1. Headlines
Essie HaKohane ,   Florida, USA   (06.18.10)
It's too bad that events like these never make the headlines of international news. Only violence seems to be newsworthy. On second thought, maybe this event should not make the news. The UN Security Council will find a way to condemn it!
2. Finally some turkish people
Johnny ,   Nazareth   (06.18.10)

11. I apologize
Dan ,   USA   (06.18.10)
For all of my angry remarks about Turkey during the past 3 weeks. It is nice to know there are still sane Turks left. I hope they retake power soon.
12. I am also angry, Dan....
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (06.18.10)
but remembering how lovely and likable most Turkish people I've met were, how beautiful and progressive their country was. I too hope the ugly present government bites the dust and relations return to the warm normal. Erdogen must fall.
13. Israel's brain-dead Foreign Ministry drops the ball again.
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (06.18.10)
There is - and will be - zero foreign media coverage of these seventy (70) actual PEACE flotilla boats, ten times as many as in the IHH terrorist "flotilla", because the Foreign Ministry buffoons dont think its important, or that its not their job, or that they are "too busy" to alert the press and circulate briefings on it. Israel's good name can not be defended when the people in charge don't get off their lazy asses and do their jobs. Send a copy of this article to your local newspaper. Then, if no coverage, write a letter to the Editor asking them why they didn't report it. Be sure to cc: Lieberman on the letter, and ask him what he does for a living.
14. Dear Israeli People
Mete the Turk ,   Helsinki Finland   (06.18.10)
I'm so emberassed of our administration (AKP) I'm very ashamed to tell people that I'm Turkish. I advice you to calm down and wait one more year. We will elect the secular CHP and throw all the islamists out of the administration. I apologize in behalf of secular Turks living in the world. I hope we will fix our relation asap. Kind Regards and Peace!
15. "No knives on these boats"
Mark ,   Bergen, Norway   (06.18.10)
..And how do they prepare their meals? ..Did they leave behind all throwable objects as well? Not very likely, but this is still a peace flotilla.
16. Dear Dan & Linichka
Ali ,   Turkish Republic   (06.18.10)
First i dont know if you both Jew or not but in my city Israeli citizens are coming here two times in a week and as i notice we dont have big difference we must realise a thing both side have populist politicians also my personal idea even if we dont support some actions of our own governments when national pride comes we support our own countries of course and sadly its looking like we supporting mistakes but not.500 years ago our ancestors didnt say they are different than us and take Jews from Spain with muslims to ships,Turkish diplomats save thousands of news ''i wish they had chance for all of em'' from Vichy Government and Nazis even as i read we were nearly going to join WW2 cause nazis didnt interest to give one of Turkish Jew from Aushwitz.
17. Nice to read these talkbacks
Atheist Turk ,   Germany   (06.18.10)
I hope we will have better ties as soon as possible. After two visits to Israel, I must say: Israelis are very much like Turks. Especially their temperament. Always felt at home in Israel and never as a stranger. For Turkish speakers: Check out this Erdogan cartoon: Son halife Tosun Pasa: http://haberblog.org/?p=8604
18. I love Israeli and Jewish people
Lara ,   Turkey   (06.18.10)
And nothing will gonna change this.
19. "real peace flotilla" "response to previous terror sails"
jj   (06.19.10)
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha war is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength
20. There are millions of secular Turks who despise Erdogan
Zvi   (06.19.10)
Quite a few of them see what Erdogan is doing and are unhappy. This won't change his policies, but everyone does need to remember them and not condemn all Turks (which would be a display of bigotry and fundamental ignorance).
21. I love Turks and Israelis
Robben   (06.19.10)
They both are very nice people, modern, peaceful, and generous. its crazy that they are fighting each other, its a pitty. hopefully it will chance with edrgan&libeman out of their goverments.
22. Northern Cyprus
Leo ,   Tel Aviv   (06.19.10)
first of all, LOL @ 15 second, Ynet journalists should learn geography first, there is not such thing as Northern Cyprus - there is illegally occupied Turkish part of the island it is funny to see people screaming that all Turks are knife-wielding terrorists, actually legitimating Turkish occupation of Cyprus by saying "Northern Cyprus". You could have shown some more respect for the only other non-Muslim country in the region (I mean the Republic of Cyprus)
23. Welcome, friends.
Bat Zion ,   Centre, Israel   (06.19.10)
24. #14
Scott ,   Haifa   (06.19.10)
I hope what you say is true. I miss being able to visit Turkey, and really have enjoyed each time I was there with my wife. The Islamic spirit spoils everything. Can't wait for the enlightened day when people wake up and shake off that dead and medieval bondage religious system. Until then we stand against its injustice and lies.
25. Another news piece that will never appear in haaretz
Arie ,   BaGolan   (06.19.10)
26. #1 The Med-Red Yacht rally is an annual event.
lara ,   Australia   (06.19.10)
It's not a flotilla. Yachts from around the world sail together to the Red sea. That probably explains why the headlines aren't huge.
27. It is better for Israel and US, trust me
Mark ,   USA-Turkey-Israel   (06.19.10)
it’s been assumed that Iran would be the major beneficiary of the wave of global anti-Israeli sentiment. But things seem to be playing out much differently: Iran paradoxically stands to lose much influence as Turkey assumes a surprising new role as the modern, democratic and internationally respected nation willing to take on Israel and oppose America. While many Americans may feel betrayed by the behavior of their longtime allies in Ankara, Washington actually stands to gain indirectly if a newly muscular Turkey can adopt a leadership role in the Sunni Arab world, which has been eagerly looking for a better advocate of its causes than Shiite, authoritarian Iran or the inept and flaccid Arab regimes of the Persian Gulf.

I have stopped reading haaretz and i suggest to everybody to do the same. Haaretz is a real shame.
29. misleading headline: there is ONE ship
marina worker ,   ashkelon   (06.19.10)
all the others cancelled. Hasan is, though, a wonderful friend of ours and is the only one with the courage to come here.
30. From Turkiye to Israeli friends, let's be patient.
Turk ,   Istanbul, Turkiye   (06.19.10)
Thanks for these friendly and insightful messages Dan(USA), Ami(Tel Aviv), Linichka(Poland), Zvi and others. I'm glad to see that some people realize Erdogan and his fanatic followers do not represent all Turks. In fact, he is facing a growing opposition in Turkiye. Attacking Israel is one of his ugly tactics to distract attention from his government's faults. But he is becoming more and more corrupt and oppressive each day. Turks and Israelis need to calm down, and remember that we have been friends for many centuries and we can get over this too. Let's not blame all of our people because of some corrupt politicians' wrongdoings. I wish Turks and israelis would have more platforms like this news story to share opinions and understand each other in these difficult days. Shalom ve lehitraot.
