1. Jail the lot of them
Avi ,   Israel   (06.22.10)
The charideem think they are above the law and we now see on a daily basis they are rioting for what ever reason. Why because they know they can get away with it , with this spinless goverment. Its time to wake up and jail these trouble makers where im assured they will have plenty of time to pray and will be served 3 kosher meals aday
2. Are we nuts?
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.22.10)
Sure looks like it. I mean, we're surrounded by enemies (not counting the ones inside our border), literally thousands of missiles pointed in our direction, the UN is out to delegitimize us as a country, our main semi-ally is led by an administration that is hostile to our interests, Iran is well on it's way to nuclear weapons, Turkey has joined an alliance against us, anti-Semitism is rife all over Europe - And what are we doing? Making a big issue (phoney at that) about Haredi schools. The facts are clear, this is not about Sephardi or Ashkenazi, the legal proceedings were financed by the New Israel Fund (what does that tell you?), & the Court is composed of Left-wing anti-religious ideologues. The media is as usual totally irresponsible. This is insane.
3. he is no saint. A father who does not work but expects
JO   (06.22.10)
the state to give to him while he is free to disobey the law and live in his own version of reality. The Israel public is getting tired of this. Does not the Torah teach that if you do not work you do not eat? Where is the pride of the old Haredim, those of the past who knew mathmatics, literature and Torah, who while not living like the world knew the world and showed by example, an example that the secular public could look to as an example to their children , religious men of valor. Not today.
4. We are the foolish ones!!!
Jay A Friedman ,   Raanana ISRAEL   (06.22.10)
We provide them cash allowances, we subsidize their schools, we allocate to them municipal services. Our boys and girls protect them. And then they spit in our faces and blatantly inform us -- without shame -- that they are exempt from observing the laws of the State of Israel!!!! And we continue to provide cash and services and subsidies and protection. We are truly the foolosh ones!!!!
5. "not at such a high level of crime" - what is he on?
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & New York   (06.22.10)
He is supposed to be in jail on a charge of contempt of court that is plenty high enough to get jail time. If he needed to be with his kid while he recovers he should have said so before failing to show up at the agreed upon time.
6. Get the facts right pls
Shalom Hartman   (06.22.10)
"we won't agree to unite the (Ashkenazi and Sephardic) classes." She did NOT say ashkenazi and sephardic, so why is YNet adding it in???
7. Quote
Sagi   (06.22.10)
"an atmosphere of persecution against an entire public". That is correct. The entire secular population of Israel, approximately six million is being terrorised and held ransom and blackmailed by the Haredim and ultra orthodox who comprise approximately 10% of the population. This must stop. Hopefully by Government intervention but if not it will be stopped by other means. Sanity always prevails.
8. High Court Wall - Wailing Wall ?
Sara   (06.22.10)
9. "won't mix Ashkenazic and Sephardic 'classes'"??
iObserver and News ,   USA   (06.22.10)
The Prejudice is clear: the woman divided the two cultures into 'classes': a MAJOR slip up: there is clear prejudice, which is beyond disgusting. Even here in the US, the Ashkenazim treat the Sephardic like garbage, calling them 'shfartzas' etc. Some Sephardim go Chabad and even hide their heritage and learn to dispise them too. Its absurd. The Sephardim have preserved the traditions with greater superiority and purity; meanwhile, the Ashkenazim have less than 1% blood 'purity', revealing a massive amount of intermarriage with gentiles. Perhaps, they feel inadequate??? Its just ugly: aggressive, abusive, irreligious and against the Torah, period. These are NOT children of Aaron: 'Loving Peace' and cherishing each other. They're like children of Esav. Put 'em in Jail and let 'em rot with their horrible prejudice...they're not real Jews.
10. Their problem is listening to their rabbis
Scott ,   Haifa   (06.22.10)
The stuff that is causing all of this strife and division is over school girl dresses regarding one button at the top and the length of their socks. This is the big issue between Ashkenazi and Sephardic... "In any case, we won't agree to unite the (Ashkenazi and Sephardic) classes." Help. We need a National Day of Prayer in this country.
11. #2 You are so right,Terry.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (06.22.10)
12. It's not a Askanazi and Sphardic issue
(06.22.10)
13. Amazing
BenJ ,   Israel   (06.22.10)
Who can claim being religious and at the same time neglect the major learning of the Torah which is to LOVE his brother as himself? Did these “jewish” people recall the main cause of the destruction of our second holy temple?
14.  If something is injust about this comunity...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (06.22.10)
...things should be done to correct it in a clean way and not through methods like this one being invented. I believe that ,according to our religion, only Levites should have the privileges that this religious community has had.But as we don't know yet who are Levites and who are not, nobody should get anything different and all Jews of Israel should be treated the same way. This is my opinion. But,on the other hand, this community is doing a big favor to all Jews, because they have many children and without it Israel would not survive. But Terry is very right. Not that the problem should not be dealt with, but we have priorities, exactly the ones Terry pointed out.And acting like bullies toward our owns only shows a shallow and ugly behavior from those frustraded about their own failures toward the real enemies. We don’t see these bullies bullying enemies with such a “courage”.
