31. Is Barak good for Israel?
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (06.17.10)
I agree completely. However I would like to point out the problem is Israel's electoral system. Barak is only in his position because of Israel's terrible electoral system that is designed to keep the same people in power practically fo life.
32. Israel's chances for peace
Ron B. ,   Lod   (06.17.10)
“Land for Peace” as a paradigm has destroyed Israel's chances for peace in ways its Leftist proponents never contemplated. It has frozen Arab positions, and it has forced Israel to make a series of unilateral concessions which never brought it peace. The failure to recognize this dynamic is the greatest failure of Israeli leftist thought. This formulation of “land for peace” has insured the failure of all attempts to negotiate peace. 33. Barak
Yorgos ,   Athens, Greece   (06.17.10)
For sure, Mr. Barak is for decades implicated in operative failures... the problem may not be what he does but how he does. Also - could the State Attorney check the legitimacy and basis behind his intensive lobby for Turkish agreements, with thousands of millions of $$ transactions worth? Looks like something may need to be checked here - as we check the corruption history of our ministers in Greece, today.
34. And what about "Tahadiya" (2008)

OS   (06.17.10)
You're 100% right - Barak is a disaster and always has been - we should have gotten rid of him a long time. In your list of his accomplishments you forgot to add how he "disappeared" after the Tze'elim training accident - certainly the right thing for a leader to do - cover his own ***
36. Simple answer: Hell no!
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.17.10)
I could add yet a few more failures to the litany Dann has provided, but those should have been enough - anywhere but in Israel, that is. Why after all should we expect that the serial failures of one Ehud Barak would result in his resignation, disgrace or banishment from the scene? In Israel it's simply not done. Heck, Peres and Beilin are still around, still feted by the chattering classes, despite their abysmal judgments over the last 20 years.
37. "Serial bungler": I think that says it all.
Robert Haymond ,   Israel/Canada   (06.17.10)
Thanks, Terry, for the term and the concept behind the term.

42. Save Israel from the Ehudim
Joe K ,   Silicon Valley, USA   (06.18.10)
I used to post the need to save Israel from the Ehudim. At the time, Olmert and Barak were being allowed to destroy Israel. Now Olmert is gone. It's Barak's turn to be relegated to the dust heap of history in the disgrace that this arrogant gurnisht deserves. Besides the litany of failures and betrayals outlined in the article, people conveniently forgot how Barak, while still in uniform during the elections during his period of 'sinun' from the armed forces, heaped praises upon Assad the father, claiming how Syrians could be depended upon to keep their promises. Ehud Barak was and is a disaster for Israel. Let the great Gong be sounded and the great hook grap this jerk by the throat and drag him offstage before he has the chance to do any more damage.
43. The main problem is...I'll tell you all
Alexander ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.18.10)
The main problem is not Barak. Granted, he is an idiot, a moron, a traitor, an egoist, a wandering disaster and every word or thought that he expresses is a word of appeasement and surrender. But Barak, despite his immense stupidity and lack of strategic thinking, is not the real problem. The political system of Israel has been in error since David Ben Gurion in the 1950s didn't go through with his 10% treshold proposal for political parties entering the Knesset because he feared the SHORT TERM RAMIFICATIONS of withdrawn political support of SMALLER PARTIES that may either make or break a government. Some people suggest it is "undemocratic" to raise the percentage treshold to avoid smaller parties from entering the Knesset and enforcing a politically stable situation in which maximum 4-5 parties are in existence in the Knesset. People say this will limit the ability of every single group of Israeli society to express their distinct needs and wants. I say: they are wrong. One single party can contain and consist of more than just one political interest group. Neither the Likud nor Kadima nor any other Israeli party is entirely homogenous. Second, the purpose of democracy is to maintain the independence and sovereignty of a nation of people, uphold law and order and provide citizens with the rights, freedom and liberty they need. Despite that USA has in effect only two parties - Reps. and Dems. it seems that Americans still enjoy much individual, national and spiritual freedom. And if the whole idea of democracy is to elect a leader that actually can lead a country and actually getting things done, then it makes absolutely no sense to have 10-15 parties or more. Every single government will fall because a tiny party demands something from the Prime Minister and his/her party, nothing gets done and Israelis grow angry and frustrated and continue to pump in tax money - and for what purpose? I say: A 10% treshold for entering the Knesset must be required. 10% is minimum. Second, establish a Constitution where Israel is a JEWISH STATE offering freedom and democracy to all loyal and law obedient citizens. Third, demand in writing and by law that a specific date every fourth year is demanded for reelections - and no Israeli "bargaining". Fourth: ALL Members of Knesset and ALL members of the government and ALL members of the Supreme Court MUST be DIRECTLY elected by the Israeli/Jewish people and for the Israeli/Jewish people. And at the same time: make the IDF much stronger, WITHOUT having IDF being somewhat involved everywhere in politics. IDF is our army - not our religion. if we have a religion, then it is Judaism and our Lord is not Netanyahu, Barak, Livni, Olmert, Peres or any other politician. Our Lord, if he exists, is God - and no one else. Period.

