32. Cut all ties to Turkey
Matti ,   Inkoo, Finland   (06.05.10)
Please Israel cut all ties to terrorist supporting Turkey and their islamist leaders. Act first before they do! Don't let them try to humiliate you further!

34. UN Must investigate Turkey
Duglarri ,   Canada   (06.05.10)
Astonishing. You really are going to lose your country if you continue down this incredible path of talking only to each other, reinforcing your misconceptions in your falsehood feedback loop. None of the rest of the world CARES if IHH was or even IS a terrorist group. What matters is that Israel is blockading Gaza. None of the rest of the world CARES if Hamas has weapons. You have them; the people of Gaza, if they are no longer occupied, have a right to them too. When the world as a whole disagrees with you, you're teetering on the brink. When you make an enemy of your last and solitary friend, you're pushing yourself over the brink. That's my view as a FRIEND of Israel, someone who WANTS you to prosper. People who don't like you are just rubbing their hands with glee at your stupidity.
35. UN to investigate Turkey?
Rick S. ,   USA   (06.05.10)
Give me a break!!! They are in bed together. You stand the same chance of the UN criticising Turkey as the UN praising Israel. In fact, it would be a great idea for the UN to relocate to Turkey or Iran.
36. #26 (linichka)
seyfullah ,   turkey   (06.05.10)
first of all, I will not be impolite like you. 1)what I want to ask is why your soldiers descended on a ship sailing in the international water.2) your expression that the activists attacked with knives and pipes indicate your irrationality because the head of İHH said that "we took the weapons of ten soldiers but we didnt use it against soldier and then threw it to sea because we didnt come to gaza to fight with israel. we were there only for humanitarian aid". can you see the differences btw the attitudes of both sides? you(all isrealis) speak as if their soldiers were walking on the street and then some people coming for humanitarian aid attacked them with thier sticks. what the hell your soliders doing in ship?
37. #6 well maybe you forgot about the
Michael   (06.05.10)
thousands of missles that were and continue to be launched from Gaza. Maybe you also forgot that if they want the blockade lifted to release shalit and return to truthful negotiations. finally, The Palestinians have humiliated themselves by letting an unelected organization make a mockery of their votes. That is the most humiliation when so called brothers ignore the will of their own. How could a non relative be worse?!
38. 36 seyfullah , turkey
abraham ,   toronto   (06.05.10)
all nations inspect cargo entering their countires. Israel was correct to stop the ship. Send as many 'peace ships' as you like ---they will all be stopped ! Jihad is a bitch when you cant do it correctly VIVA ISRAEL
39. Turkey is violating NATO and should be expelled ..
Lee ,   Manchester UK   (06.05.10)
that is if EUrabia 'leaders' are moral. It's a long shot. Turkey is a TERROR STATE, and through this ugly Israel bashing Turkey has shown it's TRUE COLOURS, and thats the silver lining.
40. Turkey and its atrocities are well known
shlomo ,   San Jose, USA   (06.05.10)
Turkey must be investigated for their massacre of Armenians. They cannot apply a double standard to Israel and get away with it.
41. If Turkey is innocent it should have nothing to hide
Mike ,   Oxford UK   (06.05.10)
42. to # 38
murat ,   turkey   (06.05.10)
The fact is that the israel army commited murder against civilians in international waters.Soldiers shot multiple times civilians at their backs.Israel is facing serious trouble worlwide. I bet israel will reconsider 100 times when it wants to board a turkish aid ship next time.
43. #28 we have our say on our gov every few years. ELECTIONS
rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.05.10)
Amazing how the left hates democracy when it does not do what they want. We've been the most hated nation since Abraham. We were not well liked by the Egyptians, Greeks or Romans. Even without the state of Israel, Europe tried to kill us. The only thing that's changed is that we now fight back. Please vote for Meretz if you want, but dont complain when the majority dont want what you want.
