1. Hamas doesn't care about Pal'n prisoners
Shazam ,   USA   (05.24.10)
Why should Hamas care what happens to Palestinian prisoners when they treat Palestinian women, children (combatants) and human shields worse than dogs? This policy would only bring Israel more worldwide condemnation and not result in Hamas becoming desparate to make a deal for Shalit.
2. "Palestinians"
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.24.10)
Their tribal leaders do not give a damn about the detainees. They will simply use the next generation for their terror attacks.
3.  feel pity for Shalit, from you more than Hamas
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.24.10)
Pressure may generates Explosion which no one can control it...Sooner or later, the Shalit deal will see the light, so if you respect yourself, then stop wasting time and trying to manipulate and play old games
4. Amazing!
Steve   (05.24.10)
I am astonished these killers are given all these privileges ESPECIALLY in light of the fact Hamas is holding Shalit without visits; even the benefit of visits by the International Red Cross. Are the Jews nuts?
5. Israel arrested/ killed most of Hamas' leadership, whos left
Bloodyscot ,   Dallas, Texas   (05.24.10)
The middle level thugs are now running Gaza, who can't or are unwilling to make a deal, some are afraid of lose their positions of power. This is part of the reason Israel is releasing some of the elected leader from Gaza. In some ways it was a mistakes to arrest them after killing many of the top leaders, since the remaining ones only know how to fight, not rule or make deals.
6. Wrong theory: It's "matching" their rights to Shalit's
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (05.24.10)
What we need is an Israeli leader with the gonads to declare the following: "I, the prime minister of Israel, have issued orders on my authority to match the rights of all Hamas prisoners in Israeli jails to the same rights as Gilad Shalit, being held prisoner by Hamas." "As of this moment, the military and prisons authority received orders to wit: "-no Hamas prisoner will be allowed visits of any kind, either lawyer, family or any other visitor. Medical care will be provided if needed" "-no Hamas prisoner will be allowed any communications with the outside world, save for a single video of a prisoner picked at random who will read a prepared statement. This will be allowed at the end of 2011" "-the International Red Cross will not be allowed any access to the Hamas prisoners" "As prime minister, I take complete and sole responsibility for these orders. I acknowledge that these order contravene various international laws and codes of conduct, and I take these steps with deep regret, however, the reality is that the international community has failed to hold Hamas accountable to international law." "These steps are immediate and will only be revoked when the International Red Cross is allowed access to Gilad Shalit as dictated by international laws and treaties." "If the families of Hamas prisoners want access to their loved ones being held in Israeli jails, do not come to me. Your address is Hamas." "I will have no further comment on this issue until after Gilad Shalit is released."
7. selma
abraham ,   toronto   (05.24.10)

8. no. 2
fa   (05.24.10)
So Palestinians should have F-15s, F-16s, Apaches, Tanks and White Phosphorus also, same as the "Israelis"
9. Palestinians maybe forced to capture more soldiers
Jazz   (05.24.10)
10. Bad idea: suffering there means suffring here
Jalal ,   Gaza   (05.24.10)

11. no. 2
fa   (05.24.10)
So Palestinians should have F-15s, F-16s, Apaches, Tanks and White Phosphorus also, same as the "Israelis"
12. This is a waste of time: We must do LAND FOR LIFE policy
Tomer ,   Herzeliyya   (05.24.10)
The only way to get Gilad back is for Tsahal to take lets say 30% of Aza. Expel all Arabs from there but keep their property intact. Tell them they can ALL return to their homes once Gilad is released. NO GIlad = NO Arabs return Also if they kill Gilad, we will ANNEX the Land. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY.
13. Good move
oxo ,   USA   (05.24.10)
REPEAT... "They (terrorist prisoners only) shouldn’t be getting televisions, newspapers, visits, conjugal visits, letters, phone calls, or academic studies." This is good, their families will put pressure on HAMAS. The higher ranking ones in prison will exert the most pressure. Hoping for a very positive outcome as far as Shalit is concerned.
