Assad's try at pleasing its Turkish host by complimenting Turkey about its past opposition to the establishment of a Jewish state fails to notice that the Ottomans had also no desire to see a Palestinian state. In fact they did not even have to oppose it because the Palestinians never asked or fought their Turkish masters for independance. It is only very late when Palestinians saw Zionism progressing that they became nationlalists & claimed Palestine their own, not from the Ottoman's but from the Jews.
