1. Start getting used to going to Gaza thru Egypt.
UN=TERRORISTS   (06.21.10)
2. UNWRA needs Iran to help get 10M Pal returniks into Israel
Alan ,   SA   (06.21.10)
3. When UN helps get Shalit his human rights then talk
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (06.21.10)
The UNRWA is sitting there and doing nothing about a blatant war crime and they are complaining that this change is not enough? Get Hamas off your payroll and start helping the refugees as if they were any other people - by integrating them into their new home countries.
4. UNRWA is a big make-work project
A Nice Fellow ,   Montreal   (06.21.10)
It caters to people, the only people in the world, who claim to be refugees since their grandparents (allegedly) were. It is a biased disgrace, and it perfectly represents the lows to which the UN has sunk, along with the HRC, which has been led by the likes of Iran, Cuba, Libya, and China.
5. Spokesman
John ,   Herzliya, Israel   (06.21.10)
Is this the same spokesman who was so loud and complaining so much when Hamas stole them hundreds of MTs of wheat flower from their warehouse at gunpoint? Yes, believe me, he is. And he is, just like any other UN person who signs The Oath when joining organization, non-biased and neutral. Yeah, right.
6. dear mr. spokesman....
Dana Rothschild ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.21.10)
easing the blockade is much more, than Gaza deserves at the moment... and it is sooooooo easy to change it: let gilad shalit come home and the blockade will be lifted.... quick and easy, isnt't it?
7. GAZA MUST GET RID OF ITS NOTORIOUS CORRUPTION
(06.21.10)
that is the first step it must do to rebuild.
8. Christopher Gunness of UNRWA what about Hamas covenant
Yehoshua ,   USA   (06.21.10)
The Day of Judgment will not come about until Moslems fight Jews and kill them. Then, the Jews will hide behind rocks and trees, and the rocks and trees will cry out: 'O Moslem, there is a Jew hiding behind me, come and kill him." (Article 7) Rejection of a negotiated peace settlement: "[Peace] initiatives, and so-called peaceful solutions and international conferences are in contradiction to the principles of the Islamic Resistance Movement... Those conferences are no more than a means to appoint the infidels as arbitrators in the lands of Islam... There is no solution for the Palestinian problem except by Jihad. Initiatives, proposals and international conferences are but a waste of time, an exercise in futility." (Article 13) On the destruction of Israel: "Israel will exist and will continue to exist until Islam will obliterate it, just as it obliterated others before it." (Preamble) There is more.
9. UNRWA needs to be dismantled, absorbed into UNHCR
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (06.21.10)
For the UN and its agents, nothing short of Israel's abject surrender to their every demand (leading to its dismantlement) will ever suffice. That's why it's pointless trying to win their approval. The creation of UNRWA - a "temporary" institution that's already lasted 60+ years - was an error of the highest order. Unlike the UNHCR, tasked with absorbing and settling all the world's refugees with a budget minuscule by comparison, UNRWA is a special institution tasked with perpetuating the condition of the Arabs displaced from Palestine along with their descendants.
10. #4 - don't forget that UNWRA is a money-making operation
William ,   Israel   (06.21.10)
In that, they suck a great deal of global reserves and produce absolutely nothing in return. UNWRA is a big part of why no peace exists yet in the region because in keeping the "refugees" in that status, they secure their relevancy, which in turn secures their need for cash which goes towards nice apartments, new SUVs, and a nicely padded resume for UNWRA workers. In this respect, UNWRA is really no different than Hamas or Hizbullah which create a situation that only they can "answer".
11. to the biggest HOAX in history
joe   (06.21.10)
Yes you the UN. All you have to do is STOP STEALING, and your partners in crime HAMAS to do likewise.
12. #3, Eric - AMEN !
Paul ,   USA   (06.21.10)
13. UNRWA is a palestinian organisation...
Carsten Schmidt ,   Germany   (06.21.10)
...and not a real UN organisation, and as such only satisfied when the weapons can flow freely into Gaza. You want a goof life in Gaza? Then get rid of the terror groups, stop attacking Israeli citizens, and then start building whatever you want...
14. Israel MUST open crossings???
Josh S ,   USA   (06.21.10)
Really?? As I recall, it is the right of any sovereign state to open or close its borders to whatever or whomever they want at will. Israel should immediately close all its borders with Gaza and expel and UNWRA from the country. It should then lift the sea blockade which is doing absolutely nothing for Israel's security. (If you don't think Hamas already has all the weapons it needs, I have a bridge I want to sell you.) If the UN wants to continue caring for these welfare queens in Gaza, they can do it by sea or through Egypt. The peace activists are more than welcome to send as many boats as they want. Unfortunately, they are going to find that feeding and clothing 1.5 million people who would rather wage jihad than work is a lot harder than it looks.
15. ONLY Intl observed projects will be allowed
William ,   Israel   (06.21.10)
It may take longer but only Intl boots on the ground (not UNWRA) and Israeli oversight of building projects will allow for the importation of needed construction materials to ensure that families in need will receive them, and not Hamas and its cronies. Gunness is close enough to the situation in Gaza that he knows (but ignores) that Hamas controls everything, including electricity when they want to show a "blackout" to the news media. It was Gunness who vehemently denied Hamas stole UN ambulances even after Hamas publicly admitted to it. Gunness should stop this charade and work to help the people of Gaza and not Hamas. He knows what's at stake here.
