1. Lack of compliance means jail time!
(06.18.10)
they feel they are right? they have the courage of their convictions? fine let them sit in Jail for contempt of court!
2. This is what tyranny looks like
Irate in Israel   (06.18.10)
So, governmental authorities arbitrarily decide they have the right to tell parents what school their children can or cannot be in; deny them the right to homeschool; deny them the right to set up a separate school- in short, play the arbitrary and tyrannical dictator. What is disgusting is how the media is playing along with this and pretending it is all about discrimination. It would be funny to watch them talking about the "Ashkenazi" parents while watching parents of Yemenite and other eastern extraction going to jail, if it weren't so Orwellian. So much for freedom.
3. Contempt of court usually brings additional jail time
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (06.18.10)
Do not let these people get away with trampling on the rule of law. They knowingly broke the law, and then not once but now twice went against a court order. If there were extenuating circumstances or special requirements they should have brought them up before the agreed upon reporting time. Not failed to show.
4. alternate punishment
gerry   (06.18.10)
my advice would be: If the orthodox people doesn't respect the staate and law and order, so why the staate should respect them and to pay them school money and Bituch Leumi? cut it that's is and they will will return as smal mices! gerry!
5. Role of Supreme Court - Defend Constituion?
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (06.18.10)
No constituion. So they make up laws as they go. Private individuals have no rights
6. right
gerry   (06.18.10)
right !!!
7. What a superb PR show they put on
Exhibitionism+ PR   (06.18.10)
so quickly, bussing them all in from ALL over Israel, and TG the 'poor' parents in this town look very well dressed, so maybe it's the sfardi families that need a similar PR event now? Nu, someone, how about it? Same thing, for the sfardim now. Same PR team, ok?
8. STOP FUNDING THESE SCHOOLS
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (06.18.10)
Not adhering to a court order is a crime!!
9. Judge above the law?!
Yonason Herschlag   (06.18.10)
If a judge orders a person to jump off the roof, and he doesn't submit to the court order, is the defendent "breaking the law" and in contempt of court? Is it legal for a judge to order citizens to which school to send their children? Can a judge sentence an Arab to prison if he doesn't send his children to a Jewish school, or imprison a secular Israel if he would defy a court order to send his children to a religious school? Get the facts at goKoogle.com
10. The Real story
(06.18.10)
The organizers and speakers at the rally repeatedly refuted the court’s claim of racism in the segregated Emmanuel school and among the Charedi populace at large. Who can claim we discriminate against Sepharadim, when we study their great commentaries? demanded Rabbi Yosef Efrati. The leaders of the rally also led the protesters in songs from the Sephardic liturgy tradition, though the vast majority of the attendants were Ashkenazi men, both Hassidic and Lithuanian. Sephardic supporters were sparse, but one of three Sephardi fathers in route to prison addressed the audience on behalf of the parents. “I’m going to prison with my head held high,” said one of the parents, “We will all do as our rabbis tell us, and only they will take care of the education of our children that we are leaving behind.” “I’m here to protest the High Court of Justice’s disrespect toward the generation’s greatest rabbinical sages and leaders,” What a great Kiddush Hashem that will pave the way towards Moshiach.
11. Mad no more !

12. Remember what happened to PM Sharon
To the Supreme Court   (06.18.10)
who agitated religious Jews. (How many years is it that he's suffering?) You're playing with fire.
13. Endangering national security gets a slap on the wrist
DOWN WITH THE ,   DOWN WITH THE   (06.18.10)
Anat Kam was sent to house-arrest because she belongs to the appropriate leftist radicals group who are gratified by the court system and the media. However chareidi mothers and fathers with little children at home who are on the inappropriate side of the fence, get lashed for all the evils and misdoing done in this so-called-democratic country. Mercy and compassion doesn’t apply to these people, only for terrorists, spies against Israel, and fanatical liberal radicals. What a corrupt perverted evil court system! HYPOCRITES! Shame on you! In Israel we clearly see what the sages say: Those who have mercy on the wicked, end up being wicked to the merciful.
14. Boy were the sages right
DOWN WITH THE ,   HIGH COURT   (06.18.10)
when they said: Those who have mercy on the wicked, end up being wicked to the merciful.
15. They should look for - real - jobs (as if they work at all)
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.18.10)
16. Sending the mothers and fathers to jail for
Rivkah   (06.18.10)
wanting their children to be educated as they see best is going to bring requests from the parents and children for vengeance from the Lord. If the authority of the State of Israel is being misused, then that could bring judgment on the jurisdiction of the court, the nation since it is the high court. When a California court misused authority against me to jail me overnight on perjuries known to be perjuries and the persecutions continued because of the hatred of Jews (Messianic Jews), I asked God for vengeance. He sent a drought in December 2006 that resulted in a California State deficit of 19 billion dollars this year. Since the wrongs against me have not been reversed and I have not been compensated, I continue to ask for the Lord's vengeance and the State continues to come under economic judgment. But worse is coming since 5770 is the year for the "LACalif, 8, earthquake, 5770" in the ELS Torah codes which will occur before September 8 unless there is repentance for the offenses to the Lord such as what happened to me. Imagine the power of all these families calling on the Lord for vengeance when Av 9 is coming up and war is almost a certainty in the Middle East this year. Israel needs God's protection and blessing, but the Lord will avenge His people who call on Him to if that is righteous to HIm.

