1. "second intifada was a major mistake"-so was not accepting
Alan ,   SA   (05.26.10)
1947 UN resolution! AND lots of otherPal and Arab States' activities to try to destroy Israel since then .
2. Diplomacy, my foot
Jackie ,   Florida   (05.26.10)
Abbas was the father of the Munich massacre, his speech is a compilation of lies. and, like many Arabs, he prefers to blame others for his plight, not himself
3. Peace
zznhl   (05.26.10)
Peace could be achieved within a week if the Palestinians where to give up terrorism, delete the proviso for the destruction of the state of Israel from their constitution, open freed trade with Israel amd agree to the land for land terms as expressed by the Israeli government. Simple...Just do it for G-ds sake and our childrens!
4. Facts
Serge ,   Antwerp, Belgium   (05.26.10)
the facts are that the Palestinians refuse to negotiate with the Israeli's. Americans had to put a lot of energy for proximity talks, which are indirect talks since Mahmood Abbas does not want to meet Netanyahu, he has refused to meet him since he was elected last year.
5. No, Mr. President,
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.26.10)
The problem is not in the intifada, but, unfortunately, happened with the second intifada, just as happened with the first, the total failure of political leaders to transform the sacrifices of our people into political achievements, we need a leader like Hassan Nasrallah. When Abu Mazen will resign?!!
6. for Abbas, to "actively pursue peace" means to bow down and
(05.26.10)
give them whatever they want.
7. so build a time machin, I think it is lil too late
ghostq   (05.26.10)
to say historicaly we made mistakes, especially when you used your third chance Israel gave you for violance, the first was riots in jaffa in the 30's, just because his memory have lapses doesn't mean the others forgot.
8. Abbas is a Soviet-trained professional liar
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (05.26.10)
The so-called "Intifada" was orchestrated by Abbas himself, as Arafat's administrator and right-hand man, for the purpose of pressuring Israel to "sweeten the deal" that Arafat rejected in the Clinton talks. He is still at it. The hand-over of Gaza to Hamas was also orchestrated by Abbas, who ordered his US trained and equipped troops there to stand-down, so he could create a military option against Israel. It was blunder in hindsight, but it was deliberate, to keep the conflict alive instead of building on Israel's peace gesture. Abbas then launched a Goebellsian international campaign to demonize and wear down Israel. The USSR may be dead, but its trained puppet is still running on automatic. There is no peace specifically because this guy has been in charge for the last 17 years, pulling the strings and keeping the conflict alive vs. settling, because that is what he was trained to do. The only peace he wants is one that doesn't recognize Israel as the Jewish State, a non-starter - the same mistake the Arabs made 63 years ago, and keep making. But its not a mistake to them, its their goal, and throwing the "2nd Intifada" under the bus claiming Arafat goofed is just a tactic for the gullible. Peace can't happen in "a week" because Abbas and the Arab League still won't recognize Jewish Israel, and want Obama to pressure Israel to drop this demand - Obama can't deliver on this: he'd like to, but the American people and Congress won't allow it (which he has just learned the hard way, hence his change of tone and idiotic "charm offensive"). The only just 2-state deal now is much less for the PA than the Clinton Deal they rejected - a fair penalty for launching the "2nd Intifada". Why give them a free pass?
9. The dispute has never been about borders.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (05.26.10)
Unlike the Nazis who carefully concealed the Final Solution, Hamas and the Palestine Authority openly avow their intentions in their Charter and Covenant and in the Arab media which is available in English on the Internet on MEMRI and the Palestinian Media Watch. More at : http://xrl.us/bezu2h
10. Yes, it's our major mistake.
Palestinian people   (05.26.10)
'Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas admitted on Monday that the second intifada was a major mistake for the Palestinian people'. Ever learning and never able to understand...
11. PEACE IN ONE WEEK! JUST SURRENDER AND GO AWAY!
jewish doctor ,   NYC USA   (05.26.10)
ABBass would love for the Israeli's to turn Israel over to him for the carving, the devastation, dis-Jewing of the ME. Get rid of him, he is the cork in the bottle.
12. To #5
AlbertoGA ,   St. George, USA   (05.26.10)
With your Terrorist mentaly there is only one solution. Go and take a cold shower !
13. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.10)
Salma, if you want a leader like Hassan Nasrallah, why don't you move your sorry ass to Lebanon? I'll help you pack. You will NOT be missed. Trust me.
14. Hahaha, Nasrallah, #5?
John ,   Europe   (05.26.10)
You would be a) ostracized from the rest of the world, with big red targets on your forehead, ready to be hunted down b) left in poverty to eat the stones and drink the sand c) not recognized as a nation, but just as a bunch of crooks and murderers d) all of above. I think "d" fits the most - you don't?
15. As with all their 'mistakes'
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.26.10)
It was a mistake because it didn't work, nothing more is what he really said
16. Oslo was a trojan horse where the trap door
Logic ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
opened a few years early.
17. and in other news, the pope is catholic
mike ,   israel (formerly usa   (05.26.10)
of course it was a mistake. that's why the palestinians are threatening another intifada - if it's a disaster, they will do it again and again.
18. Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them.....
AJ ,   Washington, DC   (05.26.10)
It's amazing that they think everybody doesn't know that Arafat and Abas organized the whole thing.
19. Sarah #13
Resistor   (05.26.10)
You keep offering to help people pack, but no-one is leaving, Sarah the B. And your words are becoming more and more gypsy trailer parkish-who is helping you??
20. #5 = Salma you are really a sad case.
(05.26.10)
Narallah? I guess you want your people to live in stateless poverty forever. How stupid could you be. Palestinians are maybe the stupidest people on earth.
21. #13 Sarah B,When you grow up and will respond to you,
Salma ,   Palestine   (05.26.10)
Do not forget to drink milk
22. #5 You are right Abu Mazen is weak.
BJL ,   usa   (05.26.10)
But you have a Nasrallah of your own named Khaled Mashaal. He also lives like a rodent underground. I agree though, that is better than Abu Mazen. At least Nasrallah and Mashaal are clear in their intent. It would be easier to fight them and win since they dont wear western clothes a fake peaceful intent like Mazen.
23. Encouraging
Yoni Ish-Hurwitz ,   New York   (05.26.10)
Abbas also said (missing in this article) that he would go to the security council if talks fail. A great non-violent alternative to a third intifadah. I blogged about this at yoniish.com.
24. To: No. 19
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.10)
Gypsy trailer parkish? I'm sorry, but I don't know what that is, and -- frankly -- I really don't care.
25. Real mistake
David ,   USA, exile   (05.26.10)
It was Abbas' mother that made the mistake. She should have slapped the doctor and thrown away the baby.
26. ABBAS DENIES RESPONSIBILITY....IN ADVANCE. WORRY
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne,   (05.26.10)
Decode the message. Arafat wasn't responsible for the 2nd intifada although he instigated it;Abbas won't be responsible for a 3rd intifada that he'll instigate. Looks like we know what Abbas has in mind for when Obama's ridiculous proximity talks draw to their inevitable deadlock because of the PA's unrealisable demands and its failure to negotiate in good faith. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
27. to Salma
roli ,   miami beach, USA   (05.26.10)
Why do you need Nasrallah to be your leader? Because he wears a turban and mimics the words and gestures of Osama Bin-Laden? I have never heard Abu Mazen admit that his doctoral thesis of holocaust denial was a mistake. He's your boss and you can't impeach him, elect his replacement, or denounce him without fear of repression. You can't even do that with a Mayor in a village, because he appoints them. He's just another one of those Tunis boy's that carpet bagged every peaceful business created in Judah and Samaria into Swiss bank accounts throughout the 17 years since Madrid. Now he tells you to burn food while children and families suffer from hunger, That's politburo business, not statesmanship. You need a leader who will speak to the Jewish settlers as though they are the brave ones, (the only ones who will be directly effected by status agreements) then maybe you will have a normal real-estate market. You will not get a committed communist like Abu Mazen to ever do that. Do you really want to continue having Sheiks running your lives from plantation mansions surrounded by overpopulated refugee camps with no plumbing? That's what you get with Nasrallah. ie... more of the same.
28. #21 - I like that one ! lol
(05.26.10)
29. bunch of b.s!
OZ   (05.26.10)