15. #7 Surely it is you Sagi that is in need of sanity
Christian ,   Sweden   (06.22.10)
and surely you must understand that Israel is not sustainable as a Jewish state without a working agreement with the Haredim. Today they are 10% of the population, but tomorrow they will be 20%. You should think American and not European. Give the Haredim educational freedom, but also the duty to provide for themselves by work that is less social wellfare and more work. When it comes to the laws of the state, the position of the Haredim is the same as of conservative Christians. By the will of God there should be courts and laws in a society and the citizens are obliged to obey the laws as long as they don't demand something that is sin. In that case you must obey God more than humans. It is in our "Talmud", the New Testament, Confessio Augustana etc. How strange it may seem to you, it is the normal way of thinking in many religious communities. But in the fact you seculars think in a similar way when you say that human rights are above the laws of the knesset. Only that you have placed the Supreme Court in the place of God and the rabbis. Anyhow I think there is something sane to be said of having God (Supreme being) and rabbis before a leftwing, secular, Supreme court.
16. religious integrism=Ahmadinejad
athos ,   nice france   (06.22.10)
The fathers of Israel: Erzl , Ben Gourion wanted a stated rules by law and democracy not jewish islamists estremists. If the haredim and other chauvisnist extremists dont like or not obey the laws of the country, they can go elsewhere and create another country - Iranian like. Enough with religious integrism:they are the friends of Ahmadenijad and reason like him.
17. You seem to be intelligent
to #2   (06.22.10)
Ever heard of Wag the Dog? All this offensive nonsense is being kept as front page news/rubbish precisely for the reasons you mentioned including the huge terrible price we are about to pay for the release of Gilad, who, weknow, must be released. So, you have to accept the Goon Show, my friend. When this silly nonsense dies down, they'll find another. Just wait, and watch
18. Emmanuel
Nili   (06.22.10)
People are so caught up with hatred of the haredi world they don't even care about the facts. Look who is funding the case--this is a political thing. All over Europe and America you are bowing down to islam and you have the nerve to interfere with Israel. As for Israelis, if we continue to let the left divide and degrade our society, then we will no longer have a country. Emmanuel is just a red herring for the real goal of the political left-tards.
19. # 2
Birdi ,   Israel   (06.22.10)
Terry can you please tell me where do you get your information that the legal proceedings are financed by the New Israel Fund ?
20. People who invoke the law of "God"
Sagi   (06.22.10)
are very dangerous, both to themselves, and to society at large.
21. Gotta luv this gem: "the rabbis are above the law"
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (06.22.10)
Here, in a single clause of this woman's quote, is the problem in a nutshell. No, Gveret, nobody is above the law. If you want my tax money to fund your schools, then you have to let all citizens who qualify for your school to go whether you like it or not. The rabbis don't make the laws, the country does. Don't like it? Too bad. The blatant sinat hinam of these people is only exceeded by the racism of the rabbis involved. No, they are law breakers just like you. Want your kids in a vus-vus only school with standards that you set? Then get your own money, start your own school, and set your own rules (but bear in mind you have to have the curriculum minimums as declared by the Jews who are elected and appointed to run this country. Gevalt.
22. Of course there's a reason for the arrest of the 22 mothers
(06.22.10)
THEY ARE CHAREIDIM which means that they are worse than terrorists according to the self-appointed evil judges in the communist court of Israel.
23. What a Meshugene Court and they call themselves High Court
(06.22.10)
of Justice when they’re known as High Court of InJustice run by the Mafia of Bolshevik Judges in the Communist country of Israel.
24. murder
(06.22.10)
Everyone understands that pregnant women are in a delicate medical situation. Today, one of the women who was sentenced to imprisonment without trial miscarried. Her baby is know dead.
25. The High Court guilty of murder!
(06.22.10)
26. #19 Birdi Answer to your question.
Terry ,   Eilat - Israel   (06.22.10)
Try Zionist Conspiracy Bogsite. There's a whole series of articles on this stupidity, you might have to look in the archives. I think the article was called ''Mexican Stand-Off'' ....
27. They only want the best for their children
Mark ,   Jerusalem   (06.22.10)
Of course a mother should go to prison for committing a crime but I would like to know what crime was committed for them to go to prison. Like so many people I got the facts wrong and thought this was a racist thing and was on the side of the courts but then I find out that it is not racist because we are talking about Ashkenazi and Sephardic families who are both worried about their schooling for their children and only want them to be learning in the right environment which is not segregating Ashkenazi and Sephardic but are wanting an environment where the families in the schools are ones that observe a full Torah lifestyle and that is one with no Television, no Internet, no Newspapers , keeping Shabbat and covering the hair. I can understand it if these people are against a child entering the school who's family does not obey to these rules. We did not send our children to such schools because we new we can not throw our television out of the window or our Internet, newspapers, we do observe Shabbat and my wife covers her hair, so we did not sign on the dotted line like so may do who are prepared to lie instead our children went to religious schools that does not insist on these things and my children still came out with good grades most probably better as they can add up as well and know there history and geography as well as Tanach, Gemora, and other Jewish subjects. I feel the courts have come on to strong with this case and they should call a spade a spade and let these families sit down and talk about their children's future
28. *not* above the law
nikki ,   raanana   (06.22.10)
actually, where there is a question, halacha itself states that the law of the land is what takes precedence.
29. this is not journalism but an attack ad
izzy d   (06.22.10)
