I can address your question within the context of Israeli law and United States law. While democracies (such as Israel and the United States) do have laws which protect free expression, you must understand that not all speech is protected. For example, Helen Thomas' recent unfortunate remarks are considered "hate speech," and are not protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Similarly, slander is not protected by the First Amendment. There is also a form of language which is called "license," and is not protected by the First Amendment. There is a very famous example rendered by the late Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes in which he states that shouting "Fire!" in a crowded theatre when there is, in fact, no fire is not protected by the First Amendment. As an aside -- I think that I could probably stand on a street corner in New York and say all manner of terrible things about Osama bin Laden and I will not be arrested, or subject to lawsuit for slander or defamation. The same probably holds true in Israel. The sign on the bus was unpleasant, but terrorists are unpleasant, too. The Jews in Israel are not favorably disposed towards terrorism and the fact of the matter is that it has been conclusively proven that the so-called "humanitarians" aboard the vessel MARMARA were the furthest thing for humanitarians. They came looking for a violent confrontation; Israel gave them what they wanted. In most sane parts of the world, what happened to the terrorists aboard that vessel is called "getting one's just desserts." Think of the Israelis who have suffered mightily from eight years of daily missile barrages (south), six years of missile barrages (north), over twenty years of suicide bombings, and over sixty years of unrelenting Palestinian terror. The words were in poor taste, but hardly offensive. Finally, as to Europe -- there is a very good reason to prohibit hate speech targeting Jews. It is called the Holocaust. Perhaps you've heard of it?

Care to document that? One thousand? How many Kurds were killed over the last ten years by the Turks? Some estimate the death toll is as high as 250,000. Yet not a single outraged peep out of you! By the way, in case you're interested, the NSA has confirmed that the videos and audio tapes released by Israel following the incident aboard the MARMARA have not been doctored.

12,000rockets in 8 years? Most people say 8,000 Sarah-you are exagerating as usual. How many rockets, bombs and missiles has Israel fired into Gaza in 8 years??? More than 2,400 Gazans killed in 4 years, vs 39 Israelis. You are criminal and evil Sarah B... BDS

You who are complaining about this sign should have to face murderers and see how your perspective changes. They passengers on the boat the Commandos boarded were and ARE mercenary's paid to kill our people. Can't you get it through your thick skulls? They ARE THE ENEMY! Since they weren't killed then they will live another day to kill again.

stupid error in judgment. I'd like to think while we can all feel a collective anger at events we don't need to allow ourselves to sink to the lows of those who despise us..

Being in the right many times depends on your views. Was Europeans right to take most the land in America from Indians, they thought they were and still do. The Cherokee's had the trail of tears even though the US Supreme Court ruled in their favor but President Jackson removed them anyway. In History Power makes right no make how bad the actions maybe, just look at Hitler or Stalin, what would have happened if they had been allies longer or even friends?

The USS LIBERTY was a spy ship ordered to the region for the express purpose of eavesdropping on Israel's military communications. The communications were quickly translated and then relayed to both Syria and Jordan, against whom Israel was engaged in armed conflict. Everybody keeps harping about Egypt, Egypt, Egypt. The USS LIBERTY incident occurred on June 8, 1967. Egypt was long defeated by then. I have been told from someone in a position to know that the orders to the USS LIBERTY came directly from then-President Lyndon Johnson personally. The Arabs were taking a terrible beating, and Johnson wanted to minimize the damage. That's the reason for the cover-up. President Johnson wasn't doing so well in the polls at the time, and this would have been extremely damaging to his re-election campaign (he had not yet then decided not to seek re-election). There is not a country in the world that would not have blown the USS LIBERTY out of the water in similar circumstances. Especially the United States.

You are correct -- I changed the tack of my post. I had initially intended to consolidate the rocket attacks in the south and the north, which is why I said 12,000. I neglected to go back and change the number, and I apologize to everyone for that. It is 8,000 missiles from Gaza. Has it occurred to you that if those pesky Gazan terrorists would not engage in measures that are deliberately designed to maim and kill Jews, Israel would not have to respond in kind? Nothing criminal or evil about protecting your citizens. On the other hand, hiding weapons in hospitals, schools and mosques -- thereby making them a legitimate military target is criminal and evil. Refusing to allow civilians to evacuate an area that has been warned in advance that it will come under bombardment is criminal and evil. Launching missiles at schools and day care centers and traumatizing children is criminal and evil. If Israel REALLY wanted to put an end to Hamas, they could. It would not take very long at all. And what's more, you know it.

So easy for you to say. The last I checked, Switzerland is officially neutral. Your comment is absolutely outrageous -- tell me: does the large number of pedophile priests reflect on the Roman Catholic people and the Roman Catholic religion?

"How easy for you to comment, living safely away down under" I was in Lebanon in 1982 when the IDF invaded. I live here because Palestine, where my father is from is a war zone and our home in Lebanon was also blown to ruins by your IDF in the 70's. 8000 "missiles have been fired into Israel from Gaza over an eight-year period" Between 7,000 and 9,000 Israeli artillery shells were fired into Gaza between September 2005 and June 2006. - less than a 1 year period. "Israel's incursion into Lebanon in 2006" Israel fired 4.6 million submunitions into southern Lebanon in 962 separate strikes. Hezbollah fired 4,407 submunitions into civilian-populated areas of northern Israel in 113 separate strikes. "You know not of what you speak" Kind of like your presence at the "Bondi riots" which were actually in Cronulla, not Bondi?

lara ,   Australia   (06.12.10)
I did not use inappopriate language, it wasn't anti-semetic, and i didn't make personal attacks towards anyone. If the activists intent was to kill, they would have missiles on board that ship, but they didn't even have guns. To drive around with a sign which reads "Shame on you, why did you kill so few" implies that people were not satisfied with only 9 activists dead. That seems a little inhumane, dont you think?

The more terrorists killed, the less innocent people get hurt as a consequence. As I understand, there were around 40 IHH murderers on board and only 10+ were eliminated. But of course it's hard to do this with paintball rifles and 9mm sidearms only.

apparently not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but his sign does highlight an unfortunate irony of the boarding: the injuries, and the loss of life, were the direct result of an attempt to "walk softly"; a more forceful boarding with an overwhelming show of force might have deterred the terrorists, and certainly would have subdued them with fewer casualties on both sides.

Talk about an ANTI-SEMITIC observation. This is the same type of warped mindset of those who observe that the job Hitler began needs to be completed. It's wrong for the Kluxers and it's wrong for Israelis. Fascism is now being touted as just supporting the troops. Americans were wrong in My Lia and Israelis are wrong killing unarmed civilians.

I think the subject is not boycoting each other's products. The subject is being human . Of course you can defend yourself. But this is not the way of doing it. No reason for killing more people. We re living in 2010.But there are still some people like you that want more death and war. Nationalism is a childhood disaster. Forget your nation just be human if you can. Although there are people EXTREMIST like you in Israel i think Israel people are mostly good people. I want and wish more peace in the world.

about how any one can or could .... i will never agree with iran if she can wipe israil from the earth ...... so do not be so proud of the high capabilities >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>once i listened to the man who threw the atom on najazaki he said he was proud of his doing ..i think now he would not as i feel that no one will be proud of killing but of defensive .. so invistigations must be supported to justify the doing not to be proud of killing
