1. Do they know?
(05.26.10)
Does the Government not realize that this is why people around the world refer to Israel as an apartheid state? No hasbara department can justify kicking one race out and putting another race in. This is pure racism no matter which way you cut it, and it must be stopped. Zionism was not intended to be conducted this way.
2. Way To Go! You Make Me Proud!
Avraham ,   Jerusalem   (05.26.10)
I'm glad to see Israelis with a conscience that also see the threat that the Kahanist settlement in Sheikh Jarrah poses - the fact that the court's ruling basically recognizes the right of return. If Jews can regain the property that they owned before 1948, now Arabs can get back their property in places like Jaffa, West Jerusalem, Ramat Aviv and so on... Is this what the right supports? If so maybe they should vote for BALAD. This shows that the struggle in Sheikh Jarrah is a true Zionist struggle.
3. No Heart?
Jack ,   LA, USA   (05.26.10)
Where were these professors when Jewish residents were thrown out of their homes? Hypocrites!!!
4. silly naive intellectuals
ralph   (05.26.10)
5. Shocking reporting by Y-Net
Akiva   (05.26.10)
The "arabs" being evicted were squatters and the people you call "settlers" were the legal owners of the property. This is a shockingly biased piece of reporting from Y-Net.
6. as if they view us as human......................
ed   (05.26.10)
please, you bleeding hearts. If you'd only been there for Gush Katif with similar signs and heartfelt emotions. But, NO. You are one sided for the enemy, simple and clear. Many cases have not seen your faces because it was Jews who need the rachmanut.
7. They are jordanians not Palestinians
Ely Greenhut ,   Tzfat Israel   (05.26.10)
Where were theses professors when Jordan drove all the Jews out of East Jerusalem ? Jews who lived there since the Temple was destroyed?? Jordan should take them back.
8. I don't believe in evicting families from their homes
rivka ,   israel   (05.26.10)
Were you people out demonstrating to save Gush Katif? 8000 people were evicted, actually thrown out to the wolves. Where were you then?
9. Oh, stop already
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.10)
When Germany was reunified, have you any idea how many people from the West came to Leipzig and other points east, and reclaimed their homes? The German government allowed it and even facilitated it. A lot of people found themselves unceremoniously evicted from the homes in which they had lived since the end of the Second World War. Does that make Germany an apartheid state? Or is that an appellation that is exclusively reserved for Jews who wish to reclaim their property?
10. Proud of the academy
Ted   (05.26.10)
It is good to know that these intellects in the country are not just teaching and discussing subjects inside classrooms but they truly care about the country and people. They are the ones that know how to make peace with their neighbours. May mercy and justice triumph in this nation.
11. #1 - not kicked out because of "race"
William ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
The families in these houses were NOT evicted because of race. No matter how you try to spin it, their eviction was 100% based on legality. They do not own the house, and another family does. The Arabs refused to pay rent to the owners and admitted they did not own the house, but based their argument ONLY on time lived there. That doesn't work!! The Arab family was given several years to come to an agreement on rent and refused. The next option was eviction. It's like that all over the world. Because you demand that Arabs be treated with different laws, then Jews or anyone in any other country, same situation, YOU are imposing an Apartheid situation. You're racist, pure and simple.
12. Self-serving professors looking for notariety
William ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
These professors cry about Intl Law yet they are the first to break the very basic laws of their own land. To claim the evictions in Sheik Jarrah are akin to racism is absurd, because to leave the Arab families in the homes would break many laws which mirror ownership laws in countries all over the world. Here is a clear case of Leftist Apartheid-mentality and racism. The Arab families and a Jordanian legislature even admitted the homes were taken from Jews and given to Arabs without payment or legal documents. It was an illegal act by Jordan and MUST be reversed. No one, except UK and Pakistan, accepted Jordan's rule over E. Jlm and WB.
13. Crowd protested against the entrance of Jews to Arab city
William ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
Um, isn't this the exact definition of racism and Apartheid? Keeping Arab cities purely Arab (one race) while demanding non-Arab cities be open to everyone?
14. Where are the counterprotestors?
Tony   (05.26.10)
Come out and bring out bottles of urine to deal with them properly. Clearly, these "professors" don't care for property rights, only want Arabs to squat on others' property.
15. #13, this is not an Arab city.
Tony   (05.26.10)
16. It's the professors who have no heart - OR BRAINS!!!
marlene ,   Philadelphia, USA   (05.26.10)
too many liberal, leftard professors in Israel. The US has 'em too. Must be a disease - mental, that is!
17. #16 PROFESSORS WITH NO BRAINS, COMMON IN ACADEMIA
..........DACON9   (05.26.10)
18. Eviction
Michael Pielet ,   boca raton, israel   (05.26.10)
Evict the professors and students from Israel. Send them to Syria, they will be happier there.
