The Last Zionist ,   Eilat   (05.26.10)
Kfar Kassem is synonymous with a horrible chapter of Jewish-Arab in Israel. These young people are looking forward to better future.
4. Good for them
Israeli   (05.26.10)
Both communities need to work together to ensure equality and better lives for all.
5. to #1 y people speak today in riddles!!!
ghostq   (05.26.10)
Tom? Tom from the book "the tent of uncle Tom?" you do awar he was afrikan amerikan slave, well jews also were slaves by Egyptians, which doesn't make any sense. (scraching my head over this one) uncle Sam is the amerikans, Tom? no idee.
6. Missiles dont distinguish between people
Daniel ,   Tel Aviv   (05.26.10)
Everyone within the borders of Israel will be at risk from the threat posed by fundamentalists who's aim is to wreak havoc on Israel. This is our country, and we share a future. Serving in national service, or emergency units is a good way to bridge the gap with the Arab community that generally does not want to serve in the IDF. Great idea, and let's keep this country, and the people in it safe.
7. #1 you are the hope for peace
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (05.26.10)
It is good to hear that you live in Sweden. Please stay there with your racist beliefs and collect your social benefits. We don't want you here.
8. FANTASTIC! (end)
Josh Simon ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.26.10)
9. #1 would apparently prefer dead Arabs...
Zvi   (05.26.10)
... and empty gestures. These women are in the Home Front Command. In war-time and peace-time, they will save civilian lives. The most obvious benefit of having female Arab rescue personnel is that they will be able to help older, deeply conservative Muslim Arab Israeli women who only speak Arabic and who feel uncomfortable talking to male rescuers and can't communicate with non-Arabic speaking women. But regardless, these rescuers are women who are going to rescue people. Maybe in Israeli Jewish towns. Maybe in Israeli Arab towns. Maybe in Haiti or Kenya, some day. Some of them are future doctors, who will benefit dramatically from their service (as will their patients). These women will make a positive difference. Their families and their community leaders are proud of them. But idiots like #1 prefer to insult them. I guess #1 prefers to see people (Arabs, Jews and others) die. But hey, that's not at all unusual for Israel's enemies. Israel is also a lot more complex and human than the caricatures that show up in the media in Sweden. Some day, 2 of these women will likely be doctors in a hospital in Israel - hijabs and all, if that's what they want to do. And of course the man who came up with the idea is an Israeli Arab Lt-Col. Clearly Israel is SUCH an apartheid state, in which Arabs just can't expect any fair treatment... .
10. good for them. good for iraeli-arabs good for peace. why are
ralph   (05.26.10)
the weman leap frogging over the men. it will be the israeli-arab man who will be left behind.
11. To all here--bar @1 The cynical Said living in>>
KATE ,   ISRAEL   (05.26.10)
Sayid living in the comfort of Sweden. I for one approve of it,providing these Arab women do not turn the tables on us JEWS/ISRAELIS,and that their endeavour is genuine. We wait and see.
12. Show us some pictures
daniel   (05.26.10)
And make us proud. Come on, imagine the effect this would have if people could post pictures of religious muslim women in Israeli uniforms.
13. ARAB = curse
Sam ,   Haifa   (05.26.10)
To Roni Shaked, please do not use the term ARAB ......your address to the 16 year old female is as if you are cursing her, this woman is an Israeli Citizen. The way you say in your article ARAB is a kind of a curse projection.
14. GREAT!
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (05.26.10)
Now that is good news. It is the way the country should be run. Moslems are Moslems and Jews are Jews but we can work and live together!
15. thats nice

17. Another lie?
Yoav ,   Jerusalem   (05.26.10)
I thought Israel was an apartheid state. It's a funny state of apartheid when those being racially discriminated against are actually part of the countries security organs. Can't say i remember that happening in South Africa...
18. Israeli govn't should promote this
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
Excellent news, hope to see more Israeli arabs joining UDF speciall home from command
19. Refreshing reading posts of Israeli Jews
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
the positive posts of Iaraeli jews gives me hope and if anything shows that in reality people inside Israel, jews and arabs do want to coexist, it is th epolitics and politicians that are in the way
20. the only word that comes to mind
roli ,   miami beach, USA   (05.26.10)
is shukran. There have always been volunteer Bedouin and Druze with us in infantry and scout platoons, as well as their own company's. The addition of women to their ranks will improve moral and initiative, especially if they specialize in training: as is the custom in the IDF.
21. Ths is wonderful
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.26.10)
I would like to see more stories like this one.
22. Rami one thing that puzzle me is:Why?>>
KATE ,   ISRAEL   (05.26.10)
Rami why is it necessary to wear a "burqa"? I mean if they are going to wear helmets for protection during the exercises and in actualite. So what is the point? I mean it is not deemed to be religious dictum.it is merely modesty don't you agree? And in the army modesty is hardly a thought that comes to mind, when one is getting dirty, uniforms full of mud etc it is silly to wear a burqa. You do understand my point don't you? Anyway, hope all goes well, and little steps to normality may speed up into friendship yes?
23. to # 22: Kate - coexistance is alive, I hope it spreads..
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
coexistance alreayd exists in israel, whether is mixed cities or work places that have jews & arabs, I just hope it spreads all over the country.....
24. to kate #22: burqa is "wrong"
Rami of Nazareth ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
We christians believe "God created us in his image", we should be proud of the way we look and nothing to be covered or hidden. As far as Burqa, I agree with the interpetation of the school of thought in Islam that say it is not required. To me, currently burqa represents nothing more that radicalization and intolerance.
25. Spoken like a true Christian Rami thanks
KATE ,   ISRAEL   (05.26.10)
Firstly I thank yio for your sensible post and the content written within. But then yiou are a Christian and hope all goes well in our country and the rest may fall into place by and by. But we have a sisyphean task I fear Rami. Nevermind time will tell.
26. Traitors
Steve ,   USA   (05.27.10)
Arabs who serve in the Israeli military, that occupied, kills and massacres their people are traitors and are part of an apartheid criminal system that carried dozens of massacres against the Palestinians, they are serving a state established in Palestine by killing and murdering the Palestinians they are helping a state that classifies itself as a Jewish, if not Zionist, state that sees them as aliens who must be removed SHAME ON YOU
27. FAO Uncle Sven's house arab
aparatchik ,   Scotland   (05.28.10)
Shouldn't you be hunting cartoonists?
