1. Racism against Jews HAs to End
Rafael ,   Yerushalayim Israel   (06.16.10)
I love the hareidm. They are my brothers and sisters. Fellow Jews. But racism is racism and it has to stop. Someday the High Court will have the courage to end housing discrimination against all Jews and discrimination against all non-Moslems on the Temple Mount.
2. What taking the day off work are they
Avi ,   Israel   (06.16.10)
Oh sorry i forgot they dont work, serve in the army or pay taxes
3. How LOW can they go?
EM ,   Ra'anana   (06.16.10)
I can't believe that they will hold a rally in support of racism and racists! They do not want their children sitting in the same classroom with children whom they perceive to be of a different color or background. Yet they are apalled when we call it racism? How DARE they!
4. "Mother of all protests"...
John ,   Europe   (06.16.10)
Saddam Hussein called the clash with USA and Western Alliance "Mother of all battles"... You can see who is in mental line with these... haredim.
5. Anyone????
Jason ,   NJ USA   (06.16.10)
Did anyone else realize that while Ynet is on overdrive in painting a negative picture of the Haredim (and I’m not Hareidi, but it’s so obvious that it’s not even funny anymore!) they failed to bring to the readers the story behind all this??? Same story with the excavation work in Jaffa! Does anyone know what they are excavating there?? We, that are relying on Ynet to get up to the minute news from Israel only get the dark side of the story when it comes to Hareidi issues!!!! Why????
6. israeli supreme court is out of control
david ,   new york   (06.16.10)
taking children from parents and putting parents in jail because they don't want to send their kids to your school??!? the arrogance of the self appointed leftists on the supreme court is incomprehensible. maybe the religious should return the favor in kind when they get to be the majority: grab children from secular homes and put the parents in jail because their parents refuse to send them to the religious schools. (oh, i forget, all those leftist will be living in canada by then)
7. Booze the media.
Haredi Parent ,   Jerusalem   (06.16.10)
This is a serious problem of less observant children in a class with more observant children. It is not Sephardic verses Ashkenazi. G-d forbid!! As a Haredi parent, I very well understand the problem, and bad friends can ruin a child. the media just loves to kick the Haredim as much as possible and in any way they can, especially "y net news"-Dear Hiloni readers, please discuss the issues with those are level headed-don't believe the propaganda!
8. Converts: be there or be annulled
(06.16.10)
Ultra-Orthodox rule
9. a good thing
(06.16.10)
The Jews of Gush Katif were good children. Peaceful protests and hugging the police who beat them and destroyed their homes. On the other hand, the police are terrified to enter the Bedouin villages and Arab villages to enforce the law. When the Druze did not want cellular antennas, they destroyed Jewish property and kidnapped a police woman. When they did not want their land expropriated they rioted. Hopefully the Haredim will show the Courts and police that there are limits to how much you can push the Jews.
10. hareidi protest re schools
MORON ,   GALUT   (06.16.10)
state funded schools in israel should accept all jews--let those who dont like it for whatever reason pay for their own schools--unity is more important than the narciscism of endless differences..whether these arise from haredi or reform
11. Ynet, please give us the full story!!!
Jason ,   NJ USA   (06.16.10)
This is the third or the forth article on Ynet only in the past 24 hours about how the Haredim are defiant and will not obey the law. But didn’t in one of those articles bring us the story behind this!!! Can anyone please tell us what is going on there?? I can’t believe that Knesset Members (regardless of party affiliation) would get theirs hands dirty with supporting any form of discrimination. There must be something more to this story that’s not reported here! It seems that Ynet only catches on to the story when the Haraidim are made out to be the bad ones! Frankly, it’s becoming counter productive and readers like me are sick of it already!
12. "Racism Against JEws has to End"

13. Couldn't that time be better spent studying Torah?

14. I hope there is no need BUT
The Last Zionist ,   Eilat   (06.16.10)
prepare the Tear gas and water canons. They are not worth any injured cops.