COLIN   (06.18.10)
An excellent artical presenting the biggest anti semite anti Israeli politiciam But a little truthful matters were not eritten BARAK IS A COWARDLY GROVELING WIMP. When and where he can do any action against jews he will push He is also the minister of evictions of jew. If somebody would investigate many of his so called military awards are lies. 46. Between Barak, Netanyahu And Lieberman Israel Couldn't ..
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.18.10)
Do Much Worse. These men are diplomatic Neanderthals. Yea even George W Bush imitations on steroids!!! Never has Israel suffered worse relations with the world than now with these losers running your sad little country.
47. Barak works for AMERICA
Ralph Levy ,   USA   (06.18.10)
Barak works for AMERICA not for Israel he is Obama's mouth piece in the cabinet.Obama wants Livni also another mouth piece for Obama but thank goodness that has not happened. http://israelprotect.blogspot.com
48. Is a screen door good for a submarine?
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.18.10)
Barak is obviously as good for Israel as a screen door is for a submarine. Everything Barak has done, since leaving active duty in the I.D.F., has been an unmitigated disaster for Israel. As Dann notes, Barak is certainly consistent. Consistently disastrous. Let's get rid of him NOW!
49. barak
bkb ,   herzlia israel   (06.19.10)
i totally agree. now is the time for the labor party, the latest commission, bibi and us citizens to show that they have the guts to save Israel, the M.E. and the world from this man who thinks that he alone is the source of all knowledge.

51. Reduce pressure on Israel by saying "NO" loud and strong.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.19.10)
I don't know why someone who is as intelligent as Bibi appears would believe appeasing Obama would reduce pressure on Israel. Since Bibi foolishly agreed to the monstrous Two State Final Solution and racist building freeze, pressure against Israel has mounted enormously. Appeasement doesn't reduce pressure. It increases it. Barak is an egomaniac, appeaser and incompetent. However, the buck stops with Bibi, who begged Barak to join his government. The way to reduce pressure is for Israel to say "NO" loud and strong to the Two State Final Solution, building freezes etc.
52. symptom vs. reaction
ben Ish   (06.19.10)
While acknowledging that he is a tragic failure, do not be fooled into thinking that removing/replacing him will fix the problem. Barak is not the problem. He is a SYMPTOM of a problem. If you remove him as a failure, and do nothing but replace him, than you have guaranteed 100% that you will continue to have the same problem. You will find only another, a different face, a different name, but the same consistent failure at protecting Israel, filling his own pockets by selling out to the highest bidder because he places self above Nation, and whose only ambition is public recognition and aggrandizement but devoid of qualification or *accomplishment*. Indeed even ignorant of the necessary correlation of self-sacrifice and suffering vs. earned nobility and stature, since today we rely on bias and hypocrisy in the media to substitute opinion for credibility.
53. Ehud Barak,is good for Ehud Barak.

55. you forgot to mention
Danny   (06.20.10)
that he also helped forge the links between Hizbollah and Hamas when he insisted Rabin deported 300 terrorists to South Lebanon. 300 who would kill the tiny chance Oslo had and who would kill hundredsof Israelis in the 2nd Intifada.
