31. What are these study tracks?
Ernest ,   USA   (06.15.10)
There's attribute in Torah. How varied are the Ashkenazi and Sephardic that they would opt to study in different classrooms? A previous article mentioned a difference in pronunciation of the language which doesn't seem to be a deterence to the value. Separating the genders isn't unethical. To risk going to jail rather than finding the camaraderie in the study tracks would be disturbing to families and friends. You can feel solace to find yourselves gathered together with the same mind-set. Conservatism and liberalism are relative so long as you have the same precepts in mind, Torah based. And of course, when your talking about Torah, it's following in accordance to the statutes, the guidlines and the rules set forth by. The ways are going to start to be needing to get finite. You could use the word called "steamline".
32. Kol HaKavod
Josh   (06.15.10)
Kol Hakavod to ALL the parents of the girls. They are showing to all Israelies what real Jewish parents are all about. They are dedicated to their childrens education 100%, No Supreme court or any other organization will rule over the Rabbis. They are our REAL leaders and we do what they say. Now the judges of the supreme court should learn the meaning of 'Daas Torah'.
33. #9 My brother thats because you are an Arab
aiman ,   jersey   (06.15.10)
Be proud of who you are.
34. Difference
Yuri ,   ChicagoUnited States   (06.16.10)
I don't get people's arguments. In the USA the only schools that can discriminate are private schools that are 100% privately funded. This school in Emmanuel is publicly funded by the state, which means that the High Court can enforce whatever ruling deemed necessary. I don't see how this is sticking their neck into someone else's affairs?
35. Actually I don't care if they discriminate amongst themselve
Dorothy Friend ,   Tel Aviv   (06.16.10)
What did the late Prime Minister begin say about Sabra and Shatilla? "Goyim killing Goyim"? As long as it doesn't effect secular or regular religious communities, either by cost or destruction of property in rioting, let them do what they want to each other.
36. sefardi girls . to larry
dr daniel mostrel ,   paris   (06.16.10)
you are wrong to preserve the european galout beheaviour is not preserve judaism if you want mashiach now stop sinat hinam there is no real difference between sefardim and ashkenazim in their behaviour (what a problem to eat rice during pessach!) in paris we live all together most of the weddings of our children are mixed (sefardim ashkenazim i mean) as an observant jew i cannot agree what you said unbearable in eretz israel in schools funded by the state am echad !!!!!!!!!!!! and stay in brooklyn if you feel danger with sefardim for your yiddishkeit
37. high court crushes individual rights!
naftali reich ,   airmont new york   (06.17.10)
This will be like Tienanmen square! Why cant a religious minority educate their children as they wish. This has nothing to do with racism. Sephardi kids are welcome at the school if they adhere to the religious guidelines! Racism was picked up by te petioners and grabbed by the New Israel Fund that funded the suit simply as a way to bash the religious way of life. Typical Israeli intransigence and lack of diplomatic savvy... The high Court should not have accepted the petition. They are fanning the flames of a painful unnecessary religious civil war!
38. education or 'schooling'?
Lisa   (06.17.10)
THE State (Education system) has a right to dictate basic general education- language, math, etc. etc... ALL children HAVE to have access to this. The State also has a right to make sure the standards are adhered to. Private schools in Western and free countries teach this education PLUS their own 'flavor of the day education'- and the parents should be made to pay for this extra. This works in North America and Europe- . No State, and Israel as a democracy as well, should not dictate religious instructions of any kind- especially since it seems there are too many different factions involved, each trying to put pressure on the others. Too sad that well meaning religious leaders, believing in the same God, can be so stubborn as not to come to an agreement in peace-

40. #13, Gaa!! It's racism...where?
Jeff ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.20.10)
Hey Brian, normally I would agree with everything you said. I've got just a few problems here. Do me a favor, can you please send me whatever articles you've got, from Ynet, Ha'aretz, Reuters, AP or what have you, that gives a full and detailed account of exactly what discrimination occurred in Emanuel. You see, I'm having a hard time understanding how, when the Beis Yaakog Chasidi (that's the Slonimer's "discriminatory" school) is fully 30% sephardi, that it is "racist" against sephardim. Or maybe you weren't aware of that. Maybe Justice Levy wasn't either. Or maybe neither of you care about the facts. In all cases, send me what you have. Thanks and shavua tov.
41. What is the text of the Decision?
Moishe3rd ,   Minneapolis, USA   (06.20.10)
Help me here. I have read a great deal on this controversy. It appears to me that the Court; the Education Ministry; and the media, are all basing their viewpoints on "racism" and this conflict does not appear to be racist. But - I cannot for the life of me, find the wording of the actual Israeli High Court Decision(s) in English. I want to know. Any help?
42. White flight/private vs public
Daniel ,   DC (and Tel Aviv)   (06.22.10)
In the USA anyone who would prefer to send their child to a private school or who plans to do home education is allowed to do so. This is a truth. Many white people chose this route to avoid desegregation. Schools that in any way whatsoever receive public funding can not discriminate. The High Court judges are correct. It is time to desegregate Israeli schools. Private schools and individuals who receive state funds who oppose desegregation should have their funding cut off. This means the school if it chooses to keep segregation and parents who refuse to comply should all lose their state money.
