3. Curious
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.26.10)
That someone named Al Masri should be considered Jordanian. Doesn't it mean "the Egyptian?"
4. These mumzarim never stop!!
jb ,   Canada   (05.26.10)
Have they asked the Palestinians how they feel? "Holy" river...my ass! Maybe Syria and Jordan will get into a war over who should annex the west bank. They both would love to do it and would have already except for the fact that Israel has stopped them (Jordan did in 1948). Assad is probably coming in his pants just thinking about it.
5. Well now the "palestinian" ruse has come full circle
moishe ,   usa   (05.26.10)
6. "Palestinians"
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.26.10)
Give the Gaza Strip to Egypt and the West Bank to Jordan, and let them take care of their brethren.
7. Jerusalem and Jordan
(05.26.10)
One thing is for sure if Jordan was ever to take the westbank it would take the old city and jerusalem with it or at least demand it something i think both israelis and palestinians dont want and trust me they would ask and fight for it if needed!
8. How can Jordan have an independence day?
William ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
They were created through the force of a colonial power in a land they never lived before. Exactly what is Jordan celebrating independence from? Lawful reality??
9. more babble from jordan

Salma ,   Palestine   (05.26.10)
eat your heart !
12. A confederation?
Nour ,   Palestine   (05.26.10)
Not a bad idea, to join the West Bank to Jordan for a stronger country. However, we would never accept Hijazi rule and the English king is illegitimate. Either a constitutional monarchy with separation of powers or NO THANK YOU.
13. Doesn't Ashkenazi mean
Rick Berman ,   Karkur, Israel   (05.26.10)
"from Germany"? Doesn't Tzarfati mean "from France"? There's a huge al-Masri clan in Nablus, been living there for hundreds of years. Some of them fled to Jordan when we conquered the west bank.
14. #11 Salma
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (05.26.10)
When was there an Arab state or nation called "Palestine" in the Middle East?
15. Jordan is Palestine
John ,   U.K   (05.26.10)
Jordan was part of the British mandate of Palestine ,It was partitioned in 1946 and became the Heshemite Kingdom of transjordan.Israel sits in less then 30% of the original British mandate of Palestine, the rest is what is now called Jordan. Today the population of Jordan is at least 75% Palestinian.it's simple arithmatic Jordan is Palestinian, They should and deserve that land and live side by side in peace and security with the State of Israel.
16. It is your English :)
Hardy ,   גבעת כ"ח   (05.26.10)
Really, try to improve it
17. #12 Hijaz flag
Logic ,   Israel   (05.26.10)
How do you explain that the Palestinian flag is the same as the 1921-1925 hijaz flag? http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/hejaz.html Also, I don't see how you can reject the "English" King while at the same time accepting the UK-French borders that gave birth to the modern Arab states in the first place. In any case, most Arab states are modern constructs, midwifed by colonialist powers.
18. Jordan?
william ,   gotham city, Lebanon   (05.26.10)
A majority of Jordanians are actually Palestinians so why not ship those living in th west bank and gaza there and while at it ship all the refugees in :Lebanon too... and take the hizballah followers there too....
19. "The Palestinian people does not exist..."
Schmuck ,   US   (05.26.10)
"The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan." --Zahir Muhsein, executive of P.L.O. committee
20. #11 - Hmm, neither the Brits or the Turks agree with you
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
Just like Assad's family still considers Syria to be the heart and rulers of the Levant, which included much of the West Bank, Jordan, and Lebanon. Take a moment and read the Balfour Declaration, won't you? And while you're at it, please explain the legitimacy of pulling the Hashemites from Mecca and giving them land west of the Jordan, with rule over nomadic Arabs, with a State named after a Christian name.
21. #17 - Hahaha, very nice.
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
Although "logic" doesn't usually work when speaking with Nour. Racism and supremacy is their platform...and we all know there is no real logic in that position.
22. #12 - Personally, I trust the Hashemites much more than U
William ,   Israel   (05.27.10)
They know how to handle a terrorist population. September 16, 1970 'nuff said
23. a look at brothers
publius ,   USofA   (05.27.10)
We all known that the results of the break up of the Ottoman Empire resulted in the Modern states of Jordan and Syria, both of which in recent history has fallen into the trust of two families. One a King and the other a Politician. On the surface the Assad family has backed a nationalistic, socialistic unity built on a Greater Syria, historically founded on the importance of Damascus, the other built on a pragmatic and charismatic Kingdom. To most out side of the region, the current leaders of these two nations are like brothers not of the same family of coarse but of the same generation of sons of two distinct fathers, so there is a tendancy to see them in light of as being two sides of the same coin. It is not that one is better than the other, it is a desire two see them both in light of having at heart the same desires for the region. Yet they both have the distinct backgrounds, to me they are the yin and the yang of what ails the region. One is a King out right and the other must serve political interests or lose power, which is to say if both could be given a drink or two, and let their hair down they would be seen as relatively desiring the same asperations for the people they lead( call it wishful thinking if you must). The point is both are not in controll the outcome, outside of their immediate influence. Both are worldly, both are about the same age, maybe instead of trying to seek peace maybe both should embrace each other as brothers of the Arab Nationalistic cause and seek to impose themselves on the seen as having common desires for the palestinian future that defuses the current status quo, embrace each other as if your lives depended on it to out side observers. In other words, Heissan and Assad should turn to each other and hammer out their differences in approach to Palestinian asperations, both should seek the middle of what gravitates to a peaceful solution, instead of one being beholden to fear and the other proxism servitude. Turn the status quo up on its head, and demand we are not pawns to controlling interests but forthright leaders in our own rights, partnered to see through peace to all. Make the world whistle to our tune of hope, instead of beholden dogmas. Both of these leaders would instanteously be given a wide blessing by the world.
24. #20 Why did Britain give Jordan to the Hashemites?
Kyle ,   Southpark, CO, USA   (05.27.10)
Because they goofed up and gave Mecca to the Saud gang of caravan robbers.
25. Chest beating aside

26. United Nations Security Council Resolution 242 is designed
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (05.27.10)
to ensure that Egypt takes control over most of the Gaza Strip and Jordan over most of the West Bank, once Israel withdraw its armed forces to "secure and recognized boundaries" thus ensuring first and foremost Israel's security, in discussions/negotiations with the parties of the conflict, i.e. Egypt and Jordan with regard to the territories in question. 242 does not mention the need to set up an additional state in the region, nor does it mention concepts such as "Palestine", "Palestinians" or a "Palestinian state". If, after Israel reaches an accommodation of peaceful coexistence with Jordan and Egypt, these two countries may wish to handle their territories and the populations under their control as they wish as long as their decisions don't conflict with Israel's agreements with these two states.

29. Divide the West Bank between Jordan and Israel
david singer ,   sydney   (05.28.10)
At last some common sense is being spoken. Redrawing the boundary between Israel and Jordan by dividing sovereignty of the West Bank between Jordan and Israel is the only possible way to resolve the current impasse. If no one is happy with that outcome it will be go down in history as a good settlement. Let the negotiations between Jordan and Israel begin asap!!
