So lets get this straight .. obama believe that he if he gets a unanamous vote for sanctions at the UNSC his worthless sanctions will show the iranians how much the world is together on this issue. If that isn't a farce what is, does anyone believe they care. Obama is so laughable that every country in the world can now stick it to the US with no consquence. And worst of all obama is letting little Turkey destroy nato as a credible alliance as they raise the alliances enemies hand in victory and then tell obama to shove his sanctions. You would think a smart guy like obama would realize what is happening and stop the humilation, but no, this is his show and damn US public opinion for world opinion.

Whatever the number of security council members who finally approve the resolution or abstain, the practical effectiveness of the sanctions will be definitively negligeable since beforehand several major commercial partners of Iran have stated that the resolution will have no effect on their trade in crucial areas such as energy & weapons. Who is to believe that the Lebanon decision has any value when it is controlled by Iran's proxy, Hizbollah which has so well demonstrated its "compliance" with other resolutions? And who thinks that Turkey which is now allied with Syria & Iran will drop all support for these two countries even if it abstains in the ever postponed vote for sanctions. The US has lost the ability &/or the will to rein in rogue states.

What a shame, because we all know how effective sanctions have been.

Beyond providing aid to Hamas, the declared aim of the "Free Gaza" movement is to coerce Israel into providing Hamas with an outlet to the sea. This too is in contravention of international law which expressly prohibits states and non-state actors from providing any support to terrorist organizations. IN SENDING out the latest group of ships, Turkey and its Irish, Greek and Swedish partners seek to appropriate the imagery of the Jewish pre-statehood struggle for independence from Britain. In a bid to appease Hamas's jihadist precursors, in 1939 Britain's Mandatory authorities broke international law and prohibited Jewish immigration to Mandatory Palestine. The League of Nations' letter of mandate for Britain specifically enjoined the British to facilitate Jewish immigration to the land of Israel. First, Turkey has not been an ally of Israel since before the Gaza operation. Second Erdogan is running poorly in the Turkish poles. THird it should be clear that Erdogan is manipulating events in a major effort to prevent the US from taking action against Iran and to prevent Bibi and Obama from unifying their strategy against the Evil axis. It looks quite suspicious that the flotila sailing took place just as Israel attacked on NPT, US calling for a vote on sanctions, and Erdogan accusing Israel of a criminal and inhumane massacre. Unfortunately we in the US have incompetent leaders who can't understand enemy strategy. Bibi should stop hoping for Obama to do the right things as his visualiztion of the situation is a case of total misunderstanding.