15. What A MIxed Up Religion? Culture? Race?
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.16.10)
No wonder you treat blockade activists, Muslims, Christians, Palestinians, people of colour, homosexuals, women, Goyim etc like you do. Israel is in no way a democracy. It is a militaristic theocracy run for the benifit of the Ashkenazem oligarchs.
16. You offer the Haredi 2 choices
zionist forever   (06.16.10)
1) If you want to send your kids private you can chose any school you want based on any system of segregation you want. 2) If you want to send your kids to a public school where the taxpayers will pay for their education you get no more speciality than anybody else. A public school is for the public as a whole not Ashkenaz or Saphadri. Both are jews, both live by the same set of rules from the Torah & the same national laws apply to both of them. The only problem here is these people are discriminating based on where these jews were born. This is a situation thats unacceptable and must be resolved quickly. The religious MKS should for once openly support sanity rather than how religious groups feel. Involving the courts though and arresting people is just adding fuel to the fire. Lets remember the whole world is out to get Israel right now and looking for anything to condemn it for if its not military then it will be racial but any excuse to try and get at Israel so we should not give them ant excuses.
17. Lockem up Haredim hurl racial slurs at Ethiopian officers
Moish ,   Canada   (06.16.10)
They are not rascist right? Phleezze lockem and throw the key away.
18. #7I know,it is very difficult to deal with a non ideal world
Keren ,   IL-BR   (06.16.10)
But ,"bad friends"exist, and ,as we Jews believe in One G-d, and as we believe that there is none but Him,I think that you have been giving too much power to these "bad friends"as if they were more powerfull than G-d. If they are there,it is because it is G-d that has put them there for us * to deal* with them and not reject them,as idolaters dealing to something more powerfull than He Himself. Deal with the Jewish “bad friends”and do what is expected from you in our Tikun Olam's mission. Don't you agree?
19. #16 the facts
Israel Israeli ,   Tel Aviv   (06.16.10)
The parents suggested to #1. Judge Edmond Levy agreed. The other Judges refused and insisted on jailing the parents.
20. to Jason, NJ
Ezra ,   Canada   (06.16.10)
The story is simple : 1/ Ashkenazi Mitnaguedim have a worldwide schooling system for girls called Beth Yaakov which has been created in Poland in the thirties 2/ Many Sefardim become ultra-orthodox in Israel and in the Diaspora by copying their ashkenazi brothers and do want their kids to attend the ultra-orthodox schools 3/ Beth Yaakov schools refuse to register more than 25% sefardi girls because they consider the Sefardim not enough religious. Ashkenazi Haredim globally consider the Sefardim as underclass Jews. They refuse to rent them apartments, socialize with them and marry them. This is not an Israel only issue and is also happening in the States.
21. BREAK THE LAW, GO TO JAIL...NO EXCEPTIONS DUE TO EXTREMISTS
JEWISH DOCTOR ,   NYC USA   (06.16.10)
PUT THEM ALL UNDER LOCK AND KEY AS YOU DO IN A DEMOCRACY WHEN PEOPLE BREAK THE LAW, RIOT, DESTROY ETC. NO EXCEPTIONS DUE TO EXTREMISTS "VIEWS AND SUPERSTITIOUSNESS" and embarrassing all the other Jewish people in the world and making them targets.
22. :: World Citizen - #15 - Well said
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.16.10)
23. Lets swap these haredim from Imanuel for Gilad Shalit
shaun nathan ,   jerusalem   (06.16.10)
24. #6 you missed the point entirely
Ari Olvera ,   Tel-Aviv Israel   (06.16.10)
#6, David- You misunderstood by a mile. These fanatic religious racists aren't refusing to send their kids to a certain school- They are refusing to allow their children to mix with other children who are Sephardic Jews (and are considered by the Ashkenazi Haredi to be "coloured" and also not up to THEIR standards of Judaism) I must also point out that THIS SCHOOL is a PUBLIC SCHOOL being PAID FOR BY OUR TAX MONEY (certainly not by theirs) if they want to open a racist, segregated, and primitive school which teaches intolerance and racism, they can pay for it and open it themselves, but SEGREGATION of children in schools based on what type of Jew you are is not only sick, harmful, and cruel, it is also ILLEGAL. And we Israeli citizens are paying for this public school, for ALL children to be able to attend FREELY, without discrimination and ostracism!! Wake up and read the entire article before you jump in and look like a fool for defending an indefensible position!!!
