I wonder if all the contributors to the YNet Forum who scoffed at me when I kept insisting that an Israeli strike on Iran's nuclear facilities would not only NOT galvanize the Arab and Moslem world, but that it would in fact be met with much gratitude (albeit privately expressed) to Israel have something to say. These would be the same contributors who scoffed when I suggested that such an Israeli strike would not trouble Western Europe at all. Pakistan and Indonesia, eh? Predictable. Peter, PEW is a very well known and respected polling and analysis organization. (Much more credible than Gallup) Your ignorance of who they are is no reason to proclaim the poll incorrect. Having said that, Israel and the US should not make military decisions based on the popularity of them with the Arab world. Yes, the Arabs fear the Iranians, but they also would greatly benefit from any conflict Iran has with the west. If Iran cuts oil deliveries and they will if attacked, the value of oil the rest of the "kingdoms" has goes way up! Israel will do what it has to, but the price to the world economy will be horrendous. To all those cheering on the next war. Even a complete success on the part of Israel or the US or both will mean near economic collapse for much of the world. This is not a decision to be taken lightly.

Israel, which already had nuclear weapons before the NPT was drafted, never signed the NPT and is not bound by it, but Iran and the Arabs did sign. Third, which Arab countries do you want to have nuclear weapons? Which do you even want to have nuclear power? Given a history of extreme corruption and costly blunders, and the use of "training" trips as free holidays, do you really WANT nuclear reactors sitting in the middle of the Arab world, just waiting for human error or terrorist attack in order to melt down and leak radioactive fallout across the region? The West recognizes the threat Iran poses, yet continues to trade with her. China thinks "Iran is no threat to US", so geopolitical interests take precedence. Russia sees a weakened western presence, and is ready to move in. The Arabs fear Iran because, well, Iran is not Arab; and they're Shiite! They also see that Iran is intent on establishing itself as THE regional power, as they once were before Islam was imposed on them. But not a one of them will lift a finger to join a "coalition of the willing" to help Israel or the US deal with Iran. And if Israel does the deed, they will be the first in line to condemn her for it. The irony is that, absent the mullahs, Israel will have more in common with a free Iran than they ever will with her Arab neighbors. But Israel can only be so patient.