19. So the thieves should be allowed to keep what they took
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.26.10)
Doesn't work that way. The legal owners want their property and these 'professors' are against that. In no other country in the world would this be an issue. Nor have I heard of other places where apartheid is so much in vogue either.
20. facts, facts, facts
new nick ,   humid city, EU   (05.26.10)
This article somehow authenticates another one, complaining about leftist elites. Those ppl seem not to care about the law/ court rulings. If only they bothered about properly (!) informing themselves. Obviously, they do not, isn't it??
21. To all those who say it is not racism
sh   (05.26.10)
Please speak to the settlers living in the houses they threw the Arab families out from. I quote: "They (pointing to the families) are murderers. Me: "which of them are murderers, point them out to me". "All of them are murderers". Me: "How can you say that?" Answer: "they are Bnei Yishmael". The government is using rabid racists (I have many other examples) in order to push its nationalist agenda. These people are being allowed to represent us, you and me. Go down there and judge for yourselves.
22. If Jews can reclaim homes in Sheikh Jarrah...
David   (05.27.10)
Then Arabs must be allowed to reclaim their homes in West Jerusalem and all other cities throughout Israel. All of you who cry this is racism against Jews--do you understand the problem even? The Israeli government allows JEWS to reclaim their pre-war property, but forbids Arabs from doing the same and reclaiming THEIR pre-war property. If that is not racist, then I don't know what is.
23. #15 - I agree with you. Just reciting Leftist claims
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
Leftists have often said E. Jerusalem is "Arab" and that no non-Arabs should be allowed to live in this "Arab city". Their words, not mine.
24. #21 - Aren't you stretching the truth a bit?
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
I don't believe there is a law on whether you can be a racist or not. In a land of freedom, you can be as vile or as saintly as you want, as long as you do not trample on the rights of others. So, the fact that this person you spoke to might be a racist, does not negate the fact that legally, the Arabs living their did NOT own the house. That's not a racist act. It's a legal one and the courts have justified it as so. Infact, if you base your claim solely on the fact that you do not like this Jew who now lives there, and make a further claim that the "nicer family" should live there instead - aren't you abdicating circumventing laws altogether in order to appease your own narrow perspective of how the world should work? Law is the law - and being judged evenly under it is the highest form of democracy. Sorry it didn't work in your favor this time.
25. #22- Easy. Jews didn't start the genocidal war
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
and those that left ran because they were either involved in the attacks or out of false fear driven into them by Al-Husseini. With the end of the war in 1948, the UN resolution called for those who left property to be allowed to return IN RETURN for an end to aggression against Israel. Arabs did NOT agree, therefore they were not allowed to return. Infact, those same Arabs today refuse that deal. Yet, the Arabs living in Jerusalem and Abu Ghosh have stayed and flourished just fine.
26. #22 - Addendum to previous post
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
I meant to say that Jews were illegally ethnically cleansed from their houses and E. Jerusalem which was with a majority of Jews. Arabs were not forced to leave nor ethnically cleansed by Jews inside Israel, hence the large Arab population, especially around Jeruslem...blah blah blah. You get the point.
27. it was an amzaing march. a very important involvement

28. The Marching Intellectuals
martin ,   USA   (05.28.10)
They say these houses belong to Jews, and even if it's true, it's still doesn't make it just. says Dr. David Sarfati, an Intellectual, a professor! Is he of sound mind? Truth is not necessarily "just." Is that what he's saying? If squatters occupied someone's home for many years and always paid the property tax courts have justly reasoned the owner had effectively abandoned the property and lost whatever title he may have had. That's just. One is left wondering if that is the Arab's contention to avoid expulsion. We are not told the "truth." Too much intellectualism will affect rational thought. The reason is it becomes inflexible in its own conceit. of what it holds to be "true," which may turn out to be false. There may still be "intellectuals" who debate the Ptolemaic or Copernican view of the universe, or some such issue as how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. [ I'm serious. I did not make this up] A mind and body of Science, however, is linear. Over time knowledge of truth accumulates and the past "truth' now empirically false is quickly forgotten. We call this "progress." I don't mean to pick on elitist Jews. I am sometimes said to be an "intellectual" and I smile discerningly at an ingenious argument even if I think it's stupid. But were I an Israeli with the imminent fear of annihilation intellectualism is not a luxury I can enjoy at the moment. Israel is a ship at sea in clear danger of capsizing and on the bridge we find some of the crew distracting the helmsman without any attempt, if should they be competent seamen, to take hold of the wheel and steer themselves. Intellectuals, stay below deck, until the storm has passed. or come take the wheel if you're so smart.
