1. Expose the harsh realities of life...
Malone ,   Hfx   (05.19.10)
....in the Arab countries, and they slam the door shut, maybe behead a few people...wouldn't want the truth to come out,oh no,even though everyone knows except the poor people that live there...they think it's normal...
2. al-Jazeera has become CNN
Anon ,   Johannesburg   (05.19.10)
and CNN has become al-Jazeera Dont know which one is worse
3. And we are criticised for
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (05.19.10)
not allowing this Chomsky to enter our country . At least here Al Jazeera journalists can do their ugly anti Israeli job
4. Hey, Al-Jazeera, stick to bashing Israel, you'll be safer.
leo ,   usa   (05.19.10)
The best way to get rid of poverty is not talk about it. Didn't you know, Al-Jazeera?
5. Anon @ 2, let me know when a-J will become like FOX.
leo ,   usa   (05.19.10)
6. Freedom of speech, the Arab/leftist style
Tahl ,   Ashdod   (05.19.10)
It is OK to report everything as long as it shows Israel's oppression of the Palestinians, or America's atrocities in Iraq. But it is not OK to report Arab violence and Arab poverty, as they do not exist. It is OK for Bahrain, Tunisia, Iraq and Algeria ban a news network, but it is not OK when Israel does it, as it is immediately considered a 'fascist' state. It is OK and acceptable for people like Chomsky to say how awful and despicable Israel is, and Israel is even expected to help him. But it is not OK when for a critic of the Muslim world to speak out in a Muslim country, or he's likely to be terminated (try and estimate the life expectancy of Salman Rushdie in Saudi Arabia, or Mosab Hassan Yousef's in Gaza). Hypocrisy, anyone?
7. Translation
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.19.10)
"The Ministry said the decision was taken as result of 'work flaws pertaining to ensuring acceptable processional procedures, and violation of publicity and journalism laws.'" Al Jazeera is only allowed to lie about Israel. That is the extent of its mandate. Its purview does not extend to telling the truth about the Arab world.
8. #5 - I doubt AJ will ever be pragmatic and non-PC like Fox
William ,   Israel   (05.19.10)
They have too heavy an agenda tied to their own wealth and prestige to cover stories that might be critical of themselves or the people they favor. In that regard, they will continue to mirror CNN, BBC, and NYT more than Fox.
9. #3 - Because Leftists love despots
William ,   Israel   (05.19.10)
Leftists L-O-V-E despots like Saddam, Chavez, Bolivar, Mugabe, and A-Jad. They absolutely wet themselves when acknowledge by any of these brutal regimes and rush to defend them. Equally, they attack any one looking like a democratic nation because of two things - if a nation is democratic, they are ripe to be taken over by minority rule using the "racism" tactic, and they are relatively safe to attack the people and the State knowing nothing will really happen to them. The real truth here lies in the fact that Leftists don't attack fascists like Arab States...it's probably because they don't expect much enlightenment from them in the first place.
10. #6 - tahl: hypocrisy
eporue ,   urope   (05.19.10)
they have sharia law, and dont call themselves democracies.
11. #6 & #10.
k1w1 ,   NZ   (05.20.10)
They have sharia law, don't call themselves a democracy, and they aren't part of the OECD. But Israel is addicted to comparing itself to the worst.
12. Osama Bin Laden will be angry...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.20.10)
that his television network has been stopped from broadcasting. Maybe he will use Iranian state television in the future...

thanks for congratulating us upon our entry to the oecd. isn't it wonderful?????
14. Poverty in muslim nations
Agent 007.5 ,   USA   (05.20.10)
Poverty in muslim nations would be the norm if Arabs didn't have so much oil and natural gas. For some strange reason, the control-freak theocracy has a knack of preventing scientific, social, medical, progress and somehow there is no contribution to human advancement and progress, while the rest of the non-muslim world is racing ahead ...in this world are givers and takers, guess who the takers are...
15. al7azeera
maor   (05.20.10)
16. Democracy in the Arab countries.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.20.10)
The Arab leaders in the Middle-East are afraid of peace. They simply cannot afford it. Peace and closer relations with Israel means democracy in the Arab countries, the end of the dictatorship in the Arab countries first, and then, in the Muslim countries. Can the Saudi King Abdullah accept this ? can Basher al-Assad accept this ? can all the petty tyrants of the Arabic Peninsula accept this ? Besides, can the Arab countries abandon Jihad ? In order to understand what that means you should consult : http://xrl.us/bi7kq
17. #10+#11, * friends of sharia law*
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.20.10)
You guys dare to promote sharia law as an excuse for the abolishment of free speech ?? Are You gone nuts ??? Ooooh the sharia law states don't call themselves democracies...so You will concede them also the right to chop off the heads of the nonbelievers...?? I am sure You will... You guys are not part of the Western civilization ---- there is nothing more to say...
18. sad situation
OLAVI ,   Espoo, Finland   (05.20.10)
The arabs concentrate much of their diminutive energy to control and censure opinions and media. All their infra and modern buildings and systems are made by foreiners, because they lack the skills of all kind exept hate of Israel.
19. It's not a "crisis" for Al Jazeera...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (05.20.10)
...it's been a crisis for Iraq, Tunisia, Algeria, and a "two year" ongoing crisis for Israel that yet continues in contrast to the others. Note the wording. "As result of various disputes, network reporters had been banned from Iraq, Tunisia, and Algeria." Note "had been". Israel is still shunning Al Jazeera. Why? If everything is so wonderful why not use Al Jazeera as a megaphone to tell everyone about it? Of course those of us who avidly watch the station still see Mark Regev, lying right through his teeth like any loyal Baghdad Bob would. The mouthpiece gets to speak, and that is what we millions of viewers see, instead of Bibi and the other "leaders" of Israel. Gee, I hope this strategy works out for you.
20. 18 comments and no one read the article...
Michael Hess ,   Charlotte, NC   (05.20.10)
...at least, none of you understand it. This is another example of where Al Jazeera is doing a spot on job of unbiased and in-depth investigative reporting. They are not politically correct. Their reporting on Bangkok is amazing as was their reporting from Iran after the elections and of course the Israeli assault on Gaza civilians at the end of 2008 thru the beginning of 2009. Because of their balance, and coverage that surpasses that of CNN in its hey day, and I should know, if their network news was widely available in the United States the house of cards that is American support for Israel's varied and illegal occupations would be in a word - toast.
21. #7 Sarah,Are you kidding?!
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.20.10)
22. In Dubai...
Tom W. ,   Windsor, Canada   (05.20.10)
It's forbidden for reporters to tell the truth about the economy! This is the problem of tribal Islamic societies when a tribe rules their 'kingdom' no differently than European monarchies did before the advent of the democratic system of government. And unfortunately, as with European history, it looks as if Arab tribalism will not end until a great regional war kills millions of people and then this will see an end to both Arab dictatorships and tribal run kingdoms!
23. #17. Rettenmoser. Yawn... as usual.