44. Pls go to the University
Michel ,   Jerusalem   (06.06.10)
To learn was a State is able to do in international waters when there is a blockade ! And then you'll talk..
45. mmm...Palestine? remind me who are they?
confused   (06.06.10)
Who are they leaders? did they hear about the Hamas at all? Oooops....Hamas calling themselves Balestine.....mmmm...what they mean by that? I am totally confused...
46. Lets get real!
Tarik ,   London   (06.06.10)
The author is extremely biased and has no logic. Israel is killing 9 Turks yet Turkey needs to be investigated for supporting humanitarian aid . I think Turkey and Israel may start a war if Israelis continue with their bigotry and jingoism. USA may leave Israel to its own devices as it became a liability with its extreme right wing government's actions. Israel thinks they are invisible becase they won all wars with their neighbors. This may be misleading in thinking that they can win against Turkey too. Get rid of the existing government end the inhumane blockade and make peace with Gaza.
47. Right on the button. This statement needed to be said.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (06.06.10)
Erdogan conspired with IHH to violently confront Israeli forces in the conduct of their legitimate duties. He defended their actions publicly and even now, wants to confront Israel himself in a second attempt since the first one was disastrous and failed miserably. The government of Turkey needs to be investigated for their mischief. I am SHOCKED that Obama has not called on Turkey to investigate why its citizens, caught on film, were engaged in a violent confrontation with IDF soldiers during the exercise of their legitimate duties, in an operation that was promoted as "peaceful". YES! Turkey has a lot of explaining to do and the statement needed to be expressed because whenever Erdogan decides to make the second and his own personal attempt, we will want to know why the first one was not addressed. And, oh yes! The owners of the cameras and films/videos forfeited their right to them. They are now items of evidence of the nefarious plot.
48. Erdogan
Rob ,   USA   (06.06.10)
The good news is that most will now begin to appreciate what Erdogan really is. If the NYT found fault with him, it is only a matter of time.!
49. #3, I know from dealing with UN people
Danny   (06.06.10)
that they are universally self-righteous scumbags. PS this article is appallingly bad
50. #4, they were published
Danny   (06.06.10)
In fact their video is what was used initially. Glad to see pathological lying is still in vogue
51. #3 - IHH wasn't investigated by US, UK before
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
but then again, before 2007 Hamas wasn't on the list of terrorists either, but that changed once they dug a little deeper (and not far, mind you). A previous Dutch investigation did place IHH among a list of terrorists and provided much evidence for it. Per your "UN times", perhaps you'd like to discount a great deal of the UN leadership for their roles in breaking various UN resolutions themselves to make $$$ and the cover-ups of activities by their "peace forces" around the world. One doesn't have to look far to find a politician with a tainted background.
52. #4 - Nice try Jack. Your opinion just that, an opinion.
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
Claiming Turks as "the rightful ones" doesn't help your case, especially when more evidence keeps appearing of their deep involvement in the flotilla and the racist-platform of the entire venture. The Intl community is still waiting for the full France 2 video of "Al-Dura" which won't release it despite a court order. Still, your ilk took the "Palestinians' " word for it, even without the video, and ignore the resulting investigation by Germany. Claiming yourselves as anything close to "rightful" makes true human rights activists cringe with pain.
53. #6 - you claim to be in the head of Israelis?
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
Who are you - some Arab from Jordan born into a different perspective and experiences - to claim you can even understand what the other thinks? You can't and you don't - your side has made up stories about Jews for centuries and most time, they're ridiculous. Considering your posting - you're obviously not well-versed in intl law either. Neither is Sari Bashi. 1) the blockade is to stop the flow of arms into Gaza, and has to a point. Plus, per law, it's also legal to do so. 2) as the one performing the blockade, Israel is obligated ONLY to allow through aid to sustain the population. It doesn't make sense from a layman like yourself, but it is legal in law. 3) building materials are blocked and the reasons cited. Hamas refuses to allow any over-sight of those materials to ensure they do not end up becoming bunkers instead of civilian homes. They chose and they lost. Finally, one would think that if Gazans can drive a car through a tunnel, get zoo animals, tons of viagra, and appliances from Korea....they'd also be able to get chocolate, fruit juice, and wood...which they do.