14. not true
omar ,   gaza   (05.24.10)
i dont think Gillad dont have tv, education, newspapers, health care and such lux, and u will c when he get free
15. The liberation of Gilead Shalit. Is there an other option?
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.24.10)
Only a complet closure of the borders of the Gaza Strip, no electricity, no fuel no food, no humanitarian and medical assistance, nothing, without any exception AS LONG AS NEEDED, will bring to the liberation of Gilead Shalit. There should be no other option. More over the problem of kidnapped soldiers at : http://xrl.us/em3de
16. Bad idea, Jalal, we're not talking about kids
Brian Cohen ,   PeoplesFront ofJudea   (05.24.10)
If it was kids being released from prison in exchange for Shalit, Israelis would support it yesterday. But check your facts, Jalal. The last I read about it, Hamas had a list of some of their top terrorists they want released - guys who have killed or organized the killings of dozens of Israeli civilians. These are not kids, but adult murderers. You have the wrong information, Jalal.
17. Don't Treat Criminals or POWs ..
Christy ,   Boston, US   (05.24.10)
.. as if they are away on a vacation. Keep to whatever it is the law requires for prisoners. Prisoners don't need all the comforts of a 4-star hotel. Don't expect this change in treatment to win any friends nor will it change the minds of any terror groups with regards to Shalit. Going by past history the terror groups will claim Israel is treating prisoners inhumanely. Israel should stand up to the pressure, allow inspections, etc. from groups like the Red Cross to affirm prisoner conditions are according to law and prisoners are treated humanely. This won't entirely quiet the critics, because only Israel's total collapse would suffice to do that. On the positive side, if Israel hangs tough, it will give the message that Israel isn't a soft touch. This message needs to be given in as many ways as possible to the enemies Israel faces. Israel has given in so many times that her enemies feel free to treat her with contempt. Israel's enemies admire strength, not the weakness Israel has shown for so many years. Israel's G*d doesn't sleep. He is strong enough to defeat all Israel's enemies.
18. is the author of this article a child or does he just think
jack ,   jer is   (05.24.10)
like one?
19. a voice of reason. end
Barney ,   USA   (05.24.10)
20. #8 fa
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.24.10)
An interesting answer - but obviously to a different question. And, by the way, just as you don't give matches to little children, you don't give advanced weapons to "Palestinians".
21. Only Israel is criticized for obeying international law
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.24.10)
Whereas the Arabs are never criticized for violating those exact same international laws. We should instead announce that our treatment of Arab prisoners will be the exact same as their treatment of our people. Now that would be fair.
22. Arrogance
Ali ,   Gaza   (05.24.10)
Heyyy stop this Arrogance ...Hamas Demand is fair .. Release Palestinian Prisoners to release Shalit !!otherwise let us wait and see who will beg !!!
23. the difference
thommy ,   germany   (05.24.10)
between israel and the hamas is that israel doesnt treat people like dirt and that israel cares about human rights so if israel stops that for the sake of one soldiers life its simply stupid in war people become prisoners and hes only one guy one should hope for his liberation but but hes only one guy
24. #22 Ali
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.24.10)
Do you think, one Jew is worth thousand Muslims? Or why else do you think you can free all the Palestinian thugs in Israeli prisons for the release of Gilad Shalit?
25. 22
abraham ,   toronto   (05.24.10)
"its fair' says whom ? you ? LOL
26. Thommy from Germany
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (05.25.10)
One soldier, one Jew, is woth a great deal to us. Therefore, we are all, as a collective, very concerned about the well-being of Gilad Shalit. That is our mentality, Thommy, one which differentiates us from Arabs where life is cheap and officially dishonoured. As one Hamas chief said (on video): "We Arabs appreciate death the way you Jews love life." I hope this explanation helps you to understand the cultural differences, Thommy.
27. Israeli Morality
GMB ,   Bristol UK   (05.25.10)
Reading these posts makes it clear how depraved Israel has become.
