31. FINALLY! real freedom of speech.
shadoil ,   Jerusalem   (05.21.10)
32. Are universities supposed to be indoctrination centers??
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (05.21.10)
According to Liebler and most of the talkbackers, the answer is clearly 'YES'. Rather than regurgitating the same old zionist propoganda, some academics in Israel actually prefer to examine the facts and arguments promoted by both supporters and critics of zionism and come to their own conclusions, whether or not such conclusion is supported by the 'majority' of Israeli Jews or not. According to the author, this is their 'crime' and he wastes no time in labeling them as 'leftists' or 'subversives' or 'Stalinists'. The author and his minions on this forum, wish to suppress, unchallenged by argument, their views. Their real 'crime'? Refusing to go along with the views of the 'tribe'. Thinking for themselves. Trying to weed out the myths and untruths which have permeated the 'popular' and accepted majority view and marshalling facts to buttress their arguments. Those, like the author, are either too lazy, too ignorant or too racist to refute the academic's positions, views and writings. Therefore, such 'academics' must be labelled as 'un-Israeli subversives' and punished in this modern day version of a McCarthyite witch-hunt. You have met the enemy, and he, is yourselves.
33. Mikesailor #32 too late
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.21.10)
The extreme leftists have already turned the universities into indoctrination centers for their point of view. What we want is put an end to the closed society that has infected our universities. We want to introduce freedom of speech for those that do not agree with the left point of view. Strange isn't it - we defend freedom of speech and they hate it and deny it to non-leftists. We have met the enemy and that enemy is the closed mind. Kind of like you and your incessant attacks on Israel.
34. If you have doubt what Radical Israeli
Isel Breshinski ,   USA   (05.22.10)
academics are up to check Israel-academia-monitor.com Or check Neve Gordon, Rachel Giora, Micah Leshem, Ariela Azulai, Jeff Halper just google them and find their intellectual decadence. Nurit Peled -Elhanan, an Israeli professor, her daughter Smadar was killed by a Palestinian homicide bomber- But in Nurit's mind it is only Israel fault! That Hamas execute dissidents and demolish home is OK for them! Lastly, look who is giving them money. Be'Tselem getts money from 16 anti Israeli anti Zionist organizations. Google it. Israeli radical academics get their salary from Israel government and donations of Zionists, but they also get millions from Israel enemies for which they do not pay income tax or it seems so. Israel treasury! Are you asleep? Wake up Israel. The enemy is within. These are the teachers of your children.

solemnman ,   israel   (05.22.10)
fFeedom of speech and academic freedom now trump national survival and life itself.
37. Gee # 33, Total absence of reason
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (05.22.10)
Now, let me follow you reasoning, or lack thereof. Ideas and criticism are the enemy and must be suppressed by the state. Intellectual discourse is a 'leftist; plot, and all those who engage in said discourse must be 'antisemitic leftists' and should be punished. All critics of the 'Jewish' state and its policies are evil and their views must automatically be discounted, not by refuting their arguments, but merely by labeling the critic as an enemy of the 'Jewish' state. Considering the majority of zionists are so ill-educated they believe in the fairy tales espoused by your ilk, I must wonder at the educational system in Israel as a whole. I wonder at a society wherein 'critical thinking' has become so feared and abhorred. I would pity your lack of reason if the only one you would injure was yourself. Unfortunately, in your racist ignorance you threaten all.
38. Thank you!
NU ,   Jerusalem   (05.22.10)
At last I've read an article that clearly and without false embarrassment describes what is going on in our academy. What a shame!
39. Mikesailor #37 try a reading comprehension course
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.22.10)
What Mr. Leibler stated was that the extreme leftists have taken over the universities. They have imposed a gag on anybody speaking that disagrees with them. They support boycotts, the destruction of the State of Israel all the while proclaiming their affiliation with Israeli universities. If they did so private individuals - nobody including me would have an issue. But no that is not good enough for them. Instead they are excusing and abetting treason and terrorism. And whenever anybody says anything about it - they too are demonized and called fascists and McCarthyites. Thus attempting to stop our right of free speech. I am all in favor of them continuing to do so - as private citizens and not employees of the State of Israel. Try learning to read.
40. Leibler on TUA
Jeremy Hayman ,   Sydney Australia   (05.23.10)
Kol HaKavod once again to Isi for spelling it out like it is. What Chutzpa for a state to subsidise those who call for its destruction. Why ought we have to contend with enemies from 'within'. Dayeinu.
41. sad
daniel ,   israel   (05.23.10)
IT sad to see people living a bubble, trying to convince themselves how great and wonderful this country is, and all they can say is how we have some "historic and moral right" to live here. Well, of course we do, but if one is being realistic, morals, values and everything the Jewish people should stand for are quickly vanishing from this country. They might've never existed. It's only about our right to live here, how cool it is, but the country is openly corrupt, the people bent on nepotism and children have no manners or sense of behavior. It really is a sad affair, and only a superficial and vain affluence brought by hi-tech is what keeps people advocating for this place. There is little justice here, and worst of all, it seems like it won't begin either. It's become a country for the rich and corrupt, while the poor and underprivileged, both Arab and Jew are bearing the brunt of elitist oppression. I mean, where is God where you need him? Obviously Jews have become the Israel of the past, worshiping idols like Zionism, hi-tech and "ritzy Tel Aviv cafés". They will delude themselves, and only Jerusalem will stand in the end, with its few protectors until the oncoming demise. Apocalyptic thinking? Of course. It's so evident from the corruption of the human mind here that it's appalling.
42. Gee#39, Poster Child for Israeli Hypocrites
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (05.23.10)
Now, let me see. Israel has been run my right-wing governments since the death of Rabin. So, apparently the 'left-wing' has not been in charge in Israel for ---How many years, Gee? And Rabin wasn't really a 'leftist' either, was he? After all, Israel accelerated settlement building during his tenure, correct? I have never heard of any Israeli academic advocating the suppression of speech by anyone, have you? I have never heard any Israeli 'leftist' calling the right-wingers traitors or treasonous, likewise. They have marshalled facts and logical arguments to promote their views, while you have come to the battle of ideas bereft of any reason, facts or logic. Actually, Gee, you might benefit from a logical reasoned discourse but then, of course, you might have to expose yourself to the world of ideas, rather than remaining blind within your anti-intellectual cocoon.
43. Mikesailor #42 poster child for anti-Semites
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.23.10)
Israel has not ever had a right wing government. In any other country in the world Bibi would be considered an extreme leftist. That is a fact. If you haven't heard Israeli academics demanding the suppression of free speech it is because 1 you are stupid, 2 you are deaf, 3 you are too busy telling us what to do to listen. Take your choice moron. I and everybody here can give you thousands of examples of exactly what you claim has never happened. You might try learning something about a country that you have continually castigated. To date you have shown that you have no idea about anything here, you have no knowledge. Not surprising from a racist living in a land where the natives were murdered and their land stolen. We refuse to allow invaders to do the same to us. Don't like it - TFB
