1. Yeah, except
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.20.10)
... that Hamas' sole raison d'etre is very well expressed in its charter, which calls for the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people. Hamas is not interested in the welfare of the Palestinian people. They have proven that on any number of occasions. The average Palestinian is nothing but cannon fodder to Hamas. Hamas' leadership lives luxuriously in Gaza and abroad. They have very hefty offshore bank accounts. What I have always found most poignant is that Israel cares more about the Palestinians than their leadership does. Israel certainly cares more about the Palestinians than any Arab nation does. We would have been the best friends the Palestinians ever had. Except they have been hijacked by promises made by their leadership upon which their leadership could not -- can not -- never will -- deliver. How sad.
2. PERES is RIGHT!
Israeli 2   (06.20.10)
We need PEACE...not flotillas.
3.  I believe that President Obama says and means that Israel's
Alan ,   SA   (06.20.10)
Security is America's top priority(Peres)..... Maybe America's priority -but I dont think Obama cares anything for Israel. Since he has assumed office the entire World seems to be going down the tubes.Every Terror state from North Korea to Iran to Pirates of Somalia to Turkey to wherever is having a field day!
4. Vintage Peres, always the same blah, blah, blah.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.20.10)
Peres, the master of using platitudes to disguise reality, always obfuscating the truth, always missing the point entirely. I think the term ''BS'' if it didn't exist, would have to be invented for Peres. The issue of Gilad Shalit & the Gaza blockade are TWO SEPARATE ISSUES. Regardless of what happens re: Shalit, the blockade remains necessary. What on Earth does Shalit have to do with arms smuggling or allowing another Iranian base on our border? Then Peres really piles on the BS. Oh why oh why does Hamas engage in terrorism? Now, really, how stupid can one man be? I'll give Mr Peres a hint - it has to do with a specific ideology. Even crazier, Peres says that if Hamas could renounce terrorism. But, Mr Peres, terrorism is their raison-d'etre, without terrorism, there would be no reason for them to exist. Peres like all the other delusional politically correct Leftists can't seem to connect the direct link between a specific ideology & violence as a tactic even though for all normal sane relatively well-informed people, the connexion is obvious. With leaders like this, is it any wonder we're in the mess we're in?
5. where he is right he has right!

6. end the occupation of Palestine
Cynic #2   (06.20.10)
restore the Palestinians rights and you'll have peace Mr. Peres.
7. Peres caused this problem to start with!
Jay3 ,   Israel   (06.20.10)
He was the one that first created the term "Occupation" too justify and promote the Oslo Accords agenda! Now the whole world believes his lies! The senile old man had done more damage to Israel then any other politician!
8. THERE IS NO NEED FOR FLOTTILAS ANY WAY -
Arn. ,   SWEDEN.   (06.20.10)
NEITHE FOR WAR OR FOR PEACE !!!. Arn.
9. I just want to be friend
Yossef ,   Rehovot   (06.20.10)
with arabs. I don't feel that different. Except i am a jew and they are muslims. Finally it s not a big difference. Don't you understand Salma Abdel and co. ? We can share. We come from the same land. We share the same life, the same food. We maybe love the same things or people. We are kust different, cant we live with that? Do we we need to look alike to live together?

bob ,   New Zealand   (06.20.10)
The sky did not start falling as soon as Obama came to power. The world was not perfect before he arrived. Even if your assertion was true ( which it isnt) it would not logically follow that Obama does not care about Israel's security. It's simply not credible , let alone helpful, to make such unbalanced claims about the leader of the country most supportive of Israel
11. Why is it that "progressive" peace advocates assist the...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (06.20.10)
...internationally recognized Hamas as a terrorist organization that calls for the annihilation of a UN member state Israel, but don't stand by the civilian population of the Jewish state who have been the target, for 62 years, for annihilation by the Islamists of this world. Is this the face of the 21st century "progressivism"...??!!
12. #7 Peres' fault
Tom ,   Toronto   (06.20.10)
You're right that Peres is part of the problem, but in a completely different way. He took part in the crusade to conquer Greater Israel and now your are going to lose your state like Napoelon lost everything he once had conquered.
13. #7 Jay3, Israel
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.20.10)
I think he''s tied with Ehud Barak. In any case, there's pretty stiff competition for the title, so many of our politicians have contributed to our mess. In fact, you would be hard pressed to come up with a politician who has NOT caused damage to the country.
14. When the Arabs put their arms down peace will reign, but
Anat ,   Israel   (06.20.10)
when Israel does so, there will not be an Israel!
15. Peres and the flotilla
Haider ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (06.20.10)
Peres admits, according to this article, that the people on the flotilla from Turkey were "peace activists". Well now, why then kill 9 peace activists. PERES IS CERTAINLY A PHONEY PEACE ADVOCATE.