18. "that lead to the incarceration of the Ashkenazi girls' pare
David Olesker ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.18.10)
Does someone like myself have to correct every article on this issue with the simple point that the Chassdi schools parents are both Ashkanazi and Sephardi and that Sephardi parents are amongst those going to prison?
19. #12 Be careful !!!

The guy, the person, the entity, whom you call god, works in mysterious ways, from all accounts
20. To #2: This is what protects us all -Law and Order!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.18.10)
If you want "Apartheid" under the name of religion then don't get annoyed when our enemies use it against you, me, Israel and the Jewish people! This is another example of why we MUST have separation between Religion and State. In any case, all this hullabaloo is nonsense. It is just the revival of the old power struggle between the Ashkenazim and the Sephardim. What they do not realize is that they are driving the ordinary people away from our Jewish traditions and beliefs! The hatred they are creating is a sin in G-d's eyes! Discrimination is rampant against Jews all over the world and now e have Jew discriminating against Jew. We reap what we sow.
21. 1984
observer   (06.18.10)
Whilst the self-righteous pundits parrot high-sounding words like 'rule of law' 'democracy' 'highest court in the land' 'justice system', the entire establishment plus its media lackeys has deliberately chosen to ignore the fact that the judge has chosen to believe the allegations of one man against the assertions of dozens of the defendants, supported by fact, that the students described as Hasidic actually include many Sefardi girls. Why has not one commentator acknowledged this? There can be no other conclusion: the establishment is using this as a cause celebre to bring yet more pressure to bear on the Orthodox community, and this is being done with the full cooperation of the media and the majority of the secular Israeli public. This is actually very reminiscent of the Jossele Shuchmacher case of the sixties, in which Ben Gurion sent his entire Mossad staff to Europe to look for him, declaring that this is first time that we're fighting the haredim face to face.
22. a 30% quota is not racism,
abe ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.18.10)
Racism would be a total exclusion of Sephardi girls. a 30% quota means that the chasidic chatser wants to preserve its traditions and fears being outnumbered by Non chasidic children. perfectly legitimate, only that it should not be done in a public school as is the case here. At worst it is a legal error, but not racism. to put them in Jail on this issue is itself racism against them. And The bagatz has a glorious record of self appointed members who by coincidence happen to be all Ashkenazi. Now it is all heroic against the Charedim and jails them for ego. The Bagats is a dictatorship of the secular ashkenazim, self appointed and claiming superior power over the state
23. 'broke law-->go to jail' slogan sounds extremely German
abe ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.18.10)
I am sorry to say, especially that it is not illegal to home-school one's children and that is all that they did. This is a crime against innocents committed by a legal dictatorship who protect real outlaws from punishment.
24. A Yossele Shuchmacher case as it suits the High Court of
Hypocrisy in High ,   Court at its best   (06.18.10)
the High Court of [In]justice. --- Yesterday evening, it was a TOP NATIONAL SECURITY MATTER to search for those parents who did not show up. This, in accordance with Israel's anti-chareidi fanatic policy to search for Yossele Shuchmacher instead of the arch-murderer "Dr." Mengele from Auschwitz, yemach shemo.--- Yossele Shuchmacher was returned to his parents because the Supreme Court ruled that it’s the parents job to educate their children. --- Today, about 50 years later, the same anti-religious Court decided that it’s the “Supreme Court’s” job to educate the children if they’re... chareidim. ---
25. #20 The law can protect us and it can oppress us.
Roman ,   Lod, Israel   (06.18.10)
Law and order does not protect all citizens by its definition - just look around the world, read a little history. An idealized view of what is essentially a vast bureaucratic system made up of human beings is not an indicator of democracy - neither is using slogans like "law and order". Idealizing state institutions and claiming that they are perfect in their operation is something totalitarian regimes do, not democracies. In a democracy, the legal authorities can be wrong. The system is designed such, and must correct itself constantly with checks and balances, to compensate for this very fact. The fact of the matter is that in Israel, there are no checks and balances for the Supreme Court, even as it operates as a check and balance on every other aspect of our democratic society. The flaw stems from the fact that since our less-than-democratic days of secularist Mapai dominance, the Supreme Court has appointed itself, defined its own limits, what it can or can't judge, how it interprets legislature... and that's not something that should happen in a democratic society. In a democracy, elected officials define the laws and regulations of the state, including the legal system that provides a check and balance to their own actions - at no point can any aspect of a democratic government declare itself completely independent and idealized, a kind of perfect Guardian. Our Supreme Court did just that, since the days of Judge Aharon Barak.

Yonason Herschlag   (06.18.10)
Who ever said there is a 30% quota? And even if there was, that would be the problem of the school administration, and no justification for punishing the parents. You can get the facts at goKoogle.com
27. #19 You're right. Look what happened already TODAY!
(06.18.10)
The son of retired Supreme Court Justice Mishael Cheshin - who was one of the judges in this case - was killed in a hit-and-run accident Friday morning.
28. Aparteid elitist Ashkenazi Bagatz
Mario ,   Kennesaw GA   (06.18.10)
In the history of the state of Israel, how many shoftim on the Bagatz were and are Sfardim? What is the ratio of Sfardim to the elitist Ashkenzazim? Talk about racism and apartheid Ungatz LaBagatz they will platz

I have a serious question that I haven't found an answer to. Who funds "Noar K'Halacha"? It seems to have no connection with Emanuel , but is a one-man organization with an unlimited budget for this one court case. It would be funny if it was funded by European governments or Naomi Hazan's Keren Hadasha.