25. What a bunch of racists they are
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.16.10)
Hurl racist words to Israeli police officers , don't want children of Ethiopian descent in a school in my town , separate Sefaradi pupils from Ashkenazi ones . And what about : ve'ahavta et re'echa kamocha ? Unknown to them !
26. In Canada, even private schools
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.16.10)
supported by parents are not allowed to discriminate on the basis of race or ethnic origin. While racism of course occurs, it is not legalized by the state. In Tekoa (Israel), where my family resides and my grandson attends school, there is only one elementary school and it is for all classes of residents. Children from religious families attend alongside children from secular ones. It appears to work out well. Children have firsthand knowledge of how children with religious standards foreign to their own are brought up and what they value and how they behave. There are also five Beit Knessets in this little village, all with somewhat different ways of worship. There are problems in Tekoa, of course, but all in all it does provide a model. Other than the absurd discrimination by Ashkenazim regarding Sephardic children, we do have much greater problems in Israel. So far, the Arab populations are separated from the Jewish ones. This appears also to be the case regarding the Druse and Bedouin. While this goes completely against the Jewish ideals of democratic statehood, let's also remember that the State of Israel is only sixty-two years old. Only now is the distinction between Sephardic and Ashkenazi breaking down thanks to intermarriage and mutual military service. Allowing the Charedim (by and large, Ashkenazim) to dwell in their miserable quarters isolated from the rest of Jewry without being forced to do military duty nor national service has enforced their separation, weakened the country and has focussed on the non-integration of its constituent elements. Much of this has occurred because of the absurdity of complete proportional representation and the consequent inability of our government to act without the input of small parties such as the religious ones. While Israel is being attacked from without, we are being mightily weakened from within. Interestingly enough, when we are attacked by external enemies, somehow or other, the whole nation seems to come together.
27. Matty Groves - you stuck your foot in it bigtime. Shame!
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.16.10)
Matty Groves - shame on you! You think the following is well said? "No wonder you treat blockade activists, Muslims, Christians, Palestinians, people of colour, homosexuals, women, Goyim etc like you do. Israel is in no way a democracy. It is a militaristic theocracy run for the benifit of the Ashkenazem oligarchs." Is there some other country in the middle east that has a better record than Israel on most of the above? Tell us, Matty, which other country in the middle east has an annual gay pride parade? Where are there laws that are enacted and enforced to protect minorities including gays? A military theocracy with movies on Friday nights and pork served in Jewish restaurants ? What kind of stupid baloney are you calling "well said"? You sound like the idiot queers who go out and protest "Queers for Palestine" - and they have no idea that queers would be beaten and driven out of "Palestine". Wow. You really are out of touch with reality in Israel.
28. Emanuel & Justice Edmond Levy
Ploni Almoni ,   Switzerland   (06.16.10)
This story reminds me of the Jews leaving Spain. They left proud and singing but did not give up their faith. The next step will be that we cannot choose the colleges or universities we wish to attend. Justice Levy might wear a Kippah but he surely does not understand what democracy is. He should be grateful that the system gave him a chance to study and did not have to stay in his slums. Anybody who loves democracy should join against this bolshevik-like ruling.
29. #11
R ,   Jerusalem   (06.16.10)
Unfortunately, Ynet is (once again) incorrect in it's reporting. The issue has nothing to do with racism. 30% of the school is sfardi along with the Vice-Principal. The issue is that the school refused to allow certain girls in due to RELIGIOUS reasons, NOT ethnic reasons.
30. purity doesn't comes out from the ghetto.
avi   (06.16.10)
Moses was the most humble man on earth. Haredi's problem is vanity and only vanity. They believe that they're the best and like muslims, other are trash. Stone age people were not that low.