16. Oslo: A disaster
Ron B. ,   Lod   (06.20.10)
Before Oslo, Israel was threatened with terror if it did not comply. It complied and the terror increased manifold. And if did not negotiate further, it was threatened with international isolation. It negotiated. It gave. And it was isolated anyway. It was threatened with boycotts, and it gave, and the boycotts came anyway. Now they threaten the unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. Followed by a One State Solution. Followed by international intervention as explained at : http://xrl.us/bhpaz9
17. #12 Tom
JAy3 ,   Israel   (06.20.10)
Get a reality check buddy! Peres took part in trying to give away Israel....not to conquer more land like you claim. If the leftist camp had its way, there would be no Israel left! And your genocidal aspirations of Israels demise will never happen.....keep dreaming!
18. Pals want peace too.Israel must only become Arab majority
Sam ,   Canada   (06.20.10)
No doubt many Jews and Western leftists wish to reach out and hug a Palestinian and show them what a warm and loving people they really are. They can have it. They need only turn Israel over to an Arab leadership.
19. Senile president giving conditions
Josh   (06.20.10)
Occupiers giving surrender conditions to the occupied. In history, when that ever worked?
20. :: Hollow words
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.20.10)
“Would Gaza leaders denounce terror, stop building tunnels, shooting missiles, release Gilad Shalit, there would be no need for any sort of closure or blockade” Actually if Israel had not insisted on occupying and oppressing the Palestinians for decades while undermining every Palestinian attempt for independent statehood there would be no Hamas or armed resistance to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land. It is Israel that has rejected peace when it was offered in the Arab Peace Initiative of 2002, Israel would rather continue the conflict in the hope of stealing more land and resources than make a lasting peaces and release the Palestinians from subjugation.
21. To #6 cynic
Johnny ,   Nazareth   (06.20.10)
End the muslim occupation of middle east! End the turkish occupation of north Cyprus!
22. so first u should free all palestinians jailed
Ivan ,   Haifa   (06.20.10)
There are hundries being held without trial. Free all palestinian prisoners and u´ll meet shalit again.U already could free him,you did not want.
23. Answer to Peres..
Palestinian ,   Ramallah   (06.20.10)
We did not understand then, nor do we understand now, why after evacuating Gaza, the rulers of Gaza started to fire thousands of missiles against civilian life in Israel. For what reason? For what purpose?" HAHA Peres what u dont understand? like gaza is palestinian Jerusalem too, and what u call tel aviv, ashkelon, haifa, akka (all those are palestinians before 1948) so u will keep evacuating more and more till we will take our country from sea to river . I hope u understand now.
24. Sarah's Serenades
Resistor   (06.20.10)
Sarah, you keep saying that Hamas and Fatah, and Abass keep stealing millions of dollars and have huge villas in Europe, as well as Gaza. Is this just hearsay, propaganda or can you provide actual proof?? If Israel left Gaza, then why does Gaza not have control of its airspace, ports and waters up to 20 nms, and border controls? If Gaza and the PA did everything that you asked, would they have an independent state, or would they be an impotent puppet state under Israel's control?? Is that your idea of freedom?? What would the IDF do if there was peace with the Palestinians? Who could they harrass and have target practice with--your zionist haredi mates perhaps??
25. #23 No 2 state solution,"occupation", con job from this Pal
Sam ,   Canada   (06.20.10)
What you say is honest, Palestinian, but the Palestinian leadership has learned that to get the big bucks from the West and construction freezes and territorial withdrawals, Palestinians must feed the West with a 2 state fraud. Palestinians are in the position of trying to convince the West to get rid of Israel altogether while pretending to accept a 2 state solution because that's what the West wants to hear.
26. :: Resistor - #24 - Don’t be so unfair
Matty Groves ,   Fairport   (06.20.10)
27. President must ask these questions from the west until they
answer them all   (06.20.10)
28. What is sad is that Likud Charter rejects Paletinian State
lydia ,   Brisbane   (06.20.10)
"The Government of Israel flatly rejects the establishment of a Palestinian Arab state. ...The Palestinians can run their lives freely in the framework of self-rule, but not as an independent and sovereign state." That by subjugating the hapless Palestinians and stealing their land, this proves Israel cares more about the Palestinians than their own leadership . The same illegal racist regime that targets and assassinate leaders of the elected Palestinian Government then claim 'there is no one to negotiate with", now laments they have not been the Palestinians best friends? Yeah right! "Fool me once .."
29. 14 If Palestinian put their arms down Palestine will cease
lydia ,   Brisbane   (06.20.10)
30. To: No. 28
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.20.10)
They should have taken advantage of a two-state solution on any of the three occasions it was proffered. The Arabs went to war six times against Israel. In each instance, they were the aggressors. In each instance, they lost. Israel's territorial acquisitions came as a result of fighting a defensive war and, as such, are fully legal acquisitions. Can Australia make the same claim? I think not. The English criminals that arrived in Australia aboard the convict ships murdered millions of Aborigines and stole their land. So -- I think you need to shut up. Clean up your own house before you worry about mine.
