How is it racist to want to preserve your way of life? Is the religion of Islam a race? Why is Mr. Wilders' party called a radical party? Isn't it the violent jihadists and their sympathizers who are radical?

It's not the fault of the Netherlands that they "failed to integrate" the immigrants. I've spent a lot of time in the Netherlands and I know the country. The Netherlands has plenty of immigrants from Suriname, Netherland Antilles, Burmese, South Americans, Eastern Europeans -- as well as a huge number of Muslim immigrants from Turkey and Morocco. All of these immigrants went through the same absorption process and had the same subsidies and opportunities to succeed. The immigrants from Muslim countries are not integrating and it's their fault. The difference is, of course, Islam. Many of these Muslim immigrants are oppressive and seek to impose their way of life on others - which is a huge shock to the most liberal country in the world. I can't tell you how many Dutch citizens who would be reading Haaretz if they were Israelis who are steadily veering right due to the intractable and permanent problem encountered by all European countries that try to integrate their Muslim immigrants with the traditional values of their new country.

It's interesting that you would refer to people like Geert Wilders as "the spiritual heirs of our past oppressors" when it's the Islamists and their lunatic fringe supporters who want to see the annihilation of Israel and exhort Jews to go back to Auschwitz.

Marcos #29, you are entirely missing the distinction here. We Jews were victims of other people's unjust racism for centuries. Unlike Islam however (which is not a race), our religion has no mandate to impose our form of religion on other cultures and peoples. We did not and do not try to undermine or subvert the cultures, just laws, constitutions, etc., in which we were and are living as guests. We did not nor do we seek to impose Torah law on others and spread it globally as Islam is mandated to impose Sharia law on other peoples and spread it globally. Our religion is neither an imperial one nor is it a supremacist one, unlike pure or orthodox Islam. Jens #30, you say, "dutch authorities let them all in and failed to integrate them." Herein lies the rub; the difficulty. Islam has no desire to integrate into other cultures. Islam must be the dominant culture. It is not "racist" to say this. Islam is not a race. It is a religious tradition; a conquering one. Have you a good translation of the Qur'an? I might suggest you read it. #33, see my responses to 29 and 30.

Job Cohen is just catering to his earlier electorate and support base in A'dam. Geert Wilders is definitely right wing, but he is not a racist. A third of Muslims in the Netherlands are ethnic East Indians from Suriname, but also from India, as well as Indonesians. They are very well integrated and are seen by PVV as positive role models. Many though not most remain ghettoed in places like West Amsterdam

I support Israel 100%, but radicalism is not good. Radicals can change their mind with the time and can be very dangerous. The same radicals that caused in Germany the holocaust. Extreme is not good.

You write that the authorities failed to integrate the Muslims. Do you mean that they have to force them ? Those Muslims, in general, are not interested in integration...they would prefer the other way round. Therefore they push for changing the laws to accommodate Muslim believes. Wilders can ban veils (the same than the Muslim countries make it mandatory..), request them to learn and speak the language, to learn the political system and the history of the country. Last but not least to accept that they are settling in a Christian country. They like it = welcome. They don't = go back to your country as nobody asked Muslims to come......

A veil is just a peace of cloth - a headgear like a baseball cap. So the veil itself is not the problem. The problem with the veil is, what a Muslim wants to express with it: 'I am a Muslim. I've got my own culture and this is not yours!' This attitude is the problem and not the veil. And do you really think that you can change this attitude by taking the veil away. You can't make a democrat out of a Neonazi by taking his swastika flag away. It would be wonderful if it was so easy, but it isn't. And that's the problem with populists like Wilders. He gives short and easy answers to complex problems: 'Vote me and I will make a few tough laws and everything will be fine'. This just doesn't work. I don't say that there is no problem! I only say that Wilders is not the solution.

I think the situation in Germany is different to other European countries: The Muslims in Germany (mostly Turks) came here to work and to seek for a better life. Even more important: We asked them to come, because Germany needed workers to rebuild the economy after the war. They didn't came here to beg for welfare. And they definitely didn't came here to spread Islam and take over the country! This is utter nonsense! Okay, most of them refuse to eat pork and sauerkraut. And yes, they don't drink beer until they drop. But that's fine with me. I don't know what's going on in Sweden, England or the Netherlands. But here the vast majority of Muslims live quiet lives without attracting too much attention. There were only very few occasions were Muslims tried to change something in this country: There was a Muslim teacher who wanted to wear her veil in front of the class. It came to a hearing, the judge said 'no' and that was the end of the game. I don't understand why other countries are making such a fuzz. Maybe it's easier in Germany, because there are rules and laws for almost everything and in the end: 'everything is forbidden unless it's explicit allowed'. lol