16. When Hamas signs peace pact UN will have case. Not until!!!
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (06.21.10)
17. Christopher Gunness shows again why UNWRA is useless
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.21.10)
Christopher Gunness is yet another foreigner earning a bloated UN salary at the expense of Middle East peace. The entire UNWRA concept is to perpetuate itself, not to bring the two-nation solution to the conflict. Once there is peace, there is obviously no need for UNWRA - and thousands of people suddenly become redundant. Either that, or they'll have to go crawling to Fatah or Hamas power lords to keep their jobs or get them transferred to the PA. As well, all those hundreds (thousands?) of foreigners who make a living off of UNWRA will have to leave and find new jobs. Of course Christopher Gunness wants the borders totally open so that Hamas can get more arms - it means the conflict continues and he keeps his job.
18. Why not enough??
Mark ,   New York - USA   (06.22.10)
Whatever Israel does it's never enough. If Israel completely lifted the blockade and escorted Iranian weapons ships into Hamas's harbor it also wouldn't be enough. And they wonder why Israel is so distrustful of the International Community. Israel is dammed if it does, dammed if it doesn't!
19. IT'S NOT ENOUGH!
VICTIMSofARAB TERROR ,   JERUSALEM, ISRAEL   (06.21.10)
WHY SHOULDN'T ISRAEL'S ARAB ENEMIES...AS WELL AS THE HYPOCRITICAL U.N. AND TONY BLAIR...PRESSURE ISRAEL FOR MORE DANGEROUS CONCESSIONS... WHEN ISRAEL'S OBTUSE AND SPINELESS PRIME MINISTER NETANYAHU KEEPS CAPITULATING TO THEIR DEMANDS..OBLIVIOUS TO THE FACT THAT IT WILL NEVER 'BE ENOUGH' UNTIL G-D FORBID ISRAEL DISAPPEARS!
20. Dear Palestinians
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (06.22.10)
If you do not attack Israel, you do not have to rebuild Gaza. It is as simple as this.
21. I know that you Know
Avishai ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.22.10)
Christopher Gunness, I know that you Know what will happen if the blockade is lifted. I know that you know that Hamas will immediately be armed with weapons that can reach Tel Aviv and beyond. I know that you know that Hamas will use them. I know that you know that rockets would be reigning down on Tel Aviv, where I live. I know that you know that Hamas really wants to murder me. So I only have one choice. I have is to believe that you want this as much as Hamas does.
22. "We need full unfettered access through all the crossings"
Truth Hertz ,   UK   (06.22.10)
Of course you do Gunness. So that you can bring in all those 'bags of UN sugar' to make rockets and suicide vests and you no doubt want full access to major civilian population centres in Israel so that your freshly equiped suicide 'operatives' can murder Jews. And, it is no use arguing that that is not the consequnce that you intend by trying to get "full unfettered access" because that would be the actual consequnce and you would be held accountable for it (but not by the UN of course).
23. UN is a Joke and Terror enabler
Texus ,   Texas US   (06.22.10)
Libya, under fire for years from human rights activists, was overwhelmingly elected to chair the top United Nations rights body.
24.  Paqid - I agree
Psalms83 ,   Selah   (06.22.10)
16. When Hamas signs peace pact UN will have case. Not until!!! must mean true peace -not hudna !
25. Gunness knows where Schalit is. Check in the
Topsy Turvy ,   US   (06.22.10)
dungeon under his main warehouse. He is Hamas' most valued co-conspirator in the Gaza.
26. UNRWA - Direct UN Aid to Israel
Mark of Lewiston ,   Lewiston USA   (06.22.10)
UNRWA is and has been direct UN aid to finance the Israeli occupation of Palestinians since its inception. Every cost borne by UNRWA is one that Israeli taxpayers would be responsible for under the laws of armed conflict. Of course, Israel's government's position is that all treaties and international obligations it has joined contain and "except Israel" clause under 'obligations.' All written in ink only Israeli right wingers can read.
27. Here's a news flash
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.10)
Since Hamas is responsible for the destruction of Gaza, Hamas is responsible for rebuilding it. You are not going to get building supplies via Israel. We are not interested in shoring up your smuggling tunnels. Hamas has as much regard for the plight of the Palestinian people as I do for the ebola virus. Which is to say -- absolutely none. Get with the program, U.N. -- or get lost. Either works for me.
28. Oh, who cares?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.22.10)
Are you SERIOUSLY asking Israel to "rebuild" that which Hamas has destroyed? Are you SERIOUSLY asking Israel to "rebuild" that which is intended to destroy Israel? Oh, you must be on drugs. Get a grip. Hey! Been to the Congo lately? How about Sudan? How about Somalia? How about Myanmar? How about North Korea? How about Indonesia? How about South Waziristan? How about the Ivory Coast? How about Liberia? Get a grip. The United Nations is so full of sh*t, it's pouring out of their hip boots and ears. Fraudulent organization with an absolute scurrilous agenda to push. Push it up your @__hole$.
29. REUTERS should be writing for Hollywood
TheoVanGogh ,   Texas, US   (06.22.10)
I'm sorry , but reuters cemented the reputation for anti Israel bias when they cropped the flotilla photos of IDF being attacked by knife wielding IHH goon squad, not to mention doctoring photos during lebanon II with same anti Israel bias. You really need to put an asterix next print or image presented by reuters.
30. The removal of the Hamas regime.
Ron B. ,   Lod   (06.22.10)
What should happen is that the international community cooperates in the removal of the Hamas regime. It is an illegal government, brought to power by an unprovoked war against the Palestinian Authority (PA) which was the internationally recognized regime in the Gaza Strip. Hamas may have won the elections but it then seized total power, suspended representative government, and destroyed the opposition. There is no moral reason to the existence of Hamas as explained at : http://xrl.us/beczop
