Wall and the Jewish quarter in the old city. And any palestinian that agrees to leave even one mm of land in israeli hands will be dead within a week. So the answer Mr. Yaniv is unilateral disengagement ? You think that will bring peace ? How about you giving a solution and what the results of that solution will be.
24. Can someone please send Yaniv a copy of the PA Charter!
JAy3 ,   Israel   (05.20.10)
These are the people the Leftists support! Sick!
25. 42 years of wasted efforts is enough
avramele   (05.20.10)
kol hakavod! We must return to the zionism of Ben Gurion andthe dream of Herzl (and even the clear headiness of Jabotinsky), to the pragmatism of Rabin, Alon and Yoseph Burg (when religious zionism was tolerant and understanding)
26. Sounds like a 7th grader at recess ridiculing the kids he
Joseph ,   Bay Area US   (05.21.10)
disagrees with. Pathetic.
27. Author should start group "Leftists for 8 mile wide Israel"
Joseph ,   Bay Area US   (05.21.10)
Lets see how many suicidal lefties, arrogant, delusional and grossly naive at the very same time, come flocking in...
28. The problem with this argument
Danny   (05.21.10)
is that it takes two to tango with a peace deal and Gaza and South Lebanon killed the land for peace formula forever. PS Look at how Ben-Gurion is portrayed now. I wonder if he was going to be blamed for Dir Yassin anyway and those Arabs who killed 1% of Israel population in year - equivalent to 35,000 Palestinians or 5 times the number of Palestinians killed in the last TEN years - whether he would not have conquered the West Bank anyway.
29. settlers are true Zionists
I.Zwick ,   nyc   (05.21.10)
The settlers are the true Zionists who deserve our respect, admiration, and support. They deserve credit for their efforts and sacrifices to reclaim our rights to the liberated Jewish lands in Judea and Samaria.
30. Complicity.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.21.10)
Those who defend the Palestinians uncritically are enablers of murder. Not just the murder of Israelis, about whom they clearly could hardly care less, but the murder of the Palestinian victims of the Palestinian terrorists. The uncritical Palestinian partisans also share responsibility for the blood of the Palestinians who die in Israeli strikes intended to stop the aggression against Israelis and Israeli cities. The Israelis living in Judea and Samaria cannot tolerate the stabbing of Jewish boys by Palestinians (Israel cannot let this go on, while the Palestinians fire more powerful rockets deeper into its territory.) These attacks are the only reason for the Israeli strikes. Those who support the Palestinian “resistance” are aiding the provocation that makes the Israeli strikes necessary. Unless they temper their support with strong and unequivocal criticism of Palestinian aggression, all their sympathy for the Palestinian people is nothing more than crocodile tears as explained at : http://xrl.us/bi5da
