31. Lessons to be Learned
Essie HaKohane ,   Florida, USA   (06.05.10)
If the Palestinians would have resorted to peaceful Ghandian civil disobediance since the Oslo accords (like this latest incident)instead of their violent ways (like what occurred earlier this week) their goals of statehood would have been achieved and the Israelis would have taken them seriously. But, violence has always been their means. Their hatred of Jews and Israelis has always taken precedent over their desire for a state. Their desire for a state is a ruse. Their hatred and disposition to violence is real. Their behavior and policies are indicitive of this fact.

Better observer ,   USA   (06.05.10)
Rejection of a negotiated peace settlement: "[Peace] initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement... Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam... There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility." (Article 13)

Careful when you speak of old ladies of which I am one. As for getting "touched," I can assure you that any woman can have the body of a 20 year old. She only has to buy him a few drinks, hahaha

First thanks for your comment , it is interesting. But please understand a number of things (and don't be fooled by my location- I am an Israeli): 1. Ynet is a bad, bad, representative of the Israeli people. Remember, this is a political website mired in politics. Imagine going to the website or forums of fox news or a very leftist paper. Are you going to find the most pleasant, typical people of the country there? No you will find the most hawkish and hypocritical, the quickest to judge. So please don't generalize the attitudes of all Israelis because of the ones you meet on ynet. 2. This is the most important, a source of big cultural misunderstanding. If you were an Israeli and you went around the internet, you'll find a rainbow coalition of people screaming the most vile and hateful things against Israel you can imagine. You begin to get cynical, think the world is always completely against you. Many of the people making the insults will proudly proclaim their origin, making you, naturally, feel bitter toward that origin. Now in European and American culture out of politeness you bottle those feelings and attack the individual, even though in your heart you have lost respect for that general group (ex: a number of Hungarians continuely say they wants Ireland nuked, and then how great Hungary is-- you will feel, if not show, some animosity to Hungary). In Israel it is a much more direct, frank, and brutally honest culture. When an Israeli is having those feelings because they get a sense that some Irish- even if this is barely a representative of Irish people- are making an attempt to humiliate Israel and proudly proclaiming their heritage, Israelis will go and attack that heritage instead of bottle up that feeling. Understand even with this, there arent many Israelis who look at the Rachel Corrie and then ACTUALLY truly hate all of Ireland. There are only a few countries that Israelis in the majority actively truly hate, such as Iran (the government, not people), Turkey (the government and people- but this is reciprocated), Syria....etc. What I'm saying is, don't take Israeli insults to a European country so seriously, they are often meant, as part of a cultural emphasis on directness, as an expression to relieve one's own sense of insult, except it is shown externally rather than kept internally.

If indeed Turkey can mediate between the Israeli's and the Pals how come they can not negotiate to send in aid. It seems to me that Turkey will continue to use hits kind of tricks when talking about peace comes. It is a pity that anyone who wants to show the world that they can do something run on the ticket of helping poor Pals- this is exploitation and it is not helping the cause. it is time for the Palestinian and Israelis to sit and negotiate. the Proxy wars are not helping and certainly the world shall NEVER force Peace in the ME if its people do not work for it themselves. Turkey thought Israel feared bad PR but to their surprise she does not. I support Israel...YES and still i would like to see them live in peace with their neighbors but not manufactured Peace by USA or Arabs but genuine peace negotiated by the concerned parties. BHO seems to look out for USA while arm twisting Israel- this does not serve Israel and am sure if Israel tried to be more independent of USA they would be in a better place to negotiate peace for Israel/Palestinian sake and not USA's. The lessons for the week DON'T FORCE YOUR WAY INTO ISRAEL- talk to them they will listen!

I wouldn't draw conclusions from things said on this board. Believe me, they don't reflect the Israeli people. Ynet is considered as a mediocore news website and is more popular among less educated people with bad manners. It does not mean that educated people don't read here, they do, but they don't tend to write nasty comments. As for me and people surrounding me and the Israeli public in general - we don't have any bad feelings toward Ireland or Irish people, not at all. So, don't take seriously the crap said by some morons. Those exist everywhere, not only in Israel.

42. certainly, Hamas will refuse to receive aid via Ashdod
observer   (06.05.10)
Turkey has announced that more aid ships will follow and that they will be escorted by the Turkish Navy. Israel thus finds itself in the unenviable position of having to fire the warships of a NATO ally or allow the blockade to fail, neither of which are particularly desirable options. Firing on a NATO warship would constitute a clear and unequivocal attack upon a NATO signatory, thereby triggering Article 5 of the NATO charter and forcing the United States and most of Europe to choose between the Cold War alliance and their loyalty to Israel. Allowing the blockade to fail would flood Gaza with supplies, including weapons and bomb making materials. Neither outcome is one Israel will like. In failing to allow the peaceful passage of humanitarian aid, Israel has set itself up for catastrophe. Hamas knows this, which is likely why Israel’s offer to turn over supplies from the seized ships was so rapidly rebuffed. Turkey also knows this; it called an emergency NATO meeting after Israel interdicted the flotilla and while NATO can turn a blind eye to the hostile boarding of a humanitarian vessel, an attack on a warship is another matter.
43. #42, you're dreaming. Turkey will open war on Israel?
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (06.05.10)
And for what? For Gaza's right to host ships? Mr. Arduan isn't that stupid. No matter how much money Iran will give Turkey, they will not send Turkish soldiers to die for the Palestinians in the Mediterranean for Iran's sake.
44. #43 is Israel going to put its fate in Turkey's hands
observer   (06.05.10)
A blockade stands on four pillars:the relative weakness of the opposing force, the geography of the blockade, the value of the thing blockaded, and the willpower to maintain it. Israel holds the advantage in the first two categories. Her own military might in conjunction with her strong alliance with the United States tip the scales of power strongly in her favor. Moreover, Gaza’s geography and Egypt’s willingness to cooperate with the blockade mean that most of Israel’s work is already done for her; with Gaza hemmed in on three sides, Israel must merely patrol a tiny sliver of coastline immediately adjacent to her own. Israel is disadvantaged on the latter two pillars. Though Israel seeks to prevent weapons – particularly supplies for the construction of rockets – from entering Gaza, losses from Hamas rockets have never constituted a serious threat to Israel’s security. Consequently the value of the thing being blockaded – rocketry supplies – is fairly small when weighed against the potential cost of blockading it. This undermines the political legitimacy of Israel’s blockade and makes the enforcement of the blockade a potential liability for Israel on the world stage, particularly when the blockade is challenged.

Whom do you think trained the provos, Philip? Do you think we've forgotten that? We haven't. The Irish made their bed a long time ago. Now they have to lie in it. We don't like you all that much. Sorry.
47. To the Observer:
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (06.06.10)
You're missing the point entirely. The reason for the naval blockade on Gaza is to avoid Iran from arming it. As PM Netanyahu said, if ships can arrive in Gaza freely, what is going to stop Iran from turning it into a stronghold on their way to conquer Israel? If Turkey is going to lead a fleet to attack Israel, we will defend ourselves against it, NATO or no NATO. But we are not going to let Iran build a stronghold there out of our own free will, as this will be the end of us, period.
48. #47 Hamas is not Hizbullah, but is seeking allies
observer   (06.06.10)
Hizbullah has the power, that's why Israel lifted the 2006 blockade on Lebanon. Hamas and Turkey are in the way to be allies, that is why the blockade on Gaza is going to be broken.
49. yeah, and then Iran gets us in a pincer movement. I guess
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (06.06.10)