54. #8 - US backs Israel's right to blockade, flotilla action
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
Though the US administration has showed its regret at the deaths of some activists...thIy did not call them "civilians" nor that israel's action was illegal. Per the San Remo convention, Israel had the right to board the flotilla as soon as it left port. And since much diplomatic action was taken to stop the flotilla, they are absolved on knee-jerk reaction, too. The Israeli action is enshrined in the US, UK naval manuals and has been used many times by the US and NATO in Intl waters. You seemed ok with that at the time... The fact that all ships except the Turkish one surrendered peacefully and had no weapons weighs heavily against the flotilla organizers.
55. #8 Israel attacked? You have it backwards.
Sue ,   Los Angeles   (06.06.10)
Go watch the video. After the ship "Marmara" replied they intended to break the blockade, the Israelis went to board the ship. They had both hands on the ropes when they came down from the helicopter, paintball guns on their backs. These are weapons for crowd control, not for killing. The Israelis unknowingly dropped into a group of sharks - mercenaries, with knives, chains, rods, slingshots and broken glass. The creeps pulled the soldiers off the ropes, beat them and threw them overboard. After they stole the soldiers' guns and began to shoot at the Israelis, the soldiers took out their sidearms and shot back in self-defense. The young Israeli men are in the hospital with serious bullet and stab wounds. One soldier had to have his ear re-attached after one of those "peaceful passengers" almost completely sliced it off. There needs to be an investigation of who paid these Al Qaeda-linked mercenaries. The families of the wounded soldiers should file a lawsuit against those responsible.
56. Turks, how many Kurds have you slaughtered this week? And
Andrew ,   EU   (06.06.10)
this of course in addition to previous weeks, and months and years. And we no longer how many Armenians you slaughtered in 1915. We know the answer: You committed a genocide on 1.5 million men, women and little Armenian children!
57. ERDOGAN SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY THE INT COURT FOR AGRESSIO
ARIEL   (06.06.10)
Today The Hague Court has the power to considere cases as the one of provocation performed byErdogan, a clear acse of provocation by International law.
58. #43 - re: 28 - Leftist movements always tied to despots
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
Never in history has a Leftist movement supported a government that did not become despotic and result in the loss of life of many. The Left is all for democracy, as long as its their way and their people are benefited. After all, they consider themselves the secular elite of the world and the rest of us are uneducated and need their guidance.
59. #42 - fact is - those who attacked weren't civilians
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
Once they lifted any object to attack, they became combatants and no longer "civilians". That's basic Intl Law 101. You claim activists were shot in the back yet Erdogan said autopsy cites it was in the chest and head. Apparently, you don't even believe your own leader. Finally, it was Intl waters but legal under the San Remo convention. Israel will reconsider boarding when a Turkish ship arrives again, mostly because we'll suspect even more weapons and more violence. We'll just sabotage the ship instead. But, maybe Turkey will think twice about sending one of their ships again to face the Israelis. Erdogan demanded a navy escort and the navy told him no way, and voted against cutting ties with Israel.
60. Turkey's actions due to feeling the heat
William ,   Israel   (06.06.10)
I am positive that Turkey's actions here are the result of several Western countries deciding to address the Armenian Genocide. Since that time, Turkey has quickly moved towards the Leftist-despot Iranian community which just happens to include the most heinous murderers and oppressors in the world. Taking a shot at Israel was an attempt to lighten the pressure on Iran and as response to the West's Armenia actions. Turkey's bid to the EU is basically gone. It's membership in NATO is questionable but safe while the US uses its bases to move items into N. Iraq. It's illegal occupation of N. Cyprus is beginning to gain mention.
